Ok, it's been a little while since I have done one of these reviews, but I think that a review from me has been long overdue, so with that
saying, time for a review from me.

Pokemon Y is one of two games that was released on October 12th, 2013, which introduce a brand new generation to the series known as the 6th Pokemon Generation which means we have a brand new region which is called “Kalos” with 69 new Pokemon introduce to the PokeDex to make a grand total of 718 Pokemon (and face it, that is a whole lot of critters right there)., and brings a lot into the series like I’ll mention below. This game also introduce a lot of interesting features (and to my opinion, I think these games has more introductions than any other first game in the past generations), with a lot more improvements with the trading, a brand new graphic introduction (which I will describe more below under “graphics” ), and for the first time ever, a brand new evolution level known as “Mega Evolution”.

Graphics...

I got to say, for the graphics in this game, it is quite a huge improvement from the past games in the series, the reason why is with the new 3-dimensional graphics that the 3DS provides, such as a more semi-realistic look for the settings (like made the settings a little more realistic, but keep that cartoony look like we all very know in the whole series) such as the buildings in the cities and towns you visit, they all look like they all are make quite well. Plus the weather in the same (which was introduced in Gen V) looks a lot more realistic than before, and that is a huge improvement to the series. And not just that, but all the Pokemon in the game has got a huge graphic upgrade since the last games, and why I’m saying that, it gives them a full detail of their looks and for the first time ever in the series, you can see their reaction when they use their moves, rather than just a “one moving sprite”, and this being the first 3D handheld, this add a whole lot of flavor to the series and for future games in the series as well.

With the Graphics, I have to give it a
9 out of 10, the graphics in the game just looks oh so good, if you know what I mean, with it being the first "3-D' Pokemon game, the 3-D expectation of the game is quite outstanding.

Sound Effects / Music...

This is what makes this game really unique, the sound effects and the music, and with all the past games, it’s a little tough to have a new sound effect for the game which is understandable, but in this game, they have tried a whole lot more sound effects and I think they really did a good job with it, and with the Pokemon cries, they really make it a whole lot more clearer than in past games, like I have a few that I have traded with others and listening to then vs. listening to them in the past, they sound a lot more clearer than ever before, but this is in fact a newer system, so you have to take that out of consideration, those were earlier games, so they have so much they can work with, but who knows, in future games, they might have a whole lot more clearer sound effects than we have now, that is what I think to my point of view though, so only time will tell.

As for the music, I think the music in this game has also made a whole lot more progress as well with newer changes (well, this is the first game in the new generation, so you’ll bound to hear a lot more newer stuff, but they have really nailed it). As for the battle music, the wild music and battling your rivals (which is new to the series) are very unique in their own way, and it does quite fit in the storyline in the game, and not just that, but you walking around the Kalos region, each city and route has their own music so listening to those music while traveling is quite nice, and personally, I just really love the music that the Pokemon series provides, makes the gamer really enjoy playing this game a whole lot more.

With that said about the Sound Effects and the Music, I have to give this an
8 out of 10, it could be better though but personally, not a whole lot, any Pokemon music is really fine, and as long the player enjoys it, this doesn't really matter a whole lot.

Addiction Level...

This game (and all other Pokemon games since Generation 1) is very addicting in deed, the reason is that you can spend hours upon hours playing this game and in a way, you just don’t want to stop playing and if you’re away from your 3DS for doing something else, you’ll probity thinking “I can’t wait till I can play on my 3DS so I can play some Pokemon”, that is what makes these games highly addictive, because all that you can do with them and with those Pokemon, you can train them, and battle against other trainers, or just walk around the region just for the fun of it, it’s these games personally makes it very addictive in a way, and now with more features added into this game such as Pokemon Amie and Super Training (which I mentioned more below under “Depth” ), this makes a whole lot harder to put your 3DS down, it’s just that so addictive.

So with that all said, I have to give this game a
7 out of 10, It's not really that addicting, especially after future Pokemon games were released, but with it being a Pokemon game, they can be quite addicting though.

The Storyline...

The storyline goes like in the other games, you start out in your hometown (which in this game, it’s Vaniville Town), and you start out with one Pokemon, and you travel along the region (which is Kalos) to capture wild Pokemon and battle against other trainers and battle against gym leaders to gain badges and if you happen to collect 8 of them, you can go onto the Pokemon League and battle against the Elite Four and then the Champion to become the new Pokemon Champion, plus while trying to gain your Pokemon fame, you at the same time have to stop Team Flare (Which are your enemies in the game) and rescue a legendary Pokemon from their labs. But other than that, that is basically the story behind this game, kind of the same storyline as past games, but being in different regions which makes them all different in a way.

But the thing that really killed it though.... THE BLAND STORYLINE AND NO POST-GAME. You know, after playing Black & White as well as Black 2 & White 2, I figure that Game Freak would of had an outstanding Kalos storyline by the time X & Y was released, but I was dead wrong, and don't get me started with Post-Game, Like after you become champion in the Kalos region.... That's it, nothing else after that.

I give the story part a
3 out of 10, would of been better if it wasn't for the bland storyline and the absent of a Post Game.

Depth...

Just like in the past Pokemon games, this also have a lot of depth in them as well, like traveling into different cities/towns, using a lot of Pokemon, which in the new Generation VI, you got like a total of 718 different Pokemon (69 new Pokemon added in the series) to choose from. Also starting in this game (and X as well), you now have an option of customizing your character however you want it with clothing shops known as “Boutiques” around Kalos so you really don’t look the same while you’re collecting your gym badges and defeating the champion, so personally, this introduction of customizing really does a whole lot. Plus this game also introduce two new mini-games known as Pokemon Amie which is a little mini-game where you feed your Pokemon poke puffs and play a couple games with it as well so that way, your Pokemon can get attracted to a whole lot more before, and Super Training where you train your Pokemon to boosted up its stats without battling other Pokemon.

I have to give the depths a perfect
10 out of 10, the reason why is that is what makes a Pokemon game very unique, the stuff you can possibly do in these games, even just in one game like this of an example, there is a whole lot to do in the region, such as explore the area, battle with anyone, or just find something to do with your Pokemon, either way, there is like hours of fun ahead of you once you play this game, try it out for yourself.

Difficulty / Gameplay...

As for the difficulty, just like every other Pokemon entries, it can be quite difficult to get used to the controls, but overtime, you'll get used to it, but once I got used to it, it was quite easy, but then I have start playing Y, since I remember all the things I have done in X, I know on what to do and it is quite easy. In this game, it gets harder the farther you go in the same (or in this case, the more gym badges you collect), and the Elite Four and the Champion can be quite hard if you don’t know a good strategy on how to face them and if you lose, you have to start over and face them 5 again, but the more you practice, the more better you become and the more likely you’ll become the new Pokemon Champion of Kalos.

For the Gameplay, they have done a whole lot with the brand new 3-dimensional movement, instead of moving 4 directions, you can now move in 8 directions, and for other parts of the gameplays, you can also, go fast with the brand new roller-skates (using the circle pad), using a bike (the fastest way you can travel in my opinion), or just simply just walking (using the d-pad), either way you put it, it has a smooth control and when you battle your opponents, just like in Generation IV and V, you can use the touch-screen for easy access for your attacks rather than selecting the moves by control (which you still can do though if you prefer it that way).

For the Difficulty and Gameplay, I have to give it an
7 out of 10 because it is pretty easy if you’re used to it although it will get quite hard the later on you play the game which is pretty typical for a Pokemon game and the controls for the game functions quite well with all the different things you can do.

Overall...

Overall, in this game, this game has became one of my least favorite game in the series, it's nothing to do with the gameplay, or the graphics, or the sound and music, or anything else, but to be honest, it was the Storyline that was a complete letdown combined with a low Addiction Level, especially after the release of Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire.

So, overall, I got to give this game a
7.6 out of 10 for being a quite a mediocre game in the core series, but you shouldn't really judge on my opinion on the game, I know there is quite a few people out there that does love X & Y, and I agree with that, a lot of people has their preferred Pokemon game, just like me with Black & White. It wasn't the Gameplay, the Graphics, the Sound/Music, the Depths, and the Difficulty that was bad, I felt like they were a whole lot better than some of the previous Pokemon entries, but it was both the Storyline and the Addiction Level that completely killed this game, and why I only gave it a 7.8 out of 10.

SuperGustafson9 : I'm like the same way almost with Alpha Sapphire / Omega Ruby, I have already pre-ordered both games at GameStop, and I am in deed ready to pick it up as soon as it's released.

Dude, I love this, its almost as good as my review of X. You didn't add in anything new to spice up the review, bug you put a heck of a lot of details into every single category. Heck, for me, its rare to just put two paragraphs per category, but for some, you have done more. You have done an amazing job with this. I never played Y aside for a few times at the Nintendo Store in NYC, but I'm assuming I love X as much as you love Y?
