I just have to share what was probably the best moment of my week.

So, my mom just got a smartphone. I don't know if any of you remember that big moment when I finally decided to join the rest of the world last year and get one myself... but I remember the pain of learning how to use it.  My mom getting smartphone last week was an awesome step, and we've both been very excited about it.  I can send her pictures, and now she can text!

Well, today we were texting back and forth, and I was trying to tell her how to get apps on her phone, but she doesn't like all the typing to text, and doesn't really want to use the swipe method.  So I suggested using the microphone for the voice translation feature.  I HAVE to transcribe the conversation here, because I haven't laughed this hard in ages. I know my mom was being totally serious throughout this whole thing.

Enjoy.

Me: "Okay, so if you don't like texting, try hitting the microphone and then speaking. Sometimes it gets things wrong, but it does a pretty good job on my phone. If I want to say a lot, like now, I use the microphone and then go back and correct any mistakes by hand. I find it a lot quicker and easier."

Mom: "Yes speak now right now bob loblaw blah blah blah blah he doesn't work pizza hut"
(Knowing my mom, she was saying "This doesn't work!" and I have no idea about the rest... but I broke out laughing)

Me: "Oh my gosh!  I can't stop laughing!  I forgot to tell you that if you want to use punctuation just say the name of the symbol you want to use."

Mom: ", this isn't working very well"
(Notice the comma at the beginning and the lack of a period at the end. XD)

Me: "Oh my goodness.... I'm still laughing! "

Mom: "2 + 2 equals 5? E = mc2??"

Me: "You're getting better!"
(And at this point, I really don't know how the poor phone was translating past my laughter.)

Mom: "I had to get [name of little brother redacted] to show me how to get the microphone to work. That was hilarious. We tried it again and I was shocked at what it translated. Umm, not very nice. I think I'll stick to the slow hunt and peck method. (:"

Me: "Oh dear, I don't think mine has translated into something bad. lol"

Mom: "I don't have a smartphone.   I have a dirty phone."

Me: "Mom! This is the best text conversation I've ever had!"

Mom: "We are happy to entertain you."

Oh my god that's great That's what it was like trying to teach my grandparents how to use the iPads we got them. It's been 2 years and they can still only play Candy Crush and that's it.

steel_attacker :  I actually DID notice it as I was copying the conversation from my phone.  I was really shocked, and wondered if my mom was just a genius, or didn't know most people type it the other way around. lol  I'm surprised you picked up on that. haha

Oh my gawd... I actually had this happen to me the other day while I was driving. I had finally figured out how to text using my voice while driving... when my step-mom called me, I could not figure out why she was so mad. So, I checked my texts since I had to get off the interstate at a rest stop anyways, and then I realized why. XD It had called her some rather unpleasant names.
