I finished the story of Omega Ruby in pokemon recently and I have access to the battle resort. In the battle resort there's a battle maison, but no battle frontier, although there's apparently plans to build it (see the newest game theory about alternate dimensions(dammit mat, not giving me a chance to do any theories myself stealing all the glory for yourself...)). However, when I was looking through music from the game (Wally's 30 second loop, champion theme, Zinnia theme, etc.) I noticed there was a track for the Frontier Brain. I actually checked if there was some form of battle frontier in the game later on, but there isn't. I did, however, see this interview with pokemon director Junichi Masuda on many questions about the game concerning DLC, influence behind certain changes, and why there was no battle frontier.

Q : Why wasn't the Battle Frontier in the remakes?
A:This question is connected with my previous answer. We didn't put the BF in ORAS for this very reason. Interviewer's note: In short he means that they didn't include the BF because only a very small part of the players would have fully appreciated and made use of this feature; nowadays players get bored and frustrated more easily and they aren't interested in things that are so demanding/challenging.

Yep, reading the comments should be fun...

"The Maison isn't that accessible to non-casual players. You need an EV trained, well-bred team to do well in any of the super divisions and I'm sure players willing to train their mons up to begin with would have appreciated being able to challenge those other facilities. Plus, it's post game, so it's not like the added challenge would have driven anyone else away."

"Battle frontier : so many things that you can cycle through them and never get bored.
Battle maison: throws DS at the wall"

"That's just insulting, Jesus Christ. The Battle Frontier was amazing, way ahead of any sort of other post-game we've had since. Actually challenge in video games is apparently frowned upon in today's design philosophy."

AND SO MUCH MORE!

Ladies and gentlemen... dalard do we want!?!?

I understand biases. There are no two people with the exact same opinions on everything ever. However, this is a prime example of confusion. I never heard anyone say how they don't like the battle frontier but like the battle maison. I mean, I'm sure some people do prefer it, but the fact remains. This opinion was never expressed before, yet when Masuda gives this reason for something, so many people protest that fact. Honestly it can be a brain teaser, if this was Masuda's intention does that mean someone suggested him to scrap the frontier yet no one suggested to keep it? Honestly seeing it's a remake of RSE everyone probably assumed the return of the frontier was nigh.

I have seen so many groups in my days. Generic pokemon fans, or those who only like gen 1. Retro gamers who live for relentless challenge, and casual gamers who rather have a roller coaster ride with no bumps. Hl3, Hl2 ep.3. Old Sonic, Sonic after Old Sonic. People who want new things, people who relentlessly bash new things. People who like rpg, fps, 2d side scroller, 3d adventure, fighting, racing, sims, SANDBOX, HORROR, PUZZLE, FLAPPY, MUSIC, STORY, GAMEPLAY, GRAPHICS, DESIGN SWEET MOTHER OF THE HINDU CHRISTMAS MANORA!!!

Nowadays, even with a general fanbias, it feels as if no matter what decision a game designer makes it's always wrong. So for the sake of world peace... how CAN we have the "glory days" of games again? The answer? Make EVERYTHING.

This is my message to all video game companies who want to be the very best like no one ever will be. Do as many different subjects as you can. If half of your fans like one thing while the other half like another, make one game for each group. Don't let the criticism get to you, just know that there are plenty of people who like a game you made and you can make plenty of games the others will want. Listen to the fans, even if they as a unison are never right, know these guys over here are right with this, those over there are right with that, and let's wait for the next group who want whatever this is.

So yeah... what do you want to see in your ideal game? Maybe there's already a game made following that description that you don't even know about, or one coming out next year.

See, personally, this is why I stopped playing Pokémon. But not just Pokémon, there are plenty of other games that I sit here and look at that just make me think why would I even want to play it. The natural idea and formula of Pokémon has gotten to the point where they're trying everything to get people on board, which is normal because that's what consumer-based companies are made to do. But the problem is in adding new, they forget the old. As the games progress many of us that played the classics don't like we have to go with some of the gimmicks that are now in games or listening to people go on about some sort of specific way that's made to play a game which is just stupid in itself. A person should be able to play their game how they want, they bought the copy, not anyone else.

But that aside, where you state that developers need to "make everything", sad to say that would be an awful and painful idea to some gaming companies because sometimes too much can actually harm a game. I will personally say Skyrim is okay but they added so much busy work in between the main stuff that its literally just dull. There are some really great mechanics but even legendary titles as such has its flaws that sadly can make someone sigh. Or even the latest Final Fantasy 13. The story seemed to be pretty good but the way it played, for me, was just awful. Awful to the point where I could only go so far and eventually just grew tired of playing it and haven't picked it up since.

I will personally say I'm not much of the "casual" gaming crowd since ive been playing the difficult yet simple based games from the 80's such as Mega Man and Zelda and so on for the Nintendo. I've always looked for challenge in a game but something that also looks and feels..Good. And what is that I mean by "good"? Well I mean controls, the backgrounds and colors, what kind of plot there is or simply the amazing satisfaction of completion through the challenge of a game. One of the best games I ever played that drove me to really try but punished me is the original Castlevania on the NES. Its stuff like that, so simple, so fun, that could be so fun.

Now to take a different step so I'm not sounding like a hypocrite, my ways have changed a lot especially with the community of gaming and how games themselves have evolved through the years. What I look for these days in gaming is mostly how does the story hold up. I won't lie I've searched a lot and have found many games that are "cult-classics" or ones that are hidden gems because the majority wasn't pleased with it. There are many games where sometimes the controls can suck and such but the plot that goes along with it is too wonderful to pass up. Sometimes its nice to step out of the norm with one's gaming habits and try something different that might interest which can sometimes lead you to expanding your taste in games and how you look at them.

Now granted this game I'm about to use as an example, and for good reason, has already been created once before and then was recently just redone graphics and control-wise with a few changes here and there. Resident Evil HD for Xbox 360/PS3. Now this is a port of the original version that was made all the way back in 2002. Now why would I bring up such an ancient game? Well take a look at recent sales and ratings of the last couple R.E. games. They've been kinda poor since Capcom shifted focus more to an action-based front as far as the gameplay went along with the plot. Don't get me wrong I've bought and played them. I had some fun. But it didn't fill that feeling of satisfaction or what I expected out of the title. With the release of this HD version of the 1st game on current consoles I've had the chance to step backwards and enjoy a old game all over again with some new polish and changes.

Let me tell you, I'm having the hardest time trying to take a break from it sometimes. There are some games out there that are simply perfect and they nailed it pretty good the first time. Looking at this game it makes me wonder why Resident Evil took the path it did. But its always comes down to trying to get new people to buy products and appeal to new masses in hopes the newer people to the fanbase will jump in full-throttle as many games so to jump for action or simply made for casual for those who don't wish to put a lot at stake for progress.

For me alone I would like some more original games that can go above and beyond with their stories and maybe some that are able to introduce some new interesting mechanics but still giving players the will, motivation, and feeling of accomplishment as they go through a game. Games are to be fun and thrilling, not tasks. Competition is greatly encouraged but when it feels like a chore just to beat another person you're no longer playing a game.

As for a game im looking forward to, hopefully in the coming spring the new game and possible series, Mighty No. 9, will be out to play. I'm very excited for this game seeing as how it is being developed by the creative mind behind the Mega Man X series and the very man who had his hand in the original 80's Mega Man games, Keiji Inafune. He is taking a game back to old-school platforming but adding whole new twists to things, a brand new story, and so on. Its a game that fans of the old Mega Man games are going to love and they very people who helped back the game up to get it into development. I'm happy to say I think it will be one of the best games to come out and be introduced to the new year of 2015.
