As most of you probably know, the vast majority of developed nations have restrictions or bans on organized gambling. There are many arguments both for and against legal gambling. Places such as Las Vegas, Nevada have become major tourist attractions because of legalized gambling. Other places have not seen as much success. What do you think? Should gambling be legal or illegal?

Legally, I don't know how I feel about gambling.  I mean, I'm personally against it, but who am I to tell other people what to do with their belongings?  If they want to risk what they own, shouldn't they be able to?

I guess for me.. if we're only talking on a legal standpoint here... I'd have to say it should not be illegal.  That being said, there should definitely be laws in place to keep it equitable and as moral as possible (i.e. to better monitor damage control). I don't know enough about gambling to stipulate what those laws might be, though.

I believe if it is state or government regulated, it is ok. Totally banning it will only lead all that money to the hands of organized crime. I might have myself many vices but gambling is not among them, but I know many people who cant help themselves. And I know if these people would not be allowed to gamble legally, they would illegally. These people will always exist, they need help too but my point is that if there is going to be gambling, it needs to be regulated and if people have gambling problems, they should be able to pay their debts without loosing a kneecap in the process.

I do live in one of the biggest gambling state, and personally, I think Gambling should be legal, the reason I say this, if you're betting money, it's really on you and not on the other people, it's the way the gambler is spending his cash on. Sure, I know there is some people out there that can go overboard and bid like their car, their house, their belongings, and who knows what else they big on.

So, for my 2 cents, I think they should have it legal, because they are the ones spending their moneys, as long it isn't you, you shouldn't have an issues on what others play on. And like you said, Las Vegas wouldn't be Las Vegas without all those casinos. Sure, I know a couple of states in the country won't allow gambling, but more and more states will allow it because they want to give these people a chance to bid their money for more or less.

I don't ever gamble however I do not believe that gambling should be illegal because I believe people have the right to do what they want with their money and it would be wrong to take that away from people.

If you want the mafia to control it, then yes. Otherwise, whatever becomes arbitrarily illegal (drug, prostitution, guns, whatever) does NOT disappear. People are still humans with some needs and desires. If you make something illegal, you just transform ordinary citizens into criminals and overburden the courts. Imagine how many fewer prisoners there would be without the War on Drugs...
