why do we live

we live because to spend our life to be happy and spend our time with our family. and we can do the things you want so we    live. we play and show our talents to other person so we can probably proud of ourselves.we provide and help each other, we do teamwork and give love to each other. we use teamwork to defeat all the enemies. so thats why we live.

We live to do better then everyone that came before us. To make better choices with how we live our lives.

Living is for learning how to problem solve, so  that you know how to get along with people. In this temporal world, there are many wonderful things. As to whether they are important or not, is up to anyone's perspective. You don't live, unless you have the determination to live and behold all that you've acknowledged. Love living, and live with love. For when you have nothing to love, you have nothing to live for. I'm sorry if this seemed like I was ranting, but this is just one way that I view living.

I believe we live to breed and reproduce so that our race may keep on going without so much as a hiccup in our evolution. The human race is the only race on the face of the Earth that breeds all year long. Think about your dog or cat (or whatever pet you have). Do they always have the desire to breed and reproduce? No, they do not. That's the only correct answer. I have several dogs and cats. My female lab goes into heat twice a year. It's only at this point that my male lab feels the need to try to knock her up. Now, sometime my little Cocker Spaniel tries to dry hump her between these two times during the year. Yet, we all get to where we need to show the opposite sex that we are still potent (down there).

It's nature. Nature is why we live. Nature tells us that we need to keep making more little humans to continue our species. There should be no argument whenever you are asked "Why Do We Live?" We live solely to make more humans who carry half of our genes in their bodies.

Please know that survival is a part of the reproduction of ourselves. We can reproduce more than any other creature on the face of the Earth but that does not matter if we cannot survive long enough to reproduce again. We need to adapt to changes in climate and to the social changes which inhabit our world today.

Way back before "Christ", survival was much different than it is today. Imagine not being able to go to the store to purchase a gallon of milk or a slab of meat. Our ancestors did not have this luxury, of course. They were the ones who hunted and gathered to provide for their families. Once they became sufficient and proficient at hunting and gathering they began selling their products to others. If they did not sell them to others, they would have been trading or bartering. They would have had too much meat or berries and fruit to eat on their own so they trade for things that they could use to get through the difficult months of summer or winter.

Eventually, they figured out that they could bury things so far underground and the ground would act as a "food saver" for several months at a time. Guess what they did whenever they had too much animal carcass and could not barter it away. They buried it in the ground and would dig it up whenever they needed to eat. This worked especially well during the winter months. The cold air preserved their food. Once the food was uncovered and ready for consumption, sometime it was moldy. No problem...scrape the mold off and cook it. The age made the meat taste different and made it more tender for their teeth to rip through.

So, why do we live? To eat, breed and continue or legacy on this planet.

We live, we reproduce, we die. I don't think there really is a point to our existence besides the ones we give ourselves.
What did prehistoric people do? Before they knew the meaning of love and learning.

I think Trendkiller and earthwarrior hit it on the spot.

I think you're also asking is why we live our daily lives versus giving up, because there doesn't seem to be any inherent point to it all.

Part of the answer to that seems to lie in biology. As part of nature, we have a natural inclination to survive. Our senses cause us to avoid or resolve painful and stressful situations quickly, and make us try to maximize what makes us feel "good". Biology also endowed us with a fear of death, which helps keep us alive.

While not flawless (an example being smoking), this system generally keeps us living.

In order to maximize happiness long term, we might choose to suppress it at present. There are also group psychology explanations for why we might choose to be altruistic and help others.

-

So at the end of the day, our genes, and our environment around us sculpt us to want to live out our lives, help our families, and act the way we do.

It might seem like a negative way of looking at things, but at the same time it seems to have resulted in us and the creatures around us. I find that beautiful in itself.

earthwarrior : I'm with you on this one.  There's nothing magical to it.  We're here to continue propogating the species.  We don't have fur, or fangs, or talons, or size, or anything that makes us strong without technology.  We just happen to be the premier animal on the planet.

Life, die, defecate, procreate.  That's all there is, folks.
