What do you think of Sonic Boom?

I haven't played it, but I've watched some streams of the Wii U version and it looks pretty darn boring and glitchy. Everything I've seen is just mediocre. It's a bummer.

I haven't seen the show or 3DS version at all though, so I can't comment on those.

Linkums : I've seen the 3DS version, and I can't say I'm impressed either. I don't think I'll be going near Sonic Boom for a while, if not at all.

I've been watching Game Grumps playing it and it looks rather bland. Is it bad I am going to call this the new Sonic 06, cause I feel like it is.

I think... Honestly, I don't know what I think. I think modern television is about to ruin yet another classic franchise. They've done it so many times already, I've last faith. It looks like their trying it too kids friendly. I love Sonic Underground, because you always new that any one of the characters could die. It was dark. Well, dark for a kids show. They lightened up a lot with Sonic X... Unnnntil Chris decided to go into Sonic's universe and... well... Yeah, that whole plant thing was a lil bit dark... especially the episode with the haunted mansion... that was kinda scary... Anyway, I think that they're trying to make this too child friendly. We've learned from past shows that dark shows do well. Teen Titans, for instance. Or Metabots. Heck, you could argue Magination got dark at times. The point is, that kids have gotten over the whole kid friendly thing. It's BORING. I think the show is going to do well because of... "HOLY NIBBLY JIBLETS ITS SONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!!!11!!!1!" But, other than that, I don't think it's going to be a good show.

bombchu link : *clears throat* *pulls out files* Ok. They have been butchering Sonic for a long time, I'll admit starting with Sonic Colors. The gameplay wasn't half bad, in fact I dare say it was good, but the story... Yeah, they stole that from Mario. I swear, if Sonic Colors had been released three months later, we would have had Mario Colors. Or another Mario Galaxy, which ever. I would have to agree on the cartoon network humor. I'm going to use Sonic X and Sonic Underground as refrences a LOT here, so I recommend watching a few episodes if you haven't already. Let's look at Sonic Underground first, because it came first. I swear, this was a children's anime. You remember that cool show, Teen Titans? Yeah, this was Teen Hedgehogs. Oh, and if you'll take note, they have now destroyed Teen Titans, too. How about Sonic X? That show was more based on nostalgia... And it worked. I just about went into seizures when I watched the Sonic Adventure episodes from how happy I was. That is, quite literally, the ONLY time I have ever been happy to see Big the Fat I mean Cat anywhere. It had good humor, but (especially when you get into the space episodes) it had good dark plot points. That one planet (Don't remember the name, sorry) where Shadow discovered the traitors, and helped fight back? It was awsome. Especially with the Maria bit thrown in. Theeen we get Sonic Boom... Cartoon Network humor is an UNDER STATEMENT. This is My Little Pony humor, people! *Screams into a pillow* And, Knuckles... Man, Knuckles, what happened, man? I mean, I know he was pretty dumb before, but seriously? Wow, Sega, you've crossed a line that was never meant to be crossed. Also, Sonic HAS teamed up with Buttnik a few times before, for a brief period.

If you ask me, the games have been... Not good, maybe meh, for the past five years. The gameplay has been (mostly) fine. It's the stories and dialouge where the games lack. Big time. And I'm with you, I AM ALL OF ME is one of my favorite songs of all time, Sonic or no Sonic. And, I'm sorry kids, but the fart jokes got old looooong ago. Like, the second time they did it. I also whole heartedly agree with you on the big/little brother thing. Well done. Kids are watching animes like Sword At Online *shutters* and Soul Eater. *smiles* Why is that? Because their big brothers, older friends, or cousins are into them. Target the fans, and everyone else will come.

What happened to you Sonic? After Generations I thought there was maybe a chance you could make a comeback... i could tolerate Lost Worlds, it had some fun moments but then this? THIS???!!!

Where do I even start? The game has a load of glitches like the infinite jump glitch that lets you beat the game in less then an hour, come to think of it what other game has a glitch like that? Sonic 06 of course. Not to mention the just the awful constant frame rate drops, it's clear that the game was rushed even way before it was actually released.

And don't even get me started on the new characters, this is probably the thing I hate the most about the game and what's worse some actually defend the game by saying that it has a good story. The designs I could live with honestly though it's kind of weird with those bandages or "sports tape" as some call it. But all the characters do during the course of the game is spout one liners most of which are pretty crappy and the fact that they repeat them 14071928047170924 times doesn't really help. And the characters are so damn one dimensional, especially how they try to show how stupid Knuckles has become... WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS SEGA???!!! Seriously... I miss the old Knuckles. Or the fact that Tails is super smart and so on and so forth, WE GET IT.

And the game is so damn slow paced even during speed sections it seems pretty slow compared to other sonic games not to mention that pathetic spin dash... And the combat system is one of the most boring i've seen in any game ever basically just breaking down the pushing the same button every time to do the same lame combo. Sonic Unleashed's werehog stages were better, at least they felt somewhat god of war like and had much more intricate combos and a few moments where I enjoyed it albeit with that annoying battle theme that they reused for every battle in the game.

I already had pretty low expectations for this game honestly but somehow the game was even worse than I thought it would be and at some points I almost feel like I want to play Sonic 06 instead  at least it had better characters.

When you target the older audiences, little brother wants to do what big brother, big cousin, or even what dad's doing. (which is also why I don't like dads playing GTA in front of their ten year olds. . . )

But look at star wars.

When Star Wars battlefront came out, me and bombchu wanted to play because we watched the movies, but it's because of our dad that we got into the movies in the first place, and then the games.

By Lucas appealing to the entire family, he Sold out too the entire family! That's a lot more people who will buy the games.


Totally agree with you guys on Sonic X.


Sonic X was even better than the games in some ways, and for the first time, Sonic was a character who I actually cared about. He was a lot wiser, and reserved. Letting out a cocky quip when it was appropriate.


Now, Sonic and Eggman are pretty much the only good characters left. When I was watching Sonic Boom. It was horrible. They aren't even trying to entertain 12 year olds it seems. I noticed two characteristics that the show shared in common for kidnergartener programs!

-- 1 Almost no music.

I remember the makers of veggie tales, (good times, good times) talking about varios factors that go int their show on "Larry Boy and the Bad Apple" bonus material, and although I've gotten much older, I do occasionally watch the series with my younger siblings.

Anyways, they said that you don't want to make a bunch of tense music, cause, "little kids. .. they can feel that, and we don't want them to get all scared."

That is actually one of the things that bother me, (greatly) about Sonic Boom.


It's just so quiet! No stress! No tension! And any tension that does start, ends 15 seconds after it starts.


* Actually they changed Sticks eyes halfway through one episode from blue to green. Talk about a derp up. :/

Dr. Eggman may have a base, but he's always in the same town as everyone else and no one seems to care. No one arrests him and puts and end to his scheme, he just waltz's right in, and orders a hamburger! Even reading the newspaper while everyone else is battling a robot that he made!

In Sonic X Dr. Eggman had a base somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. And when the U.S. Finds it, they launch a full scale assault! Complete with F 16s and even a few human characters for soldiers!

Eggman isn't even there when his base comes under attack, so Decoe and Bocoe are forced to defend it instead!

Heck, no one ever asks the question, but those F 16s that got shot down. Did they have human pilots!?


I don't know why, but in video games, when you shoot infantry, parents make a big deal out of it. But for some reason you can shoot down ships and they will never care, (as if there are robots inside of them. . . ) But I doubt that there are robots. G.U.N. hunters didn't appear until season 2. And apparently the design for them were recovered from General Geralds files that U.S. was just now ready to mass produce them.

Out our curiosity, I studies some parked F-16s at Metal Harbor as Dr. Eggman. Taking a good look inside the cockpit.

The cockpit was a skin that covered only the outside, but it pretty clearly had a pilot inside with the full head gear and stuff. If it was a robot pilot, it wouldn't need a human's helmet with those air hoses going into the helmet.

The TV series is just that bad. :/

Nothing interesting happens, there is no overarching plot like Sonic X has, it's just a normal day of typical little child characters. *sigh*



The games I can't judge, but it makes me upset to hear about all the glithches a stupid humor.


Stupid humor get's old fast.

Give us something to remember, something that impacts our lives, like Sonic X did with Space colony ARK and Season Three.

Sword legion : You're right. ._. Why did Sonic make such a huge impact? Because it blew Mario out of the water faster than you can say mama-mya. Now, look what they're doing. They might as well throw in a "Friendship is magical" just to finish off the job. I really have no more to say... other than I'm really disappointed with Sega, following up a great show (I LOVE that interpretation of Shadow) with... This... *crys*

I really had hoped that Sonic Boom would be interesting, but it seems those hopes were dashed : ( Is there a lot of talking in it? Because that killed my interest in Sonic Colours on the DS. I sure hope the Wii version is better. It seems a lot of fun. I purchased it second hand a few days ago. Sonic Generations seems pretty neat too, so I'll definitely give that a shot when I find it for sale somewhere.

Ok, so I am watching the first few episodes of Sonic Boom, and... Better than expected. It's still not as good as Sonic X or anything, but, at least it isn't "Ohhhh, friendship is MAGICAL" crud. Sonic is kind of funny... But yeah, cartoon network humor. Sadly. And, the characters seem... off to me. Mostly Amy and Knuckles. Knuckles seems WAY more into himself than in the other shows, and Amy seems WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too forgiving. "But Sonic, you HAVE to let Eggman stay on your private property!" In Sonic X, Amy would be the FIRST one to kick Eggman out. I mean, what the heck? Sonic is still funny Tails is still.... Tails, Knuckles is still Knuckles (for the most part), but Amy... Is it just me, or in the first episode when Amy came in, were you expecting her to lunge at Sonic the whole time. ._. Yeah, thought so. But, nooo, that's too... I don't know, mature? In Sonic X, Amy spent every waking moment trying to... *censored* Sonic, yet now... I mean, c'mon, she's in a room, only her and Sonic, no one else. And she JUGGLES. Does anyone else see my issue here?

I liked some of the stuff about Eggman, but yeah, it's bad.

The best Amy is Japanese Sonic X Amy. Her voice isn't fake, and she's just a good character.

It's odd. Sonic is 18 in this game. Amy is also supposed to be older and more mature as well. I hate overused romantic scenes and ones that don't make sense, but I er. . . .

The guy who writes this stuff I heard is the same man who wrote south park. I honestly wish he didn't get the job.

Sword legion : I agree. South Park is AWSOME... but it isn't Sonic. The guy that wrote South Park, I'm guessing, is used to writing about (not kidding, this is in South Park) A roll of toilet paper that smokes weed. Yeah, we don't have weed (or toilet paper for that matter) in the world of Sonic. So, yeah, not the best person for the job.

Tailsmo. It was veeery interesting to see that roll along. And, the last episode (or second to last, I don't know which), when Tails has to kill Cosmo... That was actually sad. Not for Sonic, just plain sad. And now... ok, by a show of hands, who thinks ANY of the Sonic Boom characters are going to die ANYWHERE in the series. *crickets* Thought so. I mean, look at Sonic Underground (I love that show, if you couldn't tell). That first EPISODE has Sonic's, Sonia's, and Manic's parents DIE. What a way to start a kids show! But in Sonic Boom... Like I said, no one's going to die anywhere in the timeline. Sorry, not going to happen. Am I getting anything wrong here? XD

Sonic Boom was the biggest troll I have seen in my time. I'm sure that's the same thing that occurred with Sonic 06 before it was released too, where there's so much build up... and in the end it's just... whyyyyyyyy?

First the designs of the characters. All we had gotten really was the appearance at first, and holy crap Knuckles is huge (I have to call this guy noo-kless now). Of course fans can't accept the design right away, who WOULD? And I've made this joke time and time again but WHO TOOK JOWEE'S GOGGLES AND SCARF!? Now that the merchandise is out we can see they're personalities. Now personally I'm up for the change of Amy, I mean before she didn't really have a personality, as Sonic kinda blocked up that void .___. Now we know she still does like Sonic, but she actually has a life too. Knuckles seems to be... "Oh! There are presents!" "So who called me stupid? Did I call me stupid?" "Hold on, *checks hands to see which way is left* got it!" SWEET MOTHER OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL IN JULY. Ok, now before Knuckles was definitely pretty blunt. That however doesn't mean he was an idiot. He was pretty knowledgeable many times throughout the series, but often he let his ego and temper get in the way of things. He had a deep love for his planet and value of living things, and with that Knuckles description let's see how Knuckles (noo-kless) is doing. He stupid. He lifts. Thasit.

Tails is still pretty Tailsy, if not a bit more nerdy. I mean his roll is clearly making sci-ency things. Sonic has been put pretty vague in the series, he actually seems like Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I always made fun of him. While the other 3 we're the smart techy guy, the temperamental muscle, the goof, what was Leonardo? The leader the leader the leader. That's not an excuse for having nothing special. Well let's see, he tried putting Tails out of harms way, so he cares for his friends. Then he let Eggman stay at his place for a really long time without ONCE spinning into his face. He likes rest and relaxation, and he doesn't like wearing pants, that's all I got honestly.
Now in the video game I got a chance to see that he's more self-centered, and he likes putting himself above the others. And that leaves Sticks. Sticks made me worried for what would come, I could assume with her around things would be WAY less serious, but I never hoped it would lead to what we ended up getting. Her voice, her behavior, bring the kiddies. Seriously, Disney had the whole family friendly message going on, but name a single Disney movie without some heart-wrenchingly sad scene. But then this show can't even, well, look at the above post. Finally there's Eggman. He's Dr. Doofensmirtz, moving on.

The wii-u game is not only very glitchy, I'll get into the glitchyness in a minute, but it's soooo boring. The speed sections are limited on each level, and each is short-lived. The rest of the game is jogging at a leisurely pace as different characters to hit a button and go to the next place. Rinse and repeat. The fighting mechanics are made up of either hit them a bunch of times, use your special attack, or whip them. There's only these attacks, and they can't be stringed into special combos or anything. Speaking of combos, there's a hit ranking system that does absolutely nothing. And that's all there is, Sonic Colors speed step sections, button mashing fighting, button mashing puzzles, and that one boat level. As for the glitches, why are there so many? Now I understand sonic games have tons of glitches, in fact, finding a glitch in each game is somewhat of a tradition (I once played act 1 of planet wisp, and when I tried using a jump ramp I was slinged off towards the first part of the level. I died.) Now I thought the reason was that it's a really fast game, and it's hard to keep the player from running through the terrain or triggering anti-physics. But the fact a game like this has so many glitches when Lost World didn't (I haven't heard of any, so the few glitches if any are probably not majorly publicized) blows that idea out of the water. Yeah, turns out Knuckles really CAN fly in this game.

The 3ds is pretty monotonous in that it requires checking the levels many times over, but it's much more fast paced. Although the 3d models mess up some of the characters faces. Poor, poor, poor Knuckles.

So BigRedButton and the french TV company failed, miserably. Sega is working on their own next Wii-U Sonic title, but if this actual Sega product fails too... goodbye Sonic.

Game wise, horrible. Show wise, decent.

I was hoping that the game would be awesome, but no. SEGA gave it to Red Button, and RB made it a slow-paced game. I'm currently watching the Game Grumps take their chance with it, and it is just hilarious.

Show is pretty funny, or at least I find it funny. Sticks has her annoying voice and I haven't gotten over it, but at least Amy isn't all over Sonic. Knuckles is way too stupid, and Tails is the same as ever. As for Sonic, his personality fits him; a butthole who showsoff and makes bad decisions. But seriously, I like how they portrayed Sonic in the show.

I have never played the game so my opinion is going off of visuals and reviews I have seen. I hate the design of almost all of the Sonic team, Sonic looks like a hipster and Knuckles looks like Hulk Hogan's poop. This is another Sonic Team mess up in my opinion. I have seen nothing but bad reviews but you never know, might be decent, don't really know till I try it.

I haven't seen South Park, but I've only heard bad stuff about it really. Either way, yeah, I agree that the if the guy is used to writing. . . that. . . . then he really shouldn't be writing Sonic.

Maybe that the show was produced by a french TV company isn't so great either.
