I was thinking about trying to make an LP...but I'm not sure how I should go about it. I have a recording setup that's actually relatively decent, but are there any tips for LPing that you know of that go beyond the equipment? I've already had issues with Content ID flagging my vids when I tried to upload a few videos of Metal Gear Solid 2...Is there any way that I can easily get around that?

And what do you consider makes a good LP good or a bad LP bad?

What makes a good LP, is if you are fun and talk about the game, be funny and be exciting, that's what I like. I hate pewdiepie and markiplier, so yeah.

An LP can be good if you do a lot of commentary, you make a non-corny joke once in a while, and you share some interesting facts about the game.

I think it's all about the person behind the mic, if they are funny, upbeat, but not fake, be yourself, but have fun. I myself do let's play, I don't think they are very good, but there are people that enjoy mine. So that is always nice, but I like to just talk about goofy stuff, I can get crude at times, and stupid jokes, and a little yelling, but not overboard screaming like PewDiePie or anyone like that.

I think in general to shorten it up, have fun, be yourself.

First of all, DO NOT TRY TO GET AROUND CONTENT ID. Your account will be banned and you'll never get anywhere that way. Content ID flagging doesn't mean anything bad, it just means that YouTube recognized some copyrighted material in your video, and by accepting the flag, you allow YouTube to pay the people who own those copyrights. Trying to get around it will at best get your content taken down, and at worst get you banned. Just let it happen.

I am a bit confused, though. Usually let's plays don't get flagged. Did you use any music in your video? Are there popular songs in that game? If so, you'll have to use different music or a different game, because the music industry is pretty hardcore about keeping you from using anything.

As to what makes a good let's play... It's the host. It's all the host. If people like you, they'll like your videos.

Lazlo Falconi : Well, I uploaded four vids of a Metal Gear Solid LP, and three of them were flagged for copyright because of cutscenes. It's annoying because I wanted to turn off ads and keep them off on my channel, since that's an option, but Content ID forces ads on your vids whether you want them or not. There's the whole thing about how it prevents YT Partners from making money off of their vids, but they technically shouldn't be able to make money off of playing games for a living.

Think about Mystery Science Theater 3000 for a second. Their whole thing is providing commentary over movies. Do you know why they always chose old movies? Mainly because the rights to use those movies were cheap. They knew that trying to claim "fair use" or "transformative work" would never pass, especially since they talked over the entire movie and made money off of it. It's a similar thing for Let's Players. And as far as I can tell, Let's Plays are typically better when the people making them aren't making them just to get paid.

Okay, sorry if that was a little bit off-topic, but I just wanted to answer his inquiry about why my vid got flagged. I got a little carried away with my own opinions. And thank you for some of the tips that you've posted here. I might make a test vid sometime soon and post it in this thread so you can see exactly what I have going.
