***EDIT***: I really apologize for the way in which I was talking; I was just really upset and angry about this. I do not usually act this way, don't worry.

This has
got to be some sort of joke or something, because if it isn't then I'm going to sue my entire school for depriving me of my rights and forcing me to sign a contract which declares that I should basically be willing to give up sandwich-time and/or any other fun thing I may be doing on the weekend like sleeping or beating Green up to go to some stupid university and make a speech about Japan or something.

Uh... No, thank you?

"Oh, but Yasmine! You're a genius! You
must sign up!"

I literally just said I didn't want to.

"B-but, Yasmine!" *Sniff*. "You're the smartest one in your entire English class! You have to go!"

I don't want to; I have better things to do, and I have stage fright!

*Sniff, sob*. "Yasmine! This is disgraceful! We weren't placing the entire school's reputation on your shoulders just to hear you say 'no'!"

^ Shut up.

This random lady just walked into my English class today asking me whether I was going to join the MUN or something. I said I never even thought about it, and she was like, 'WHAAAT??!!"

Alright, maybe that was a slight exaggeration, but seriously. They were going around asking people whether they wanted to join the MUN or something (I still ask myself why the hell anyone would want to sacrifice precious hours of their time for this crud, but whatever). Alright, that was mean. I know some people enjoy participating and researching and writing papers and presenting and all that, but I certainly don't. OOPS.

They expected me to say yes just because I have the highest average in my English class. Yeah, alright, I get good grades and stuff, but that doesn't necessarily make me some sort of "sociable", "I-love-working-unnecessarily-ha-ha-ha-ha-rofl-:3-XD-<3-!!!11!!1!" person or something. I hate going on stage to read stuff.

Don't ask me why. It's never actually happened before, but I have this fear thing falling off or choking on nothing while presenting. Oops.

Well, I told her that I wouldn't register and that she should, like, look for someone else or something because there was no way in hell I was going to do it. So she just looked around the class and went, "Who wants to?" Of course, no one raised their hands because even though it's the highest English level of Grade 8, everyone's so lazy; aww, I love my class <33. Anyway, after no one said anything she turned right back to me and said I should do it.

I am literally willing to, like, fail all of my next English tests of this term just so I wouldn't have to do this MUN crud. WHY?! WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS?!

I starting getting ticked off and saying they have, like, NO right whatsoever to make me sign up for some sort of you-have-to-leave-home-and-present-papers-at-some-university-thing-about-Europe's-economy-or-something-whenever-we-call-you-oops hell. They just , like, CAN'T make me do that!

I know I sound like some sort of spoiled brat right now, but for Christ's sake!

Even my teacher was encouraging me to join and stuff. It's an inside joke in the class that I adore Japan (I really do, aww <33), so she was like, "Yasmine, you'll get to write about countries like Japan!" and then the entire class was like, "Yeah!!!11!!1!", and I have no idea what I've gotten myself into.

The lady told us that the winner would win a trip or a scholarship or something, and that's awesome, but, like, I don't want a trip or anything, and I don't want to do this. They say it's a full-commitment thing, as in, like, I can't say "NO" if they ring me up at one freaking am when I'm taking a bath or something to take a cab to some university in town to read about France in front of ten thousand billion people.

"But maybe you could win a trip JAPAN!!!"

And I don't want to go anywhere. The only places I plan to stay in are my country and Vizzed, thanks. And, again, I don't mean to brag, but, I'm, like, 99.9999% sure that I'd be the winner. That's another reason I don't want this MUN crud. I don't want the trip.

I don't want to do this unnecessary stuff.

"Oh, but Yasmine! It'll really look good in your records when you apply for college and stuff!!!11!!1!"

I don't care. I don't mean to brag, but, like, I am a freaking genius, so why don't you give some other kid a shot at being awesome to improve his or her record or whatever?! Ugh! It's like I haven't done enough already!

I'm reporting this to police and then they will burn my school down yay!

In all seriousness, though, good news! My classmate said he'd have a shot at it so I wouldn't have to. Aww, thanks Hassan <33!!!11!!1! Ur the bestest ever thanks so much <33!!!11!!1! Aww!!! <33 ^^

So I sigh in relief because some poor soul gets to suffer in my place.

Plus, I heard they're, like,
really strict there. My friend Ahmad joined and barely survived last year. He told us all about it. Like, you get in deep trouble for asking to go the bathroom in an "informal manner."

"Informal manner?"

What is this crud? How else am I supposed to ask to go to the freaking bathroom? Request permission to defecate or something?

BUT!

The lady leaves, and my teacher's all like, "Oh, Yasmine, I'm sorry to say this, but the Head of Section is probably going to choose you to join anyway!" She's probably right. My name is literally the first freaking name the teachers say when they want to show off to other schools and all that stuff, but that doesn't mean I want the school's reputation to pressured onto me because I'd probably drop it ha ha oops.

I'm more of a only-perfects-it-if-he/she-takes-his/her-time sort of person. Presenting and writing reports about some remote island in the Pacific Ocean or something on last-minute notice really isn't in my field or expertise.

One student from every class at least has to participate. My friend already joined! Why do I have to? Ha ha, they made it sound like they knew he'd screw up, so they'd need me just in case.

Alright, that was sad.

Anyway, I hope I won't have to do this ****. It's a waste of my time. I'd rather talk to all you awesome people of Vizzed.

First of all I do not think you are being a brat. I think you stated your opinion that you did not want to go and you declined. There is nothing wrong with declining things. The school should not make you do something if you have told them it makes you feel uneasy and that you do not want to do it. The school should respect your opinion. It seems to me what they are doing is harassing you. If they keep pushing you, you may have a legal claim if you wanted to take legal action. They are clearly pushing you, harassing you and even bullying you by calling you out in the class and stuff.  Don't let them push you into doing something you do not want to do if it makes you feel uneasy.

Oh, this one.

*Ahem*

Parents:

"You gonna join this?"

Me:

"No"

Next Day:

"You gonna join this?"

"No"

Next Day:

"You gonna join this?"

"No"

Next Day:

"You gonna join this?"

"No"

Next Day:

"You gonna join this?"

"No"

One Week later of askin gover and over and over again:

"You gonna join this Sword legion?" (Cuase everyone calls me by my computer name of course)

"No" I respond. "I told you already, I don't care, I have stories to finish writing online, and don't need more stuff taking up my time."

"I think you should join this VBS volunteer group."

"No"

*Forces me to go.*

As a result, I hate VBS, worst waste of my summer ever, and I don't even beleive what they beleive at that church. I have 100 things against most typical VBS stuff, and that it's made by parents who have no comprehendum of what their children really want to do. (We don't want to get on stage and sing songs made for kids 4 years younger than us. )

Not that I have anything against my parents, but it's like.

"Oh you want to go? No? *asks one million times* Oh, I'm forcing you anyways. Have fun!"

nnno.

Just. No.

I want to do with my life what I want to do, and if you wanted me to be a part of the community, then let me do something I like, please. Now, bowling, I do enjoy that every Tuesday night, and once I get my license, then I can get home sooner than 9:20. In the end, I understand how parents are, but don't ask, and the force someone if they say no. It's just pointless.

Not that I have anything wrong with my parents, and this example was based of real life events, but was just an example of how it goes. Thankfully, my parents don't do this very often. And, also thankfully, after 2 years of saying no repeatedly to family, and even people who just got to know me.

I got them to understand that I wasn't interested in wasting time and money on college when I had no interest in the job opportunities I could receive there compared to the roofing company I'm already hooked up with and making good money off of.

yeeesh.

BTW, don't complain to much, it only makes life miserable.

NintendoFanKimmy : This is the reason so many people in the world (INCLUDING ME) have resorted to violent video games. If it weren't for games like Mortal Kombat, where people can take our their aggression on virtual creatures that have no soul or purpose other than entertaining them, they would move on to taking out their aggression on REAL people and animals, mainly the things that they feel have wronged them, many of whom happen to be parents, teachers, or anything and anyone in authority. I have stage fright like you (well, ok, I'm just anti-social), so when a school thing I was in suckered me into acting classes, I was ready to kill. And your NOT being a brat. What they're doing is socialism. They don't have the right to tell you WHAT you're going to do and WHEN you're going to do it. And then when you refuse, there is no way in h-e double hockey sticks that they have the right to say "Oh, you'll probably get chosen anyway." Personally I would sic my dog on them, but that's just me. Like I said at the beginning, this is the EXACT reason that the world enjoys violence. The only way your going to get them to stop bugging you and free yourself from the curse is to call them out. You have to call them what they are. Socialists. You have to attack them on all sides. The only problem with that is the fact that you could ruin your reputation.

So, it's good to hear you're modest.  That's critical.

Second, if you're the top performer in the class, I think it's reasonable that the teachers would expect you or think you'd be excited to have an opportunity to get some experience in the real world and try some new things.  If you said no and kept the response, they should have gone to another student who wants to better themselves.

However, if you are missing out on a great opportunity to do some neat things, travel, compete, and work on bettering yourself by presenting in public, don't skip it because you want to sit at home and do nothing.  A website is website.  It'll be around later.  Or maybe Vizzed.com goes away one day.  When you start messing with a potential career and things that have a direct impact on the next four or eight years of your life, you should consider all consequences and repercussions of picking video games (massive waste of time) over developing your skill set and your talents.

If you really do things well that the school expects you to lead the way and you have this amazing reputation that proceeds you, you should capitalize on it.  Otherwise, you'll start passing up things like this because you're lazy and don't want to and suddenly that reputation goes away and you're just the person who hands in homework on time.  You miss out on some good real life things when you pick this crap over that crap.

Whoa. The theme of this is that being the best isn't all it's cracked up to be. (Yay I sound like I'm ending an English essay!)

The smartest/nicest/most hard-working people tend to be taken advantage of the most. That's why I'm glad that I'm not either of those in my school, or even close. People really should show much more concern for those people and not badger them to do things that they really don't want to do or probably can't do so well. I know they mean well (warmaker already explained that), but they should only ask you a few times and then leave you alone. Sure, it would be cool for the best student in the school to do something like that, but I'd rather let that person catch a break and not have to go unless they're the best person for that task.

Like I said, the people that are usually taken advantage of or asked to do stuff the most are the smartest/nicest/most hard-working people. In my school, many people choose me for lending them school supplies (and of course they tend to keep the supplies),
copying answers off of, getting help (for assignments, directions, or many other things), pressuring into sharing something personal, or spreading rumors about. The italic things are bad and the normal-font things are good with me.

Lately, my personality has been changing a lot. I've become more serious (which I'm actually starting to like a lot!), less happy (unless I'm with friends), less easy on people, and less hopeful. All of that is because of how people are treating me and how I've been feeling about myself. Usually, when I'm angry or sad, I'm quieter, and when I feel good about myself or I'm just happy, I'm funnier, louder, and much more social.

Since you're furious about this event that you might be forced to participate in, you're probably not much like your normal self. Maybe you're like what I mentioned above about myself. If you are going to be forced to go and present reports, you'll have to try to be more like your normal self on the outside and look at the bright side: you were chosen to do this because you're apparently the student your school is most proud of. It's a chance to capitalize on your amazing reputation, like warmaker told you.

Trying new things, as long as they're good things, is so great to do, even if you don't like it. In the end, you might feel better about yourself because you did it and tried your best, no matter how bad you did on it.
