Hello everyone, today I will be reviewing a popular, new pokemon game for the Nintendo 3DS. Pokemon X was released on October 12th 2013 and it lets you capture 70 new pokemon as well as explore the new Kalos region which is somewhat based off of France in its theme. This game is also a big step up from prior pokemon games such as black and white, or even games from the gameboy because of the revolutionary 3D graphics in the game. This was the first time it was put into a pokemon game before, so you can only imagine some of the reactions people must've had in response. Nonetheless, this game has lots to offer and explore, so without further delay, lets get on to the review.

Graphics: 10

As I said, this is the first time a pokemon game that has ever been 3D before, but other than that, there is also an extreme amount of detail put into everything in the game, the cities are all very well designed and lifelike rather than flat and pixellated. Pokemon games in general have always had really good graphics, but what sets this game apart from the others is the fact that everything in the game looks so lucid and real. Its almost as if you can just reach into the screen and just grab it. Another impressive feature to notice is that all the trainer and pokemon sprites look 3 dimensional, even when the 3D isn't on. One thing that caught my attention more than anything else were the graphics for the move animations. Just about every move in the game is followed by a vivid, lifelike animation, like the move flamethrower for instance, with the 3D on or off, it actually looks like a trail of fire is burning the other pokemon which was a huge plus for me, and it actually made me look forward to battling trainers, gym leaders, and even wild battles a little more. Overall, this is easily one of the game's best features, just taking one look at some screenshots of Pokemon X and Y gameplay was enough for me to go out and buy the game for myself. So with all the graphics has going for it, I scored them a perfect ten.

Sound: 8

One thing that a lot of people weren't all that crazy about for Pokemon X and Y was the music. Honestly though, it isn't half bad, but just like any pokemon game, after being in the same area for a while, the music can get rather dull and repetitive, even still though, there are ways to getting around that. I liked some of the music for the gym and elite 4 battles a bit, but I really think they should've done like a remix of prior pokemon battle music just to keep it interesting and appealing to the pokemon fans. Even though the music isn't downright amazing, it is still somewhat decent although you may or may not agree, you will just have to play it for yourself and see if it appeals to you. Honestly though, I wish they hadn't changed the battle music, I wish they had kept it the same and maybe just changed the sound up, but t hat's just me. As far as actual sounds go in the game, the ones in Pokemon X are rather impressive, every move has its own sound effect after being used, for example, if you burn or paralyze a pokemon, there is a scorching, or buzzing sound that follows that status condition as well as every other move in the game, which makes it all the more enjoyable to play. Overall though, I don't think the music is as memorable as some of the older pokemon games, but aside from that, the sound and music of Pokemon X are both very exceptional, and they shouldn't dissuade you from getting the game which is the reason why I scored them an eight.

Addictiveness: 10

This game is packed with stuff for you to do and keep you busy, once you have defeated the Elite Four, there is still a lot of other things you can do to pass the time. You can work on the pokedex via catching pokemon on either wonder trade or through GTS, or through pokebank. You can also do other activities like trade or battle with people you find on the PSS, raise the happiness of your pokemon via pokemon amie, and also train them via super training which works like EV training, but you earn EVs through mini games instead. And as always, you can breed pokemon, and hunt for shinys using the masuda method, pokeradar, or the new chain fishing method, and another new feature they added is wonder trade which allows you to trade any pokemon in your boxes with someone else's pokemon, thus it is completely random, and there is no telling what you could get. You can also search pokemon that you are missing or want using the GTS which is relatively easy to use. Overall though, this game has a lot of things to do once you beat the Pokemon League, not to mention you can catch the legendary pokemon in game afterwards. This game is easily one of the most addicting pokemon games I have ever played just because of the sheer amount of stuff there is to do, because with most of the other pokemon games, you beat the elite four and then catch the legends and you have pretty much done all you can by that point, but this game really goes above and beyond with what you can do after becoming the champion. To wrap it up, Pokemon X has a ton of extra content for you to enjoy once you beat the game which is why it gets a perfect ten in this category.

Story: 6

The story in this game is basically the same as always, you start off in Vaniville town, pick your starter, and then you set off on your journey to become the new champion of the region. You still have to beat all eight gyms, and then conquer the Pokemon League, so as you can see, Its not really any different than any other pokemon game in that aspect. Arguably, the only different part might be the villain/antagonist and the way he ties in with the plot, but I won't say anything else about it for obvious reasons. Even though the story isn't anything special, the whole point of the game is to train and collect pokemon to defeat the gyms as well as the Elite Four, so the story itself shouldn't be the main thing that determines whether or not this is a game worth buying because there are plenty of other great features that make up for this game's repetitive and simple story. Nonetheless, the plot of this game gets a six due to its simplicity as well as the fact that it is the same pokemon story we should all be used to by now.

Depth: 10

As I said before, this game has a lot to offer content wise, but as for training and beating the game, it shouldn't take very long, most likely two to three weeks or less, depending on the type of player you are, and also how well you train. For comparison, this game shouldn't take much longer than any other pokemon game, sure there's some extra stuff here and there, but the plot and concept are still the same as always, so you really shouldn't sweat it when it comes to length. After beating the game, you will be taken back to your home town, and then you will be able to catch the legendary pokemon in the game, which includes: Mewtwo, Zygarde, as well as one of the legendary birds, depending on which starter you picked. (If Chespin, then Articuno, if Fennekin, then Zapdos, if Froakie, then Moltres) After beating the Elite 4, you will also be allowed to take A train to Kiloude City from the Lumiose Station where you can check your pokemon's IVs, battle one of your rivals, and also collect battle points to by items at the Battle Maison. Even after doing that, you can still work on the Pokedex, IV breed, EV train, and battle/trade with friends as well as wonder trade and collect shiny pokemon. Now that I have recently acquired pokemon bank, I will be playing this game more than ever because now I can transfer my pokemon from White 2 and then train and prepare them for competitive battling in Pokemon X So, as you can plainly see, there are plenty of things for you to do after beating the game which is why I scored the depth a ten.

Difficulty: 5

Honestly, this game isn't very difficult at all, at least not any more so than any regular pokemon game. In fact, in many aspects, it is actually easier. All I will say is to take it like you would any other pokemon game, it is essential to build a balanced team, and also to train them well, even though this game may not be extremely difficult, it will only be harder if you don't put in the extra time to train your pokemon properly. You don't need perfect IV over leveled pokemon to be able to make it through the game, but it is always best to take your time and train them a good as you possibly can. There are a few little puzzles for some of the gyms, but I don't think it is anything to stress over, plus I am sure there are guides out there for people who have also had trouble with them, but other than that, the game itself is pretty straightforward. For the most part, you can get through this game without having any prior experience with pokemon games. The only gripe I have with this game is that I wish they made your rivals as well as the gyms and the elite four a little more challenging because they weren't really much of a challenge if you trained well, but that's just my word on the matter.

Control wise, it is pretty simple, you move using the control pad while holding the a button, and you will use your running shoes. You can skate buy using the control stick and hold it down in the desired direction you would like to skate in. For easy use, you can press register on items you use a lot and then press the Y button and the arrow to use that item, you can do this for up to four items. So for the most part, Pokemon X and Y really aren't any more difficult than any other pokemon game, and the controls and actual gameplay are pretty much the same. If you have problems though, it would probably be best to check the threads for this game, otherwise, you can always use the internet for help. So as far as the overall difficulty goes, I scored them a 5 because you really don't have to be an expert to play through the game.

Altogether this game is really amazing, and having owned it since October, I haven't put it down since because there is just so much to do. Pokemon X is really a great game all around, and I don't think I have ever liked a pokemon game quite this much. I definitely recommend getting it if you are into pokemon and also for those of you that have followed pokemon all the way through and played all of the games, but in all honesty, this game is for anyone, it is really a great buy and will make a great addition to any 3DS game collection. The addictiveness and depth of this game, combined with all of its other great features are what will make it worth your time. I cannot wait to see to see what they have in store for us with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire!

That's a purty decent review you got thur. Pokemon X is my favorite Pokemon game, to be honest. It does a lot of things both right and wrong, imo. The things it does right are awesome (like the graphics and Mega Evolutions), but I felt it lacked depth compared to other Pokemon games (I feel that this has been going downhill somewhat since Platinum). Pokemon G/S/C and Emerald has fantastic aftergames, due to the second region in the former, and Pokemon Contests and the Battle Frontier in the latter. Pokemon X's aftergame feels positively wimpy compared to those, despite the number of Pokemon that can be found and caught.

Pokemon X is, more than a regular Pokemon game, a love letter to Pokemon itself. It has lots of spunk and style, and one of the best stories so far, but sadly failed to capitalize on it in important ways (most importantly, the absence of Pokemon Contests). The inclusion of these would have been a home run for the games. But perhaps Nintendo was holding out on us to build hype for the Ruby and Sapphire remakes. I believe that this is the case.

Pokemon X felt meh for me. Probably because I was bored of the series already after playing hours of Emerald and Soul Silver but even so it just didn't feel right.

I agree the graphics are really nice and are a huge step up from what Black and White were trying to be, maybe not a ten out of ten because games like Bravery Default and the Resident Evil game look much better.

As for your section on sound, I agree the music isn't amazing and yes it "just keeps it interesting and appealing to the pokemon fans" going to show how generic it is. The soundtrack just had that, well it's trying to be good, feel for me. However the sound effects do fit the series addition well.

I disagree on the addictiveness but that is just my opinion, I didn't enjoy this game. Which also means I'm against your title choice.

Now the depth, this is something this game didn't have much of. Yes there are a lot of features but most of them have been recycled and made easier to use (online trading and battles etc.). There isn't much of an after game and there are only so many pokemon you can catch considering you only have X or Y. The IV and EV training is just made up of short uninspired minigames which become more of a pain than battling thousands of wild zubats.
As you even said yourself the game isn't that long and it only takes 1-2 weeks or less to beat (not in one sitting) the game is the game and the actual game takes a huge chunk out of the depth it can offer.
Even the design of the game is lazy and linear. Caves are usually 1 or 2 pathed (even victory road is easy), some routes are just a straight line. The towns are small, even the "huge" Lumiose City is pretty much empty other than having a few buildings with mini games or just random NPCs that talk to you about stuff irrelevant.
Yes you can explore any where you want to on the map but the thing is, the locations are so small and thin but there is so much of it.

Personally I'd give the depth 6. Crystal for the gameboy color had more to it than this. For me X and Y were advertisements for the new features and the new features made me buy the game. I'm disappoint in the actual game, but X and Y are still revolutionary games in the pokemon series. I can't wait to see how they can expand the Hoenn region and imply all of the new stuff they added.

supernerd117 : Please clarify me on your use of the word "spunk", I can only think one thing when I see that and I'm sure it's not what you mean.

MechaMento : I mean pizazz or awesomeness. It puts its best foot forward with confidence, although the foot kinda has a limp.

I agreed with many things that you said. However, you did forget that it is not the first time for pokemon to be in fully 3d environment, as you forgotten about Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness, but it is the first time for Gamefreak to create a pokemon games in its 3d environment, since that Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness was made by Genius Sonority Inc. upon agreement from GameFreak and Nintendo to create this for Nintendo Gamecube.
