Ok I know we all had our favorite subjects and those that we just couldn't stand in school. Lets just say some odd reason you were given the ability to add a subject you like to the school classes. To be taught same as the rest of the school classes. Well you're on the spot . What class would you pick to put in and why ? |

Brain-Splattered : If I could teach, it would be English. Why? Let's find out! I would teach English to my students because I find this language easy to learn, and I can help them with their Vocab and Grammar mainly. I'll help them especially on their Grammar, so they can improve it, and they can speak English good. I'll teach English Class obviously. |

Well me personally I would add something like a creative writing class or a class on animation. I would add those because I have a strong like for them and so do a lot of kids now-a-days. Not to mention it breaks up the monotony of the same classes year after year. It also lets them channel their creativity which will in turn help them somewhat in other classes as well. I mean I know it would have helped me in school because then my mind would have been stimulated and it'd be easier to do other classes. |

I would definitely add a new subject, let's call it, Cyber Civilization. So, it's basically how to be on the Internet and what not. It's not Cyber Safety, that's a subject that I would never teach. Basically, I teach all the memes on the Internet. I show my students some cool websites, and yeah. I might have a 5 minute lecture on cyber safety. But, yeah, that's what I would teach. |

Normally, I'd pick character education, but my school, I am proud to say, already has that ![]() I think I would add... hm... I don't know ![]() ![]() Aha! Coding class! I would add coding class! It's tough to think of an actual topic to center an entire class on that isn't already taught, but maybe it would be cool to have a project-based class. So if the kids wanted to make a certain project-say, a torpedo, it could entail several subjects. We could decide on what to use as a propellant...probably something like gun powder, ammonal, whatever. Work out the chemistry in class, show what reactions would be needed to make the compound and the reaction taking place when it's oxidized (burned.) Look at topics like enthalpy and potential energy in a system and judge what kind of thrust we'll need. That's where we would also have to consider physics. We need to decide how far the target should be, what force will be needed to destroy it (a little materials science there) what the water resistance will be, stabilizing "flight" path etc. Essentially, we would have to use math in application to a task. So, judging from the potential energy of the chemical reaction within a closed system in the fuselage of a measurable mass and volume, we could calculate the velocity of the torpedo. If we measured the velocity over a period of time, we could plot the acceleration. These two give us two variables of Newton's Second Law F=ma. Now we could determine the force delivered to the target by the projectile. Water also has a density and mass, so resistance and even friction coefficients would have to be considered and accounted for if we didn't want to have to build numerous torpedoes and waste materials in trial and error. Also, any research project wouldn't be complete without analysis and a report. Here is where technical writing and intended audience will make an appearance for a little bit of English incorporated into the class. There's no way anyone would be able to conduct a class experiment like this, but it would be fun. It takes something that students would choose and be interested in, and walks them through what is entailed in accomplishing the chosen task. For many things, they'll see why all of the subjects in school are important and relate to each other-especially math and sciences. I mean, the kids could just as easily choose to make a quad copter drone, and so long as we could afford the materials, we could cover some basic circuitry, calculate thrust created by the motors, subtract the weight of the drone itself and start assessing what type of load our drone would be capable of lifting. So my answer in short...Independent Study Applied Research Project. I think it would be the most fun for the teachers and students, and also get the students more interested in learning subject matter a lot of students find boring or too difficult. Seeing some cool ideas so far. A couple for sure I wish were available in school when I was still going back in the day. Gotta agree Kefka that would have been a very interesting class. |

I would probably add a class having to do with computers, something like the Endless World of computers, the class curriculum would consist of teaching the students the basics (or advanced if they wish to learn that) of computers all around, while some classes teach you nowadays to type or to code or the basics of computer hardware I would make this class a combination of all, it would teach students from building a computer (including the different parts), to taking advantage of the features provided by well Windows since that would probably be the standard OS unless they wish to learn about the Mac interface, I would teach them different ways to switch the different formats of files because many of the people that I know do not know about changing formats for example a *.png file to a *.jpg/jpeg file. The class would make sure that by the end of the year the students would be able to go a computer without being a stranger to it. Rather than just knowing how to use the browser they would learn to use the OS efficiently. I think it would really help at least in a world where computers are becoming more numerous in the different aspects of life. Now we see them while learning in college, high school, middle school and even elementary school. I think the more people we can adapt to the usage of computers the more people will be prepared to use that tool to their advantage. |
