This review is not meant for all the old school gamers who have played this game before. I made this review for the younger kids on here who have never played a game from console and want to try and play a classic
Ok I am going to be honest this is the first review I am writing so I am not !00% sure if it is going to be good. This is more going to be my opinion on a game that I herd was one of the most amazing games to ever be played.
so final fantasy 7 was one of the first play station one games I ever played. Unfortunately this was not until I was 17 years old and spoiled with the graphics of other systems. When I first booted up the game I remember thinking " wow... this is what the called graphic back then." I mean I was used to play station 2 graphics where people looked like people but here they were triangles walking around and yelling at each other. And the amount of text at the beginning seemed a little mind numbing. The only thing that really kept me going past the first hour was all the hype I heard from every one about the game being one of the best games.
when I finally made it past the first hour and started getting in to the meat of the story and actually beginning to understand what going on. The whole mako energy, the big company that is ruling the city, and we are the group trying to stop them with one of their very own super soldiers. I was thinking yeah that is a cool plot not super different but then again back then it might have been newer then it was now. And as the people who have played this game before that all turns out to being half the story. It all then becomes a global search for sephiroth,  a man from clods past, and all this power that he is looking for to find ( or make I never was sure on that part ) his promise land, and at the same time the company you were fight is also looking for this same power to better their grip on the city and then the world. So in truth you are a group now fighting to stop a megalomaniac and a company to destroy the world, and all of this is connected to some sort life blood that the world needs that every one shares but was getting destroyed. Now all of this really started making me excited and made me want play the game more and more.
now the game itself was not much to look at my age but this story was more then enough to keep any one wanting to play it. It was super deep and split off a bit so each character had their own story inside of the story. It made each walking triangle in to a human and made you care about them. It was actually a much deeper and connective story then any I experienced with the other rpg's I played from the modern era. And the amount of character you get to play with is pretty awesome. One of the best to get was ( in my opinion ) was yufi because at first she comes out as a fight and I was think " whoa that an odd monster to fight." then you go in to some talking scene with her that ask you if you want to save. Now I did the biggest mistake in saving think oh yeah that was a tough battle don't want do that again. And because I saved she ran away. I actually had to look up on how to get here and that was some of the charm with this game. You just didn't get something for free there was a bunch of small this that you had to do to get them all the finale limit were something you had to do something special for. Getting the awesome characters took you knowing what you were doing or bashing your head against the wall 100 times before you got it. It made everything in the game more worth it because you had to do so much work for it.
another great thing about this game is how open the world is, now we talk about open world games now a day and say some of the best are assassin's creed or the batman games but this game put them to shame. Like I said earlier one of the things that made the characters something you can get so attached to was that they each had some of their own stories the split off the main stories, and the openness of the games world is what lets this happen. Now compared to modern day final fantasies ( I'm looking at you final fantasy 13 you hall way running simulator) witch are all pretty much just you running from point A to point B with one or two chances to go for C or D but in this game after you get out of the city you can go from point A to point G if you wanted... you might die 1000 times for trying to but hell you had the chance to if you so wanted. And once you get father in the game to get the boat ( in disc one)  you can go to even more places and see even more other things apart from the main story. The other great thing to this open world of final fantasy 7 is that you do not get a hand holding amount of help to find your way. It more of a " yeah where you have to go is like on the right... over some sand" and to me this made the game such a greater adventure instead of like today where its " ok so you walk 20 paces to the right and then %) to the north wait for the buss, the way you wait is crouching and hitting buttons triangle and R1"  that just makes the game feel like your not doing anything your self, more like the game is just playing itself. This game made you feel like you were the grand fighter fighting you way to some unknown destination.
besides the open worldliness of the game the game also had some fun little side activities for you to do. One was breeding chocobos for racing and finding secret around the map and others are little games in the Gold Saucer that you can use to earn your self money. One of the funnies little mini games they gave in that area is the bike racing one, which you drive around on a bike and swing around clouds sword to knock over other bikes to earn a score. Its a fun game but very hard to get a lot of points in cause the controls are a little slippery and the hole where you are in position to the other guys on bikes  make it hard to hit them and score point. Now the best side event you can do I find is the battle tournament thing you can do in the golden saucer. The way this works is you come in to a fight and a spinner Goes. The spinner has a bunch of de buffs on it and you get one and have to fight with that de buff on. Once you beat what your fighting you fight another creature and the spinner comes back and gives you another de buff. This Goes again and again for 5 or 6 battles. And you earn point at the end. Now you get more points for the more difficult de buffs you had on you but this also makes it very hard to win all the battles so it takes a lot of skill and a pretty buffed out character to get high points in this side event
if you have even played final fantasy 13 you remember the level up system where you spend points in a certain class to level up that classes power and give it new abilities, where here in final fantasy 7 they have a much more custermizbel leveling up system. The way finale fantasy 7 works is your character levels up from gaining experience and thus its starts raise higher, each character having their own stats that the excels in but the abilities the characters have ( not counting their limits) are determined by little orbs called materia. The ways these worked was your weapons and  armor had slots in them that you could put materia in. slots had a line between them that can cause your materia to combine together. conbos are like added effect and zio witch lets your attacks cause lightning damage. Now the other cool thing about materia is that they have their own leveling up system witch was the more you used the materia  the more points it gets and the father it levels and the more abilities your get from the materia. The one down side to this is that even summons are bound to materia and so you can only use a few so you have to be very creative on how you use your slots and materia. Now this also means you could put your foot in your mouth a lot of times if your not careful because you can get multiple of one kind materia but each one has its own level so you can put the wrong materia in a slot and then be out of your mojo cause you have the weaker materia on.
so time to say something embarrassing. I never finished this game, I knew what was going to happen at the end of disc one and I did not want that to happen, not until I got " her" finale limit. So I went around in the first disc grinding and working towards getting " her " limit witch I found very confusing. I even restarted from the beginning three times because of the bug in the American version that can cause you to not get all the limits. A bug that a very much hope is not in the vizz copy. Now the reason behind not finishing the games was not from lack of love for the game but because in my effort of trying to get the final limit I never went far in the first disc and when moving from one house to another the first disc got broken and so I could no longer play it.
my finale thought on this game for all you who want to play a piece of history is go for it. Even if the graphics are a little hard to look at the game is like a woman of your dreams. Not the pretties girl around but has a personality that you will fall in love with over and over again. I recommend this games 100 times over and don't think you will regret your time put in to this classic. It beats hand down most of the rpg's that have came out in recent years and even makes the recent final fantasy games look like something made by companies to fallow some wired rules that will make a game big but no one that plays game want.
I am sorry if this review is kind of all over the place and not very informative but it is my very first one and I really love this game so I wanted to try and give the view of a newbie to these older games so other younger people would come and play them. I hope this review can be helpful for those of you that read it and make you really want to play this amazing game, it will quickly take a place in your heart and make you want to play even more games from this system good day have fun and don't judge a game by its graphics

oh wow.... I didn't look to see what forum this was posted in, so at first I thought it was an introduction thread, and you were a young guy playing old games! XD XD XD

I guess I never thought about writing a review specifically targeting the younger audience, so that's pretty cool.  However, I'd definitely make sure that in the future, I put an empty space between each paragraph.    Your way of wording things also makes it hard to understand at times, but it's not impossible to read.

By the way, I do agree with you on your opinion of  'hand holding' in newer games.  I think many older games were more challenging and thus taxing on your brains, so the logical aspect of them made them more fun to play.
