So I am currently siting in my classroom waiting for class to start and I am really dealing the pressure of school. I have come so far and the end is in sight but ever thing is just compounding and I don't feel like I can handle this anymore. Just a little background: I am in my senior year now and I have been continuously going to collage since fall 2007 and I really want to be done and move on with my life.
So the stress I am feeling is from two of my classes my senior project and another class by the same teacher. The stress I have has begun to spill over to my other classes and they are suffering now too. My teacher for these classes is new this year and has different rules that I am not used to:
1. He requires assignments turned in at 5:00 pm. And while this may seam like a reasonable thing for me it feels like an arbitrary time as it is in the middle of my day and it cuts into the time I have to work on things. He is using the schools web system and you can not turn things in after 5
2. He has not been accepting my work that I have emailed him. He has a late policy that reduces the grade each day it is late but he is giving me no way to turn it in even an hour late.
Now the big issue I am having is that even though he emailed me back saying that he got them I have just learned today that he has given me a zero.
I deal that this teacher is being extreme any un fair to me and is waiting my time and money and preventing me from moving forward in my life.
Dose it seem that I am being to harsh on him. Do you have a similar issue. Any advice you want to give.
Thanks in advance for your comments. Just talking about it I feel will be a great help.

Here's my advice:  Face the fact that you're on his time, his program, and he controls the situation.  If an assignment is due at X time, like 5:00 p, then you have to be done and have it in at 5:00 pm.  When you hit the workforce and take on real jobs, they don't work around your schedule, you work around their schedules.  This is some real life stuff you're learning right now so quit the complaining, shuffle your time around, and get some work done.

Try getting up earlier, going to bed earlier, and getting things done in the morning.  You can get an amazing amount of work completed before 10:00 am.  Again, the real world may operate different from what you want and that is just something you'll have to deal.

Lastly, you are being too harsh.  Let me point out why.

1.  You may disagree with the policy and the rules but the professor has clearly stated the policy and the rules.  He didn't change anything from the start of class.  Even if it is different from other classes, he has been consistent with how he's running the program.

2.  If he uses the web system that doesn't allow assignments past 5:00 pm, that means he's not the only one to do it and it's well known how the system works.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself.  Take control of your life, make the adjustment, and get the work done.   You can do it.

Personally I do not think you are being harsh. If he has a late policy and you turned it in he should have just dropped your grade and not give you a zero. Sounds like he might have it in for you. My advice would be to tell him in a polite way how you think he is being unfair to you and how you feel like you do not deserve a zero since you worked and turned your assignments by e-mail. I would also work hard to make sure i get the work in on time as well.  That would be my advice.

I had a teacher like that not in college but when I was in high school. I was making a solid B in the class almost an A. However I got the flu but I still turned in my work. Then I got sick with Myocarditis which is inflammation of the heart muscle and can be fatal. I was not able to return to school till finals week. I turned in my assignments as I had my parents drop them off to the school and they put it in her mailbox. She gave me an F because even though I had doctors excuses she said I missed to much time. I was so mad because it would later keep me from getting honors when I graduated. Had she not failed me I would have graduated with Honors. I was a Freshmen or I might have been a Sophmore. She had it in for me.

warmaker : I recognize the fact that I have made mistakes. I just want the teacher to work with me in stead of making things so much harder than they have to be. While I do recognize that part of school is to prepare you for real life I feel that school is not the same. I am not on his time, he is on mine, I am the one who is paying the money and have an actual investment in the education. The teachers role is to provide me with the education that I pay for. The way that I feel right now is that this teacher dose not care about me at all he just wants things done his way and that is not the kind of person that I want to be my teacher. If I had any real choice in the matter I would not be in his class. But I can let him get in the way of moving forward with my life.

Sad but truth, you are the one going to college for a paid education. You need to follow the college's standards, rules , regulations, and as well as the professors' policies. Not every professor that you will meet, will take it all easy on you just because of your time and other affairs outside of me. I remember from last year, I had this bad professor that would make me dress up professionally for useless presentations and make my class do so much unnecessary work. She would also be very strict on attendance if one isn't in their seat at the exact starting time for class. I have online homework that has certain deadlines and if I miss it, I don't get points at all.

Your professor is trying his best to run his class in his own way that would work with everyone and keep the students on their toes. Remember that you are not the only college student and the world doesn't only revolve around you. If you are a serious student, you should at least try your best to manage your time or at least try to talk to him in person. Talking in person and talking through e-mail are two completely different worlds.

It's either you take responsibility of yourself and take better time management or watch your grade suffer. If you do not like the professor's standards and rules, then drop out of his class. There are other professors are much more nicer and lenient.

It all depends on you!

ghostfishy : I have  begun to  take steps towards working things out with this teacher and I am hoping that things will turn out best in the end. In response to dropping the class, doing so would do more harm than good because that will push me back. Also I have no control over who my teacher will be my school only offers one section of each class a semester. The department dose not have enough staff to give students an option on the teacher for the class. The only way I would drop the class is if there was no longer any way for me to pass the class. I am not one to quit just because I have a rough time.

You will need to work things out with him then. Complaining and arguing won't get you anywhere if this is the case. You should work on his homework and stuff first since it is the one that requires an earlier deadline than the first as it is due online at a certain time.
