Did you think the massacre at the airport in Modern Warfare went beyond what is acceptable in a video game? It gave you the option to skip the mission, so I would say that the game stayed within its limits, but what do you think?

I don't get exactly what's so bad about it. Grand Theft Auto went beyond this ages ago.

What massacre? I don't have the game could you tell us more about it and what happened exactly?

Once you got a gun in a game, there are no more unacceptable limits cause your already shooting and killing people. So anything goes

From what I've gathered, there's a mission where you're a terrorist in a airport killing civilians.

Though I love some of the controversy with it.

Americans shooting the s*** out of middle eastern people is A OK, but if it was the other way around then it would be bad.

Oh wah wah, go have a cry. It's a game for crying out loud.
You don't hear me b****ing about games where they have you kill rabbits do you?
I mean it's even an achievment in some game I heard, kill a rabbit, get achievement.
It's no different in my opinion. It's like JS says, once you get a gun in a game all bets are off.
How is this different to murdering everyone in Megaton in Fallout 3?
Optional mission? Screw that, I'm playing every mission.

(Please note, I don't have the game yet, but to me it would be the same if I did)

i agree with xfighter, mainly because video games are made in western country's, you always get it from a western soldiers' point of view, i think it's refreshing that you can watch it from another perspective.

and indeed,if you go and condemn that, didn't gta already stomp the road for massacring a whole town and getting away while you are emptying your machine gun on chasing cops(ahh, good times )?

Okay, this is what happens:

You are an undercover hitman for a Russian warlord, we'll say, named Makarov. You're with him finding a potential time to kill him. To have him gain your trust, you'll have to kill American civilians in a Russian airport.

I won't get too far, as it will spoil the ending.

I have NO idea why this would be going too far. It's a game, a war game. I can't think of any justifiable reason for anyone to skip that mission if they're even playing MW2. Like xfighter said, why would it be more disgusting to kill Americans than to kill Russians and Muslims?

One should just think of them the same as any of the other npcs.
Cannon fodder. Or if you prefer, for that mission it's "collateral damage".

If one has to think of it in real world terms (and I don't know why people do when it's just a game) then one just has to keep in mind that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few in this case.
Kill a few civvies so that you can kill someone who will kill many more people.

I didnt think they went too far, the No Russian level was a big part of the story line.. and the fact they gave you a choice to skip this level at the beginning is good too.

I don't care, GTA already gone this.

Also so what if you can skip a mission ?

Its more fun to play everything .

Even if the mission is hard , its still fun .

well like someone said before "grand theft auto went beyond this". you kill can kill innocent people all the time. the thing that will push it to the edge is if your alowwed to kill kids. also what was messed up is that people should get off video games' bussiness in violence. i bet you there are more violent things one the net or sexual than there are violent video games. so no.. COD:MW2 didnt go too far.

My friend showed me this and I could barely believe they got away with it. Games are censored all the time for relatively minor things and something like this makes it through? While America is going nuts over terrorism? The scene IS very disturbing but censorship sucks so I'm glad they left it in the game.

the level was great btw,i love the way you do it by just walking slow and calmly

Yes, yes, yes, it went waaaaay too far and I haven't even played it. Killing guys with guns trying to blow your head off is one thing. Killing civilians is another. For all those who say "Grand Theft Auto already did it," that doesn't make it right. That's not how it works in real life. You can't get away with something just because somebody has before. It's still wrong whether one person or a hundred people do it. It's a plus that Infinity Ward made the mission optional, but putting it in their in the first place was a bad idea.

I doubt you'd care if it was american soldiers shooting upon civilians. I think people with brains actually know that it's a game and it doesn't influence you.

You obviously haven't heard the stories of criminals inspired by GTA. Video games do influence people. Sometimes, often times, it builds up slowly and subtly, so that you get so used to it, that by the time there's a noticeable change, you won't realize it.

Anyone that gets influenced by those games are already mentally unstable so it most likely would have happened anyway.
It didn't go too far, I've played this level and you don't even have to kill any civilians if you don't want to.
The people you're with actually do it themselves.
