Today I was Skateboarding and realized I was only 1 year away from being at the legal age of driving. So, How hard is a driving exam? Is it difficult? Is it Easy? Did you fail your First one? Or is the exam nothing to worry about?

Driving a car is easy, yes. If you can drive a car in a video game, then you can drive a car in real life. Just takes a few minutes to get use to the difference.

As for the test... well, I take it you live in Boston, and I don't know much about Boston, but when I took my test, the tester was a jerk, so I actually failed my first driving test because I took a right turn at 15 instead of 10, because he gets scared. ( another worker at the DMV told me that after he failed me ). I passed my 2nd time, though.

As long as you follow the rules, you will be fine, and should not have anything to worry about.

I would say that it is relatively easy. People find it to have varying degrees of difficulty, and there is also the factor of whether you are going to be driving an automatic or manual car. I find manual cars to be exceptionally difficult to drive, whereas I have a rather simple time driving automatic cars. However, that also varies from person to person. It takes some people many, many tries to get used to something, and it could just be too difficult for them to even get their license. You will find out when the time comes. I still have yet to take my exam, but I should be able to pass once I go to take it soon. My friends passed, and they seem to be worse at driving than I am, but it really depends on everything that happens during the test. My friend got a sexist instructor, and he failed her, but my other friend passed with that same instructor, yet he drove significantly worse than she did. Again, it all depends. Good luck.

Its just the same like anything else. Have someone practice driving with you, whether it be your parents or an older friend or relative. The more you practice, the better you'll be at it. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be just fine when you take the test.

I remember when I took my driving test, I almost received a perfect score. The only thing I did wrong was it took me a bunch of tries when I was parallel parking. I kept putting it in drive, then reverse, then drive, then reverse...you get the picture. But I will warn you on one thing: DO NOT GO OVER THE SPEED LIMIT! It is an automatic failure.

I didn't mean to scare you if I have, but good luck

In the UK people only have automatic cars if they are disabled, otherwise you are expected to take the manual test. It just takes some practice. The hardest thing is getting in the habit of constantly checking for hazards.
In the uk they dock points for wasting fuel and stuff too, they want drivers to be green.

Here in Florida if you take the drivers ed class in person, you don't have to do the actual driving test but you still have to do the written stuff. If I can offer any advice it is to LOOK OUT FOR COPS, if your going to speed that is (this is for when you have your license). I just got a ticket a few days ago and it was 250 dollars!!!!!!! it was 56 in a 40 zone

It is easy to drive a car, it is just other people that makes it harder. Living here in Atlanta, I know the pain of having to drive in horrible traffic with idiots who have no idea what they are doing. Driving a car is pretty simple when you get used to it, don't worry, you'll do fine with driving. And like haunter said, get really good insurance and you'll be fine.

It's sort of like what Barathemos said. It's incredibly easy on a secluded road with no one around you, but the thing with driving is that you have to constantly be on the lookout for what other people are doing as well. You have to be ready to slow down if someone is driving like a drunk idiot, and you have to just constantly be aware of EVERYTHING. But once you get used to it, it really isn't too bad.

I just recently got my permit for segment 1 of driving and I personally think driving easy. The worst part is the backseat driving when your parent's are in the car and I have a personal phobia of driving in parking lots. I think the worst part is just not knowing your way around, because I personally never looked at my surroundings while my parents drove so I need to learn my way around my town pretty fast. Good luck though

thenumberone :  I'm glad I read this post, because I was just about to say: "As long as you get to drive an automatic...."  I honestly didn't know that about cars and driving in the UK!  You learn something every day, huh?

bb1, driving isn't all that hard, but when you first learn to operate a car, you'll likely be pretty nervous.  It will SEEM hard and you might even want to give up in frustration a few times.  However, just keep this in mind: Once you got it... you have it.  It becomes second nature and you start driving without even thinking about what your hands and feet and eyes are doing.  And when you become accustomed to your daily routes, you don't even have to think about what turns and such to make.  Your mind will start to wander and you'll reflect on your day... then boom... you'll be at your destination not having even remembered taking all the right turns. lol

So don't worry!  Keep the future in mind!

What I'm going to say is just my personal experience. As some of you know, I don't have my driving license. I tried so hard to get it but, sadly, I've been completely broken by the driving inspector at the end of my third attempt. I failed four times at my exam, the fourth time being the bottom of the dark endless pit. My teacher tried to cheer me up but I was still haunted by that failure. I thought it was the end of this quest, I was about to get my driving license and unchain my wings. So yeah, I don't have the driving license but I remember what my teacher said.

"Your driving skill are really good. I don't know why you failed this time."

Maybe what we say about judging people by their charisma and their personality during an exam is true. Maybe that story of quota is not a lie. I'm highly sure it had something to do with my straight personality at that time and the inspector didn't like that. That is probably why he wrote "intervention" and completely destroyed a man's hopes. Although, I'm sorry, the inspector is certainly important and superior but he has no reason to judge a person by its charisma and personality. The driving exam is technically the end of the line and your skills, what you did learn during these past weeks, are shown to this person. This is what he or she has to judge, not you.

So, here I am a few years later, stuck, trying to find another way out of this mess. I'll eventually retry, now that I became someone else. I'm no longer the weak and hopeless man. Inside of me, there's a flame of determination and frustration. When I see most of the drivers in my country who, after years of driving, pass by a single "stop", a white line on the road yes... I let you guess my reaction. Keep in mind I don't have the driving license but my teacher said my driving skills were really good. I'm not trying to be cocky, I'm just saying I can do way better than these people. At least, I can see a damn white line on the floor. Maybe it's not white enough, maybe it lacks of spotlights or we need to use glowing paint. I don't know, that's just my opinion.

So after my personal experience (are you still alive? Good ^^ ), I'm going to answer your question, man. Driving a car is hard at the beginning, like any other thing. You mentioned skateboarding for example. It requires experience. Experience that you get as long as you practice. You fail at some tricks at the beginning, it's perfectly normal. Unless you have the skateboarding flowing in your veins (or you are the son of Tony Hawks), you will fail over and over again. You'll make some mistakes. But don't despair: mistakes and lost battles make you stronger
