The History of Pokémon for Pokémon Fans!

Pokémon trainers catch and capture wild Pokémon and train them for battle. When Pokémon started, no one knew that Pokémon would capture so many fans.
Video Games.
The first game was called Pokémon Red and Blue. It came out in 1996 in Japan. The newest game is named Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, which is for both 3DS and 2DS, the 2DS is a new Nintendo handheld witch is for people who can’t stand the 3DS on the 3DS or are too young to have the 3DS. One older video game needs cards. That game is called Pokémon Trading Cards. It is for the Game Boy Color. Pokémon omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is a remix of the Game Boy Advance games Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire. Even though Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire was released in March 19 2003, the game was trying to show off the Game Boy Advance’s improved graphics and sound, and introduced now-permanent fixtures to the Pokémon world, such as double battles and Contests. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is a new Pokémon game for the 3DS (according to Pokemon.com) there are 65 (including Pokémon green which was released in japan) games in the Pokémon Franchises.

Movies
There are 19 Pokémon movies (including a movie that was released in Japan.) The first movie was Pokémon: The First Movie. It came out in 1999. The newest movie is Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. The release date is Unknown. But it is coming soon. The info of the movie (token off of the official Pokémon site) is: In Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. In the underground Diamond Domain, where many Carbink live, the Mythical Pokémon Diancie serves as ruler. The Heart Diamond that sustains the land is beginning to fall apart, and Diancie is not yet strong enough to create a new one. While seeking help from the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas, Diancie encounters a group of thieves who want to take control of its diamond-producing power—and who awaken the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal from its cocoon in the process! Can Ash and his friends help Diancie discover its true power, stop Yveltal’s rampage, and save the Diamond Domain?
Trading Cards
The Pokémon Trading Card Game came out in Japan in October 1996. In December 1998, it came out in North America. There are Theme Decks and Booster packs. The newest card deck is X and Y Furious Fists. The Trading Card Game can also be played online. Most kids collect the Pokémon cards and put them in Pokémon card books, Collect the cards and Battle with them or trade with other Pokémon fans. Nintendo made a Pokémon trading card Event that is everywhere. Fans participate the games to win prizes, to show off their skills or just to interact with other people.

The history of Pokémon is fun. It started with 150 Pokémon. Now there are 718 Pokémon. Can you catch them all?

Heck no I can't catch them all

This is a good project, and what I find so interesting about Pokémon is that it's mostly known for its handheld games, as the console games are good but never got as popular as the handheld games.

If somebody ever would want to know a bit more about the game and the series, this could be useful for newbies to Pokémon.

juuldude : You mean Pokemon is more known for the anime than the games? Sure, the handheld are more known than the console games, but the anime is more known than everything else.

This is pretty good.

zanderlex : I don't know about that. I think it depends on where you are from. If you are talking about global stats... Then maybe. However I know almost everywhere I have been and in almost every school I have taught, the games have always been far more known. Not everybody reads comics or mangas, or watches animes. But almost everyone plays video games.

Singelli : from what I have seen, people talk about games at schools because they most likely have them with them and can play them, oppord to watching an anime there. Just in my seniri class, there was at least 12 kids out of 30 who would play the games in lunch, before the teachers start class, and in gym every day. They can't watch the anime in school though.

Interesting project! This also seems like it would a general F.A.Q for a "what is Pokemon?" -type of thread.

When you said the history of pokemon, I thought you meant the original pokemon.
Known as pocketmonsters (hence poke - mon), it (the manga) follows red.
The pokemon can talk, can evolve any time, reverse evolve, there are normal animals.
Or pokemon adventures, where the pokemon are actually cut in half, blown up, yada yada.

The games and tv shows were really toned down.

zanderlex : Although I didn't say that I gotta agree with it. When people make fun of Pokémon it's because of the anime, when they're talking about the games they're pretty serious.

RMJEtheReploid: If you need any help with this, taking a little bit of what TNO said, where Pokemon came from, it's actually short for Poketto Monsuta which is Japaneses for "Pocket Monster" and in the gamer's world, the word Pocket means Handheld/Mobile, which is why you see the main Pokemon games on Nintendo's handheld devices (such as the GameBoy, the GameBoy Color, the GameBoy Advance, the Nintendo DS, and the Nintendo 3DS) and not on the consoles (other than spin-off games).
