I have no idea what is happening.

I bought minecraft, and I went to the download pages and downloaded Minecraft.msi and minecraft_server.1.8.1.exe. Then I ran them both. On them, I get a Java Virtual Machine error, and i have no idea what that is and idk.

What do I do? I can't play the dang game.
