I am convinced that ebay became a place for people to show off their rares with no intention of ever selling them.

Yeah, it's getting nuts. You know, a guy goes to a pawn shop to buy... I don't know, Super Mario Kart, and they want ten bucks. Really? Ten dollars for a game that I don't really need? Then, if you want to go really far, they'll charge you fifteen or twenty. It's crazy! Most of these games you can get other places like emulators. And... Have you checked eBay lately? HOLY CRUD. They're asking for SIXTY BUCKS for some of these games! You can pay less on the virtual console! These guys think that the privilege of a hard copy are worth fifty dollars more than digital?

Yeah, I have seen a whole lot more retro games getting a whole lot more pricey recently, especially with NES, Super Nintendo, and N64 games, because game collectors waht these games in their collection so bad, so that's mostly why the value has been going up more.

This whole thing is exactly why I love the Retro Game Room. Glitches aside, it's better than paying one hundred or so bucks for a game that was mass produced and is nowhere near rare enough to be more expensive than 20 or 30 bucks, let alone 100$.

I started collecting SNES and N64 games again recently - though I am only buying ones I will actually play. I bought some off of eBay, but one thing I have learned about getting games cheap is to buy them from Japan. About half of my SNES titles are Japanese and since a lot of them aren't too text heavy, I am not too worried about not understanding it. If you're willing to experiment and/or use guides you can figure stuff out too.

My most recent Japanese purchase was Seiken Densetsu 3.

xbox360316 : I would say Sega is more reasonable to be highly priced than, say, SNES. This is because Sega went out of business as a console developer a long time ago and most of their best games are in the past. Meanwhile, Ninendo still regularly publishes their SNES titles to new consoles as VC titles.

Its not just retro games, look at Pikmin 3 and Ocarina of Time 3D. They came out in the past year and they are getting to cost a lot more than they did at release (100 for Pikmin 3 omg)
