I've been a Pokemon fan since the beginning and that will never change, with that being said I'll try my best to make this review as unbiased and fair as possible. Most fans of the series will probably say that either gen 1 or 2 is their favorite and I respect their opinions but my favorite is gen 3 because it has in my opinion the best selection of starters in the series, a wonderful cast of characters, and it was it has the best post story content in the main series. But enough about that I'm going to start the review now.

Graphics: 9/10 For a GBA game the graphics are great! They are a huge improvement over gen 2. There aren't very many games for the system that look better than this. Because I have seen better looking GBA games though I give the graphics a 9.

Sound: 8/10 This game has some really fantastic music. There are lots of great battle themes from the elite 4 theme to the Team Magma/Aqua grunt and leader themes, the Regi theme and more. A lot of the other music from the game is excellent as well. While soundtracks from more recent pokemon games are getting amazing soundtracks of their own, this one will always have a special place in my heart. But there are other games on the GBA with better soundtracks such as Golden Sun so for that reason I give the sound an 8.

Addictiveness: 10/10 I have never replayed any other game as much as Pokemon Emerald. I'd probably guess I've beaten the game at least 10 times maybe more. One reason for that is the wonderful starters. This is the only game in the series where I've beaten the game with each of the starters. Another reason is because of the soundtrack which I already went over. Also I absolutely love how you can go underwater using the dive HM. The only games you can do this in are Pokemon Black and White 1 and 2. Unfortunately the use in those games are nowhere near as good as R/S/E. In Gen 5 Dive is used in the post story to go to these underwater ruins (I can't remember it's name) that's it. While in R/S/E you can use it to find hidden secrets such as items, as well as a cave that you need to go to in order to get a certain legendary trio. Also there are certain areas that you need to go to in order to progress in the game using dive. Also you can catch wild pokemon underwater to. The story is also really good I'll get to that really soon. For these reasons I give addictiveness a 10.

Story: 7/10
Pokemon isn't known for it's storylines but this game had a good one. Sure most of the story is something we've seen before: You play as a 10 year old kid who gets to go on a Pokemon journey you beat gym leaders and the elite 4 then battle to become the champion, but there is more to the story than that. There are 2 evil organizations known as Team Aqua and Team Magma. Team Aqua's goal is to awaken Kyogre so they can make the sea bigger. Team Magma's goal is to awaken Groudon so they can increase the land. Their goals is where my problem with the story lies. Okay if you increase the land, then there'll be less sea, and pokemon who live in the sea will suffer... If you increase the sea, then how the heck is humanity going to survive? Humans need land if we had less land then there would less room for people to live... The stupidity of the 2 organizations is why I'm not giving the story a higher score. I'm giving it a 7.

Depth: 10/10 Pokemon Emerald has so much depth. Unlike the previous games in the series, there's plenty of post story content. The main post game content is the Battle Frontier. The Battle Frontier is made up of 7 battle areas: the Battle Dome, Battle Pike, Battle Factory, Battle Arena, Battle Tower, Battle Palace, and Battle Pyramid. Each of these areas have unique rules your goal is to win a bunch of battles in a row. Eventually you'll get Battle points which you can use to get different prizes. After you beat a certain consecutive number of trainers in a row, you'll earn the right to face the frontier brain of that facility. Beat them and you'll get a frontier symbol (which is the battle frontier's version of gym badges). This adds a huge amount of depth to the game. Also you have the national dex to fill as well. For those reasons I give depth a 10!

Difficulty: 9/10 The main game is not super hard there are some trainers that can be difficult if you're not leveled up enough. My advice if you're having trouble is to level grind and make sure you have a diverse pokemon team. If you do that you shouldn't have too much trouble. There is one thing about the game that's very difficult: The Battle Frontier! Your opponents pokemon will either be level 50 or the level of your highest pokemon. The trainers in the battle frontier are very tough and if you want to get all the symbols you're gonna be playing this game for awhile. Becuase of the battle frontier's brutal difficulty I give the game's difficulty a 9.

Overall Scrore: 9.5/10 Pokemon Emerald is an awesome game that should be played by all pokemon fans. Missing out on a classic like this would be very sad. With a massive amount of content, a decent story, and loads of replayability, Pokemon Emerald is my personal favorite game in the series. I hope you enjoyed reading this review.

Great job on this review, you sure have put in the effort for this one. The length and the formatting are both great and I like that you made the categories and grades stand out the way that they do. I can't wait to see another one of your reviews if they are this good. As for the game, I also love Pokemon and this is my 2nd favorite Pokemon game behind golden

zanderlex : Thanks! I'm glad you like my review! It took me awhile to make. Taking time to make long reviews is hard for me to do. I'm glad that this one was worth it!

If only this was a PC review, I might have featured it, and if you can make your reviews even better, you will become more well known on good terms because of them. Keep up the good work.
