The various coloured boxes are supposed to give you certain capabilities needed to obtain stars within the level. In their inactive form, they appear as coloured, cube-shaped, ?translucent silhouettes which allow you to just jump right through them and don't give you the required power-up. The game states that you need to activate switches in the level for the activated boxes to appear (the activated boxes are fully shaded in the colour they are given and they give you the power-up if you jump from underneath them). So I activate all the switch(es) and the inactive boxes are STILL there! I look at YouTube videos of Super Mario 64 walkthroughs and they follow the same steps as I do yet it works perfectly fine for them and not me. I can't even get enough stars to proceed to the next section of the game because of this issue. If someone could please help it would be HIGHLY appreciated. Thanks! ?

Did you really activate the switches? Double check and save afterwards. It should appear. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice but I am unable to make use of it as whenever I try to save states or load states in the 1964 version, the game instantly freezes and crashes. The save/load states work fine in the Mupen64Plus version but I have applied the instructions you have given me and it STILL doesn't work. Do you know of any other solution to fix this problem?

Cybern*****123 : Um have you tried using the game's save feature itself first(as it offers to do after earning a Star or Bowser Key, remember?) rather than just using the "Save State"? Maybe that will help...

Does the game still save every time aside from the caps? It isn't like you have to start the entire game over when you quit out, right? Anyways, I'd just try again to go into a level with that cap that you unlocked, and use it right away, and save it there. Otherwise, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working, and it might be something outside of the emulator that's failing.

Cybern****123: I agree with the others: You probably didn't save your game. Either that, or the emulator's sucking. Never happened to me though...
