There is actually a backstory as to why Donkey Kong stole Pauline. So there is a game called Donkey Kong circus where you play as the ape himself juggling pineapples, dodging fireballs and balancing on a barrell. It is very easy to see why Donkey Kong would do something like that after playing or more likely just hearing about it. This game is very obscure and is on the Game and Watch.
