TheJmsGamer :

Transitioning is a tough thing to do. It sounds like you've got quite a bit of passability at your age, so let me share some insight.

One- Keep doing what you're doing. I know it can be a little overhaul to call everything you do "girly" and to focus on that, but really, th more feminine you are now, the more you will be with practice.

Two- It sounds to me like puberty is coming to wreck what you've got. The same thing happened to me, sadly... But there are things you can do! Depending on  where you live, you can very easily obtain puberty blockers, without your parents having to know. It's difficult, but it usually works, and it most definitely increases your passability in the long run. I caught the tail end of my puberty and blocked it before it could finish, so while I'm not as feminine as i could be, I'm still more feminine than I could have been.

Three- Perhaps you could change your name? "Jamie" sounds nice. But it's up to you.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, and I'll gladly help you.

Xenthou :
Well, for puberty, today I had to change my clothes and go somewhere, but when I had no shirt on I noticed hair on kay arms and little bit on the chest/belly... I already knew I had hair on my legs, but it just annoys me how it is every where... For the first time, I cried because I'm male. So I decided to wear jeans, and it took me 20 minutes to get finished. I still had to do my hair and brush my teeths but my father was mad because it took me 20 minutes just to change clothes...
Later today, I had to go somewhere for my glasses, and 10 minutes before we were gonna go away, someone said to me: ‘You're a beatiful girl eh?’... Of course my father had to ruin the moment. He says I'm male but then the person who thought I was a girl said: ‘Oh. I thought he was a girl, as you have two daughters.’ But my father does not truly know who I am. How do I know he doesn't know who I am? My father immediately saw there was something going on with my sister. I was confused for a month, almost cried again in the car because I'm male (twice... I was holding myself back to not cry.), and he still doesn't see that there was something going on! He thought I was tired! When he asked: ‘Are you tired?’, I replied him yes. But in fact, I was not tired. When I was at the building for glasses, I was trying to not hold a girly pose... I kept looking in the mirror, too, and sometimes I was in an girly pose for just 10 seconds...
But, what are puberty blockers? I've never heard of those...

Also, for my name, I'd love to change my name but however, I would not know to what name. My best friend in real life is named ‘Jaimy’, which sounds a lot like ‘Jamie’. (We rarely talk lately. Last time we spoke was probably in august... I could change it to ‘Jane’, but it sounds kinda weird to me. I think name changing is expensive, though...

But what do you mean with number one on your post? I don't really get it...

And I'm out again. Pizza is ready! I think. :3

Body hair's a pain, but there are ways of getting rid of it. I don't think you can afford to do it the permanent way, with lasers, but that's not the only method. An option I would consider is waxing. Yes, it can be painful... But it gets rid of hair for a long time. Shaving works, but you have to do it pretty frequently. When I was in transition, I waxed nearly every part of my body. Now I look great in anything. :3

Puberty blockers are like reverse hormone supplements. You take them, and it stops the flood of testosterone that comes with puberty, so you can maintain your high pitched voice and smooth skin. It's great for trans girls, I wish I had had earlier access to them... They're pretty easy to get. You should look up the easiest way to get them wherever you are.

And, you don't have to legally change your name. If you start asking everyone to call you Jamie, then that's what they'll call you. It only took a week for everyone to start calling me Callie after I asked them.

STUPID IPOD REMOVING TEXT... I hate it when it does that!! Ugh!
I can't remember everything I said!
Ahem.

I searched up puberty blockers on google to see if theyre in Belgium, and I read on Wikipedia that it is a sort drugs… But I have told myself that I will never take drugs, not smoke cigs and never drink alcohol… I would do anything to not get a deep voice... And to keep my smooth. Skin that to me isn't very smooth as before... But if they are pills, I would not take the risk. Why? I would not be able to breath. Unless it smelts in the mouth, or something like that...

As for waxing, I'd need to know how as I have no idea how to do that… – and never really knew what waxing meant until now... I saw that the more you wax, the slower the hair will grow back. I saw that if you wax for years, one day it will stop growing back. So I'll definitely take that advice, thanks. :3

I will stay as James for awhile, it would be weird to me that I'd have another name and, I am being homeschooled. Next year though, I will go to a private school. I was planning on telling my parents after I'm 15 but... I think earlier would be the best.

Your thread has been the best source so far, I am really thankful for this thread. I appreciate your effort.

Interesting thread. I appreciate being able to find all this info together somewhere other than wikipedia (and closer together in the long run).

There's one thing that bothers me about the terms related to transgender. It's the fact that, in a way, it is sexist. Now hold up, hear me out.
When I hit puberty, or vice versa, I first looked down and saw hair on my chest and such, grabbed a razor and made it disappear. When I was a kid, I loved hot pink. It was my favorite color. I remember this guy in middle school that I kept thinking was cute and stuff....
What would you call me? See, I'm straight and highly masculine, at least I am today. When I was fourteen, everyone told me I was probably repressed gay and at least effeminate if not a trans girl.
When you say guys who wish they didn't have body hair are transgender, aren't you saying that guys are hairy? If you say guys who don't want to be 'muscular' but would rather be pretty are transgender, aren't you saying that guys are muscle heads and not pretty?
It really, really seems to me that the phrase "transgender" puts genders in boxes and says that if you don't fit in those boxes you must fit in one of these others (I.e. trans boy, trans girl, etc.). Guys must be hairy and muscular and girls must be pretty and trans must fit the box of whatever they identify as.
When I first hit puberty, I hated it. I kinda disliked being a guy, even.
Now that I've gotten more used to having an adult male body, I appreciate it. It has its benefits and downsides. I didn't get to pick to be a guy, and I didn't get to pick to be over six foot. If I could have chosen, I would have been a cute girl with straight, auburn hair or something. I mean, gosh, that sounds fun! I could comb my hair... and... comb my hair....

I really like being who I am. I didn't used to. But if you try to put me in a box, I seem to sometimes have a limb dangling, needing to be stuffed in.
And so does everyone I know.

Anyhow, that's my story. And I'm just trying to put another idea on your board, not argue. If you're looking for views on transgender in one spot, Xen's statements are really good examples of the modernist take, while Bomchu's give a good look at some of the conservative views. I hope this post can give the intellectual, confused hipster view its own representation and not start an argument or debate.

Oh, oh, and Xen, just out of curiosity, I ask this question: Does transgender purely refer to what you decide to identify with? I am under the impression it does, but I've never been completely certain.

Thanks for your time and I hope this post is good food for thought and not an insane lot more.

calebjudah :

To answer your question, yes, the term "transgender" only applies to how you identify.

I can appreciate your view, but I think there may have been a misunderstanding. You don't have to be "muscular" or "hairy" to be a guy, you don't have to be "slender" or "pretty" to be a girl. That's part of the thinking that trans people usually try to discourage - as it means that you're grouping gender by visual stereotypes, which defeats the purpose of the whole trans thing to begin with. We want people to accept the likelyhood of a "feminine" guy or a "masculine" girl. A trans woman is a trans woman, no matter how much hair is on their body, no matter how deep their voice is, no matter how stocky their muscular build may be. A trans man is a trans man no matter how curvy they may be, no matter how high their voice is, no matter how defined their body type is. And a nonbinary person is nonbinary no matter what features seem to group them into the binary.

You're not transgender just because you wish you didn't have body hair, or like the colour pink or blue, or any other aesthetic desires akin to that. What makes you trans is if you identify as a gender that's different from the one you were assigned at birth. I know what you mean when you say you don't like being put in boxes. Neither do we. Trans people don't like boxes. We usually try to set fire to them when we can.

Thanks for voicing that opinion! ^o^ Not a lot of people understand the whole "ignore all stereotype" rule with trans people, and it's actually quite hard for some people. Which is okay! It's okay to be confused or frustrated with the whole thing - that's how humans are designed. The gender binary is something we're used to, and having to adapt to something outside of what we're used to can be really hard sometimes. So it's okay to have opinions or mindsets that differ from other people's. As long as two people are left on the planet, there's going to be disagreements. And that's okay. Differences are good, they're something we should celebrate. What's not okay is forcing other people to conform to your way of thinking, or being overly aggressive about it.  Understanding isn't necessary, but for those who want to, there's a lot of unanswered questions sometimes. But hey, that's what I'm here for~

You stated your spiel in a very kind, constructive manner that allowed me to make a few key points. Thank you!

Okay I'm not transgender so maybe I do not have nothing to offer in this conversation. On the other hand I'm a Christian and I feel like I have something to offer.

I have not personally met anybody face to face that is TG. However, I have met some on forums and in my classes (when I was a graduate student) we have talked about TG issues. One thing that I see is that being TG can be rough. Here is why from what I have learned in my classes and maybe some can give me more insight if these things are true. A lot of them feel like they are not accepted by their peers, parents and even Church so a lot of them end up in severe depressed states. Also, younger ones dealing with puberty can be a troubling thing for them. I have also found a lot of them deal with bullying among peers.

It saddens me how people can be cruel. I was also reading how one poster said their family does not support them I'm sorry to hear that.

Now, I will try my hardest to use the correct and desired pronoun. But I'm also Autistic so if I mess up please tell me. I also want to say I offer you all prayers and friendship.

Have a blessed day

Xenthou :
I have alot of questions...
But, I am very confused with something. If I am interested into males and lose interests in females, but I am a trans girl, am I straight or gay? This has always confused me...
Sorry if I am posting too much here... I know I'm supposed to have left yesterday but this questions has confused me since the day I knew about the word...

TheJmsGamer :

Your sexuality is always dependent on your gender identity.

If you're a trans girl who likes boys, you're straight. Because you would be a girl attracted to a boy.
Same goes for any gender, trans or not. A trans girl attracted to girls is a lesbian. A trans boy attracted to boys is gay. Etc, etc.

I have a friend who is bigender male/female and also bisexual. So every relationship they are ever in is both gay and straight at the same time. Funny how that works, isn't it?

If you have any other questions, feel free to reply again. You can also PM me if it's too personal to be posted.

Lots of good stuff in this thread. Kudos to Xenthou.

I'd like to add that people should just be who they are. I personally wouldn't want any of my future kids to be transgender or gay but I am biased because I am straight and happy being straight. But... Gay people are happy too. If they end up being homosexual or have gender identity issues, I will stand by them, I will not want that but I will support them. There are way too many kids out there who suicide just because of this type of issue. Maybe it is because of the family's religion. Maybe they are just full of hate. W/e it is it's a stupid problem. If you are 15 and is afraid to come out then your family has issues NOT YOU. No matter how old you are, just be you, and if someone cannot love you for who you are, there are others who will.

TheJmsGamer : A transsexual is when somebody gets surgery to change their sex. It costs a lot of money, and honestly, I don't think it's a good thing. Also, earlier, you said something to the extent of "It's not my brain that's making me want to do this, it's my heart." And I'm not sure if you were being figurative or you actually believed that, but...You can't think with your heart . And I also noticed that one of the reasons for you wanting to change your gender was because you don't like the things that come with being a boy, such as hairy legs and scratchy voices during puberty. I hate to break it to you, but you can't really change your voice and body. Well, unless you go through surgery. But It'll be over once puberty is finished. You should try to be comfortable with your body, because frankly, you're keeping it for the rest of your life .

Popeye116 :
I lately read that transsexuals mean that a transexual person is someone who feels the desire of changing their sex through surgey, and you don't have to do surgery to be transsexual;
I wanted to look for an answer, but I don't trust the answer to this question.

And about my brain or heart; I kinda remember that but thats not what I said. I don't think I said something like that. I must've said something else.
Oh, we will see if you can or can not change your voice..

Local Mods : Can you take care of the Spam posts here?

I would like to ask, "How do I address someone, without knowing them... Do I say it? That would be disrespectful. How would you address someone you meet for the first time?"

this post was fantastic i think it's important for people to identify with what ever they feel is right they deserve to be supported and be free to express themselves in anyway they feel comfortable and i feel it's important for people who don't know about it to be educated its a shame that other parts of society look down on peoples life choices

im cool with it
