So this will be my 15th Anime review, How time flies by when your furiously watching anime I suppose. Just saw how many of my threads are actually in this forum and it amazed me, Anyway I hope you enjoy the review.

Like usual please comment your opinions about the anime I reviewed, I would appreciate it.

Synopsis
Madoka Kaname has everything in life that she would ever possibly need , she has a loving home and friends who care about her . After a chance encounter one day everything in her life takes a sudden flip and she finds herself in a whole situation filled with something she is not quite ready for .

Genre 9
Oh my , a magical girl anime . That is not all there is to this series, there holds a lot of drama and psychological tendencies to this as well. So in a way it takes all the cute sweetness from a typical magical girl anime and gives it its own spin on things. How ruthless the real world is and how things are always as they seem. Something you were promised could have underlining meanings and you could be agreeing to something you have no clue about.

Story 8
As I said in the synopsis, Madoka has everything she could possibly need but when she saves the life of a “cat” she is offered a deal that would grant her her wildest dreams as long as she became a magical girl. Who could turn that down? Definitely not this girl, as she accepts this offer. I know this sounds like a really sweet anime made for a younger crowd but that is not the case as this has quite the dark story to it this is a story made for the older crowd. This story has some good twists to it that you wont see coming and the feel of it is really exciting and dramatic.

Characters 7
Not your typical character development, sometimes it seems like Madoka regresses but given the situation she is put in that is somewhat expected of her. Aside from that you can't really pinpoint any reasoning for other characters aside from Homura's intentions which you do not even realize until later in the series. That has to be one of the bigger flaws in this series as far as characters go, you do not know how any of the girls go into the situation they are in now and you do not know much about any of them.

Detail 7
Half modern and half unique, this anime makes use of light colors and works well with them. Some scenes seem somewhat scratchy in my opinion but the over fluid of actions in the scenes are down well and are executed fairly. I think their best art is done during action scenes, the art is dramatic for it's given color palate. Overall the art is not this studio's best representation, I am unsure if that is purposeful but it is a bit disappointing. It still has a nice charm to it and is still easy enough on the eyes to get you through the series but they could have done so much more with the whole style they were aiming for.

Sound 8
Some openings and endings may seem out of place, at least they did for me. On the other hand a few of them really stood out and gave the proper feel the show was aiming for and were executed perfectly. The plot in this anime is very dark and twisted and I enjoy when the music in it reflects that because when you have such light colors used it takes away from that feel of it. The background music was done nicely, it gave good representation of the moods established for their respective scenes. They added a nice touch and helped give a decent feel for what was going on around them.

Addictiveness 8
I actually first started this anime when it was being released back in 2011 and I did enjoy it but at the time I was fairly busy and ended up dropping it in favor of other anime at the time. This is a pretty enjoyable anime though and I quickly picked it back up when I was given the opportunity. While I started it again for the second time you see more of what you may have missed the first time around and that added for the overall enjoyment I had for this. It was not something I could watch so quickly though, you probably could watch this entire series in a day if you really enjoy it but some days I felt myself struggling to choose to watch it.

Over-All 8
The plot of this is what really drives it home, you are opened up to a world where you think things are going to be cute but you quickly find that things are not as they seem. Some moments in this anime absolutely crushed me an others made me pretty happy. Aside from the plot the overall production of this series is done well enough to also be an enjoyable aspect not always the best and sometimes a bit dull it does hold your attention. Just do not go into this thinking it is a light anime, it is a fantastic series but not for the younger crowd in any way.

If you have positive or negative feed back about this review please let me have it. Thanks and thanks again for reading my reviews.

sonicmcmuffin :

I'm a little surprised that I didn't see more 10's to be honest.

But maybe you've seen better anime is why.

I really liked this anime, it wasn't my style per say, but the story, character development, ect cetera I really would have to rate high. It truly is a masterpiece, and no episode at any point in time was boring to me.

The art was amazing, and the story was incredibly dark. I'm glad it wasn't just "ooooh Magical Girls fight wwiiiiiiiiiitthcccessss!"

I'll be honest, I'm kindof new to anime, but I have some friends who recommend good ones, Madoka was one of them.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

I don't really understand this statement. It's explained perfect well how the events happen in the series.

could you redefine "go into the situation"

What situation are you talking about, isn't all Shojo anime start with the Girls becoming Mahou Shojo and then story starts from there? I can't really see how one could complain about the characters not be developed before becoming Magical Girls.

"Overall the art is not this studio's best representation, I am unsure if that is purposeful but it is a bit disappointing."

I haven't seen much anime from SHAFT personally, but at least the cinematical presentations of the movie edition really helped with the scenery and effects. (especially when Kyoko battles Octavia)

Also that one fighting scene in the third movie, best fighting scene ever. (If you haven't seen the third movie AKA rebellion story, you should see it sometime)

"Some openings and endings may seem out of place, at least they did for me."

I didn't really notice this, in the Blueray version they game EP 1 and 2 and ending theme, and a special ending theme for EP 9

(Though they should have used this song  (Seperate links) for the ending of EP 10)

As for addictiveness, I've watched through the thing 3 times now (watch up to EP 10 on my fourth watch through) and I've seen the third movie 3 times as well.

Their is a lot, lot behind the scenes, and I think my second watch through the show was my favorite since I knew Akemi Homura's intentions and her perspective of everything from the beginning. (especially when she speaks to Mami in EP 3, and Madoka in EP 4 (and I think 5).

The plot was multi-layered in many ways, (my favorite kind) and even after a month of Madoka, I'm still finding out more and more stuff about it.

I haven't seen very much anime (yet) but as of now this is the best, most original, catch-you-off-guard plot I've ever seen.

P.S. Gen Urobuchi (the writer of the story) thinks that Sayaka wasn't bullied enough in the plot, and found her part of the story the most fun to write.

Have you considered putting pictures in your review? It would be appealing on the Story, Characters, and Detail categories. Also, it would be great if there were little sections that describe each of the main characters that appear in the anime and your thoughts about them. Since I'm guessing you don't want to give away too much of the story in order to prevent spoiling, you can try to describe your personal thoughts about each character in the anime and give examples of what they did (without going too much into detail) that made you feel that way towards them. These are just some suggestions of mine.

Going on to your review, I have to disagree with your statement on how the anime doesn't provide much information about the other girls. Two of the girls "tell" their story, while the audience witness how one of them becomes a magical girl. As for the other two? Well, that's kind of the plot already.

I do like how you noticed that Madoka seems like she regresses in the series. You'd think that with the psychological trauma she went through in the anime, she'd have a less innocent mindset.

Mistress : It's hard to write reviews that are informative and yet don't spoil the show, Especially in anime lol... But thanks for the advice.. I've probably moved on from writing anime reviews for now.. Mainly due to the fact i wrote so many in such a small amount of time...    Hopefully i shall create more in the future
