And again, we will talk about the famous plumber that everyone of us knows and loves, who's name is Mario. This game is called "Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga", and like the title already says, Mario doesn't have to do this journey on his own. No. Mario's younger twin brother, Luigi (also mistakenly known as the "green Mario" ) is accompanying him and is also one of the main characters in the story of this game. But what is this game about? Is this game like the other Mario games which we know and love? Do you also have to jump on Koopas and save the princess? These questions will be answered during this review.
Let us take a look at the graphics first, as always. If you compare the graphics of this game to different Mario games, you will notice that the graphics here are as magnificent as the graphics of other Mario games. A lot of details, a lovely design, a lot of variations between the characters, areas, enemies etc., so I will give 10 points out of 10 for the graphics, because Mario games are known for it's great graphics and designs.
Now we will talk about the sound. Also the sound is magnificent. The sound effects for every action fits well, there are a lot of tracks for a lot of areas and battles, everything sounds pleasant to your ears. And like the other Mario games (especially the newer ones), we have some great voice acting, especially by Charles Martinet, known as being the voice of Mario and Luigi. His Italian gibberish really makes Mario and Luigi sound like they really speak Italian, so it lighten ups the situation and makes it more enjoyable to play, therefore I will also give 10 points of 10, great job.
And how addictive is this game? Well you can already imagine what I am going to say, if you read my review for the game "Mario Vs. Donkey Kong": it's super addictive. Mario will always be the king of addictiveness. You just can't get enough of the pleasant atmosphere while playing this game. I also will give 10 points out of 10 for the addictiveness.
But what about the story? Is it the same compared to the other Mario games? No! The story is quiet different this time. The plot of this game is that one day, the mushroom kingdom is awaiting some visitors. During the audience, these visitors turn out to be some evil people called Cackletta and Fawful who are stealing the voice of Princess Peach. The mushroom kingdom orders Mario to find Cackletta and her evil minion Fawful and get the voice of his beloved princess back. Mario's brother, Luigi, is also forced to do so, although he wants to stay at home and do less dangerous things. The story will also contain some amusing plot twists. The only thing that I miss is that there isn't a real message... but still, the story can amuse somebody, so therefore, I will give 7 points out of 10.
What does this game offer to the player? Well... this game isn't the usual Jump 'n Run game that we know. This game is combining the Jump 'n Run elements of the Mario games we know with RPG elements, like the round based battle system, equipment, items etc. The round based battle system is pretty interesting in this game, there are different ways how to attack your enemy, and if you press any button at the right time, then you make some extra damage for example. Besides that, you need for every enemy a different strategy to defeat them. And also this game contains a lot of mini games, so I will give 9 points out of 10, therefore that it offers more than one could expect.
The difficulty of the game lies mostly within the battle system. If someone is good at timing, then he/she will have no problems while dodging attacks of the enemies or hurting them. If not... good luck, you will need it.
The scores:
Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 10/10
Addictiveness: 10/10
Story: 7/10
Depth: 9/10
Overall: 46/50
9,2/10
This game is no exception for the fact that Mario games will always belong to the most addictive games in the history of games. "Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga" unites Mario addicts and RPG fanatics because of the combination of the RPG elements along with the Mario trademarks. I recommend you to try out this game if you love Mario or RPGs, it's worth it and you can also experience some new things then. Another success made by Nintendo.
