Last year, Chris Davis was viewed as one of the best power hitters in history, and for most of last season was expected to break the record for home runs in a season without steroids. He went on to hit 53 Home Runs and 138 RBI's. He was an instant star with Hall of Fame potential.

However.

This morning, Davis had tested positive for amphetamines, which are performance enhancing drugs. This is actually the 2nd time that he had tested positive for these drugs and as a result was slapped with a 25 game suspension, and will not play again until next season, unless the Orioles make it to the ALCS.

What are your thoughts? This obviously isn't as big as A-Rod, but still a high profile player who is now almost obviously on steroids.

He was suspended for the use of Adderall without procuring a league therapeutic use exception (Adderall is allowed under the Substance Abuse Policy to treat ADD/ADHD, which Davis apparently "suffers" from.)

This is nothing.

There are around 120 TUE's in MLB today, almost all of which are used to treat ADD/ADHD.

The only reason Davis was suspended was because he failed to get the exception for himself.

He just never applied for one apparently, because they are piss easy to get if you actually have the conditions. And even if he doesn't, ADD and ADHD are so easy to fake, that it is more concerning that Davis didn't go to the effort.

legacyme3 :

So what you are saying is... Davis is a moron... interesting.

Hes the baltimore player that came out of nowhere to hit a crapload of homeruns last season, right? He played for the rangers before that, right? He was just ok with them if Im thinking of the right person.

Its always really suspect when a player comes out of nowhere and explodes onto the scene.

Who else is taking the drug?

Yes, he is a moron. And yes, he is the same player who hit a crapton of home runs last year.

As for who else takes Adderall... I couldn't really tell you. Specific players aren't generally announced unless in the case of a wellness violation. It is part of the doctor/patient confidentiality that all practicing doctors abide by. The only reason any negative cases are announced at all like this, is because of a breach of trust by the player in question.

There are 120 cases in MLB, correct? Now there are 25 players on a major league roster, and 40 on a 40 man roster.

25*30=750
40*30=1200

120 cases means on any team's given 25 man, active roster. It's possible up to 16% of all active MLB players take the drug legally, and in accordance with MLB's rules. (which means that every team has an average of 2-4 players who take the drug, if we accept that 120 cases in MLB means the active 25 man roster.)

120 cases means on any team's given 40 man roster, it's possible up to 10% of all active players on team's 40 man rosters take the drug legally, and in accordance with MLB's rules. If the announcement has to do with 40 man rosters, then it's not a stretch to say that each team has between 2 and 6 players who are under the exemption.

It's primarily used to combat ADD/ADHD, but is also used to heighten the focus of ballplayers, outside of combating the "disability".

Odds are, your team, just like my team, or zander's team has 3 or 4 guys like this, who take a drug like Adderall legally. Do they have ADD/ADHD? That may or may not be the case. But under the current Substance Abuse Policy, they are going through the proper channels to use what is a minor performance enhancing drug.
