So this will be my blog as Ludam Dare blog as I attempt to complete this 48 hour game making challenge all by myself. The big rule is that everything you make has to be made by you from scratch and of course it has to be made within the 24 hours.

There is almost 24 hours left till they announce the them and most likely it is going to be...this

Yup a snowman beat last rounds vote by over 650 votes. Just a picture of a snowman :p. Although that does leave it open to more ideas since it vague.

I will be coding strictly in C# this time around. Wish me luck.

So the competition began and everything just went horribly for me. It started off good then went bad and is going on the right track again.

I'm using the unity engine to build my game and started off by doing some basic level design and creating my character controller. Only 10 hours to go and there is no way I will be able to submit it on time as I can't work on it for another 3 hours (because I'm being dragged away to some event) and I have barely slept.

I intended to get 3 hours of sleep but I dozed through my alarm and went an additional 2 hours. I also had to get stuff to eat so I it set be back a lot. In addition to that I no longer had access to a dual monitor which helps me a lot

The game I was going to make was going to be a top down shooter where hordes of evil fruit are trying to kill you. Belive it or not me and my friend got the idea from Fruit Ninja. Just imagine Galaga but more open and isometric. I managed to get the level design complete and the the character rigged and coded. I was unable to finish all the enemies because I spent way too much time trying to get a wave system to work. The enemies would instantly spawn and multiply as soon as the game began. It took me a lot longer than I had originally anticipated.

I still had a few enemies to model. Ironically making a banana walk and giving it limbs is easier than modeling one for me.

Either way I may get the drive to finish this game another time.

Also remember that if you don't complete the game in the next ... 06:20:00, you can still submit your entry in 1 Day, 06:20:00 as a JAM ENTRY. It won't be eligible to be voted on in the COMPO category but that's okay for a first timer.

After the COMPO deadline ends, in theory you could then bring in programming friends to help you complete it for the three day deadline. Sometimes this results in an extremely polished game but for first timers it can allow a bare bones game to actually get submitted. Of course, if you don't make the 2 day deadline, you can't participate in the month long voting process in COMPO or JAM but you can still play all of the other entries like anyone else here can.

FYI- COMPO contestants would still be able to vote on your game for the JAM rankings.

Thought you might like to know about this before that overwhelming feeling to stop designing that you just expressed actually takes over.
