100 years ago, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia in the aftermath of Archduke Ferdinand's assassination, setting off a chain of events that would lead to the bloodiest war of all time up to that point. The wars effects would later help trigger WWII.

For me, the war hits home particularly due to my family history. My great-great-grandfather fought in the war, where he was captured and executed. His son, My great-grandfather, would fight with Tito's partisans in WWII, and would later die in a concentration camp, but that's another story.

I just wanted to know how you guys are remembering the fallen, if you are. For me, it'll be attending church to memorialize my great-great-grandfather and his son, who gave their lives to defend their country.

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the "war to end all wars"? I will keep all those troops who died in my thoughts, no matter what country or what they believed in, they all had families and were human beings. They deserve respect, on our side or not.

I knew about this from the news and my history class. My great great granddad was an engineer in the war but he didn't go out in the front-lines. He just repaired machinery. On my mums side my other great great grandad died in the war. So I will be thinking of him. Lots of ceremonies going on this year.
