If you could build your ideal house, what would it be like and what would it include?

Lately, I find myself saving a lot of 'home' pictures to my computer. I know that most likely... I will never reasonably be able to afford an architect or building team for my own personally designed house. However, part of me imagines that if I could save money and learn how to build things myself... I could get it done.  The only things that stand in my way would be any legal / building regulations to abide by.

I'm probably one of the few people I know who would want a smaller house.  However, I'm also pretty minimalistic.  Big things are nice, but useful things are nicer.

I tend to like unique ideas, when I envision my future home. for example, I really like the idea of having children's bedrooms that have a secure raised area like this (not that I'd build my child's bedroom so fancy, mind you):
