Welcome to my new series! This particular tale will be about an average man and his attempts to stop a force more powerful than any government. That's all I'll say for now. Let's get started.

He collapsed to the ground in a heap, his attempts to move utterly futile. Not that he would get far anyway; there was little here besides hills and dust. As he hit the ground, a thought crossed his mind.
Funny. This place that i had so fantasised about being a paradise is where i will die.
This reminded him of his most immediate threats. The radiation was pounding his body to bits, and the dust he inhaled which was currently tearing up his organs didn't help either.
He had nothing to patch his suit up. Not that it would help much, he was stuck. And the worst kind of stuck; stuck on another celestial body where nothing could (or would) save him.
It was hardly his fault it was here. He was just trying to help. Of course, helping out in years past never bore much fruit for him. In fact, it did more to steal from the harvest. But somehow he kept from being bitter. Now it was time for the most extreme reminder about humanity's flaws possible.
I'd like to see another miracle save me now. Yeah, like that'll happen.
He rolled onto his back and gasped, blood literally floating out of him. Here he would get his last view of his home. But even all of his experiences so far couldn't prepare him for the shocking sight above him.
Anything that was not blue had smoke hovering above it. He could see massive explosions, and it was not clear who was doing what. What he could also see were tin cans floating above the blue marble. Well, they looked like tin cans, but he knew they were anything but. They were deploying troops and smaller objects he deemed to be daughter ships. Looking at it, a familiar lyric entered his mind:
Planet Earth is blue, and there's nothing i can do.
What a perfect sentence for the situation. He did all he could, but it was all in vain. He was going to pay for his optimism and effort. His eyes shut and he tried to say some final words:
glargleglrad
Maybe swallowing all that dust wasn't the smartest idea......
