What are your views on how well Obama is doing in his presidency thus far?

Is Obama a good president?

Also, no personal bashing / flaming ok? Just actual debate.

I don't really believe there is any good president. From how I see it the current or past presidents job is to completely screw up our economy and start wars. Then by the end of a 4-8 year term people will be completely sick of them and want someone new, someone who promises change. It's a never ending cycle of screwing the current generation over.

I do think however that Obama winning the election was good for one reason and that is to slap everyone across the face and wake up. Anyone who promises change that is running for office, no matter race or religion, republican or democrat is simply a liar.

I hope we one day can see an independent run for office, because we all know that both republicans and democrats are full of it. It's just really sad people keep falling for the 2 party system I'm saying independent is the better way to go... but I really think there is no hope anymore the whole system is a complete joke Abolish it now.

Obama needs a teleprompter, I think that sums up what kind of president he is. Someone is feeding him the dirt and he is spitting it out for us to chew on.

that pretty much sums it up for me. It's so rare to see him speak without one. You could put just about anyone in front of that podium and the message would be the same. Which is yet another one of your points Jigsaw. Both parties claim to be the saviour to fix all the problems of the previous administration yet they seem to come up with all of their own while fixing few of the old ones.

Obama is trying his best but he is running out of capital when hes dealing with an issue that can't be resolved without it being universal: Health Care.

Usually, not all the time but usually, presidents win a second term when there is either a war or a conflict.

LBJ, FDR, George W. Bush even.

In their first term, presidents focus on the economy and gain political capital. When they start to lose it they start pointing fingers at other countries, and when they start a conflict with us and we go to war then the current president gets all the attention he needs.

George Bush was a sitting duck in office before 9/11. Just hope to yourself that there isn't some big disaster near 2012.

I've heard of some pretty bad presidents, but Obama is easily the most harmful to the country. He is trying to nationalize and tax everything, not to mention how much his administration has spent already. He appears to be quite intelligent, even given the teleprompter thing, which leads me to beleive he and his inner circle are intentionally harming the country. Not to say that even the Republicans have sadly become corrupt.

As for wars, it is unfortunate, but they are sometimes nescessary. The terrorists and everyone helping them need to be swiftly crushed, which should have been done a very long time ago. Wars like the Korean War and the Vietnam War were important as well because we were trying to stop the spread of the totalitarian communist regimes, which at least at the time, were much worse than their democratic counterparts.

The Korean War and Vietnam War were not wars. They were conflicts. Congress never declared war after WW2, which goes to show how much influence the presidential power has over the executive branch, and how much it has increased. And it will keep increasing.

I don't think so, but that is just my opinion. Doesn't mean he is a bad President.

Honestly, I think that Obama is doing the best job he can with what he has been given. It can't be easy to get anything done when Congress is acting like a bunch of five year olds.

And teleprompter... did you ever watch Bush give a speech? Have you ever watched anyone give a speech? Most people use them. I personally have never heard of him being dependent on one, and I would love to see your sources.

so? He's also promised dozens of other things.... and he hasn't really delivered on anything.

The only noteworthy thing I've seen so far are record deficits. And guess what that means.... tax increases! Because you've got to pay for it all somehow, and a public health care system isn't going to fix that problem.

wow that is so true geeogree...i think obama is just a celebrity with political influnence...he isnt a president, he hasnt done anything!! im still wondering how in the world he got the nobel peace prize, don't you actually have to do something that affects the world to even be considerated for it?

but he did do something...

he was the first black president.... he should win every award that is available to be won because of that.

Well, war is never good. I don't like to fight, and by fight, I mean mess people up in the head.

I hope that in 2012 people take the time to reflect back on him as a president and learn that he is nothing more then another deceiving politician who lied his way into office.

This is one of the best things I read people onlt voted him in becasue of his race. They didn't take into account experience and everything else they just listen liked change like how the head cow leads the others in to be butchered that is how it is and now they are paying for it. I'm not saying he's bad, and I respect his position and that he wants to help, but I think he's going about it the wrong way. It seems like the Democrats believe that the ends justifies the means, and since Obama's ends are supposedly helping the country, it seems like there are no means that he won't justify, even if that means putting us even further into debt to the point that taxes are going to become extreme soon enough. Maybe he just needs to step back, stop striving for immediate change, and take a look at what he's doing.

I really really like that. That seems to describe how I feel about the way the democrats act. They seem to be the "noble cause" party right now. As long as in the end it helps someone... it doesn't matter what it costs or who it might hurt in the process.

And the Republicans are almost the opposite. They do what they want now and damned be the results 5 years from now.
