apparently when satoshi tajiri presented the idea of pokemon to nintendo he thought for sure that they would reject it due to how "inferior" the original nintendo game boy was at that time due to it's level of graphics...... How different would everyones lives be if pokemon never got put into a franchise and was just an idea in the back of satoshi tajiris mind? anyone care to say anything?

I enjoyed video games back then but not as much as I did when I got hooked on pokémon. It really got me into RPGs, especially monster raising ones.

Everyone's lives would be boring and just plain miserable. It was my favorite game series growing up.

Some of the best ideas ever have been rejected only to become the most popular and best in the world.

If there was no pokemon, there probably wouldn't be a few other shows that seem to copy it's idea with monsters. Other then that I don't think it has played a major role in gaming really. Not saying the games suck but if you wanted to find an icon which revolutionized gaming it would have to be Mario, Sonic, Doom, Zelda, Final Fantasy and many more... but pokemon wouldn't be on the list. I'm talking about actual console games not handheld.

If they could make a Pokemon game in the form of something like Zelda / Final Fantasy for a console then it could do really well and quite possibly be the icon for the new generation kinda like how Mario or Sonic were back in the day.

If we are talking about heldheld gaming... yea Pokemon owns big time But they need some console games to make a greater impact.

See, what would make a mark for them is if they made a 3d Pokemon game on console that uses the same game mechanics as the handheld ones.
They have 3d sprites for all the Pokemon so they would just need to make the towns, locations and npcs.
Imagine Pokemon XD if it had of been bigger with a different plotline.
Ah well, probally never going to happen.

Nothing to me, because you'd still have Digimon and Monster Rancher left.

Though in my opinion, if we never had a game like Civilization or Wolfenstein then it could have changed a bit in the gaming industry.

wait . .. omfg if there was no pokemon then there is no such thing as a rip-off . . . therefore no such thing as digimon or monster rancher . . . okay anyways back to the post Pokemon have really furthered the hand held gaming systems, because with out pokemon around then Nintendo most likely would have given up on the hand held systems therefore sony would have had much less need to create the psp . . .

You realize that Nintendo still would have had Mario and Zelda to continue with the Gameboy?

And Sony still would've continued the PSP even if Pokemon was never made.

Digimon (the device) was released the year before the first Pokemon game and Monster Rancher is more a rip-off of Digimon if anything.
Hell, Pokemon is a rip-off of games like Lufia (the main game was a normal RPG but you could collect "capsule monsters" to train and battle with) or even the Zoids games.
I think some of the early Shin Megami Tensei games also focused on monster capture and training.
Nintendo wouldn't have given up on handhelds without Pokemon, the Gameboy was out like 8-10 years before Pokemon was even made and was doing fine.
So I think that Pokemon in itself hasn't done too much.
Nintendo was working on their next handheld system, the Gameboy Color, before Pokemon even got hugely popular

If you call using a great gaming idea (RPG with 'pets' for battling) ripping off the first one then that's like saying sonic ripped off mario because they are both platform style games.
I do think that the gaming world would be fairly different without pokemon.
But I don't think the consoles that have come out would have changed.

without pokemon, i wouldn't have liked games. really, it's true. my brother was playing pokemon stadium and puzzle league. i got intrested on how a controller moved stuff on a screen. i quickly got intrest.

When nintendo made pokemon... I died a little inside.

Life would be better without pokemon, or any of ther other horrible incarnations that are similar.

that therefore means no mario due to the fact that his first appearence was in 1981 in donkey kong so what would you do then?
also pokemon cards,games,and shows all came out before digimon . . .soooooo how were they created first??????
