Now let's be frank here, no one likes Kirby. *everyone points their guns* No seriously, we don't play Kirby games for Kirby, we play for BEAM kirby, FIRE kirby, PLASMA kirby. Regular old kirby gameplay consists of A) waiting for a boss to release something swallowable to attempt to throw back at him or B) looking for an ability, so I decided with my current Kirby/Megaman phase going on to count down my 10 favorites of the bunch. 10. Beam Kirby: Anyone whose heard of Kirby knows the beam form, Kirby always has his beam form on the game covers, title screens, and it's the first copy ability players can obtain not just here, but any other Kirby game. However, many love Super Star for the diversity of the abilities. In these console games, Kirby doesn't have just one attack per ability, instead he can pull off amazing moves and combos with his abilities. Beam is no exception, you can always shoot a laser in an arc regardless what game it is, and on consoles you can charge the beam for a powerful blast, do a cool spinny tornado thingy, jump and shoot downward, and even grab a small opponent, throwing him and shooting him in mid-air. Beam is always a classic, and its basic utility lands it on number 10. 9. Sword Kirby: Also knows respectably by many fans as the Link form for clear reasons, no matter which game you’re playing it has the same principles, slash whatever’s in front of you, and do a spinny slashy jump. Now to be honest I can never get the hang of sword, usually I take a bit of hits using it and would gladly pass it up for another ability, but it’s just the ways you use swords that astonish me. In Return to Dreamland many major boss fights end in a super sword onslaught. Throughout the series whenever Meta Knight challenges Kirby he will only fight if it’s a sword duel to the death! Swords also have similar cutting principles in some games to cutter, which helps solve many puzzles. But again, I can never get the hang of it :/ it’s my top 10 k? Be glad I put it on to begin with! 8. High Jump: When I first got the high jump ability I hated it. It’s always required in high elevating sections and I never jump the way I should, I just inflate trying to pull it off. Then there was the boss fight with Kracko in Nightmare in Dreamland, where the best way to reach the top is with High Jump. Now I didn’t have my ultra-uber ability at the time yet, so I decided to suck it up and learn to use the beaver house ability. I died once without the high jump, but upon getting the hang of the button pressing, I was soaring upward. I finally knew how to use this weapon of mass destruction, and believe it or not took down Kracko without getting hit ONCE. I realized the potential of the high jump, but sadly the ability is next to impossible to use in horizontal stages. It’s powerful, and when the cards are set its tight controls demonstrate skill and some darn fun when you learn how it’s used. 7. Suplex: Suplex is a very… how do I say, meh ability in some eyes. Some believe it to be outshined by fighter and it’s generally useless against mini-bosses. But like the High Jump it needs skill, a good setup, and I put it here because I’m good with it and it’s so much fun to use in gauntlets of enemies. Suplex, or throwback as it’s called in some games, uses a charging dash to go fast through stages. When you dash into a regular enemy, you chuck him into oblivion. And I mean you knock him so hard you send him to elder scrolls 4. You can use this grab to launch into other foes as well, and in super star you can pull awe inducing attacks of grabbing something and beating the crap outta it. But again, it IS useless on bigger enemies, but still freaking fun while it lasts. 6. Wheel: Wheel is another ability that needs setup, and in that setup it’s amazing to use. Wheel let’s Kirby go spinning around like… a wheel! You usually get one in sections where you need to out-speed a series of gaps or a switch of some kind that triggers obstacles. Wheel got a lot of it’s good rap in Super Star, where you could give player 2 the wheel and have Kirby ride him, player 2 would drive while player 1 shoots, I think… was it the other way around? And wheel played a big part in Revenge of Meta Knight. 5. Fire: Good old fire form, in original games it started with simply breathing fire. Then Super Star buffed it up along with many other abilities. Fire is used to burn fuses for cannons as well, leading to separate areas. In Super Star you could roll as a fireball and also dash forward as a fireball. Trust me, rolling forward and dashing are different. In Nightmare in Dreamland you could only breathe fire, but there was an ability called the burning ability that used the fireball dash. Guess you can call that a sub-ability. 4. Cutter: Everyone loves cutter, so the sheer fact I put it at 4 should tell you what the next 3 must be like. Cutter at its most basic form throws a boomerang knife of some sorts. Basically it’s long-range sword. Speaking of which, the console games let you do a close-range combo that even got its way into Smash Bros. Smash Bros is the defining point of what’s cool in Nintendo. Cutter boomerangs also go launching behind you if you jump over it when it comes back to you. Very dispensable, easy to use, and powerful. 3. Leaf: Now it may seem weird that I’d put a form like using a bush above throwing boomerang knives, but if you’ve played Triple Deluxe you know how OP the leaf is. Leaf shoots a bunch of vines above and around you. Seems simple enough, but let me ask you this… have you been using your block a lot? Blocking with leaf form is pretty much a god send, I dunno what it is about games where plants have tons of defense, but I don’t care I LUV IT. If you’re fighting the final boss for the first time, I recommend leafing it. You protect yourself from virtually all attacks. If there’s an attack you can’t block, it’s probably obviously a giant laser that you’d clearly try avoiding. Block, vine shoot, rinse and repeat. 2. Plasma: I cannot stress enough about how useful Plasma or Spark is. In handhelds where each ability has only one attack, it’s known as spark, and it covers you in electricity. This clearly is useful for guarding yourself from anything that tries to jump into you, and is amazing for close range boss fighting. On games where we call it plasma however… HOOO BOY. Now traditionally it seems pathetic at first, shooting a tiny rapid fire laser. But soon you learn the more you move around the more it charges. Soon you’re spazzing about gaining power, enough sometimes to repel enemies that get to close to you. You can upgrade to a bigger lazer, sparks, a plasma beam, and a ball of pure energy. Naturally boss fights are easy when you quickly move about and blast them when they’re open. Some players even commit to trying NOT to use this form due to its power. With a descr top it!? None other than my favorite ability in the franchise… 1. Star Rod: The star rod is the ability that is used in the final boss level and it totally kills them and there’s really no other way to explain goodbye. … lol, how about we have some honorable mentions and THEN move on with number 1? Yo-Yo: Amazing range and power, only in one game though. UFO : Frustrating to get and a bit too OP Stone: I can’t use stone for the life of me Ice: Weaker than fire, but freezes small enemies and projectiles to launch into opponents. Fighter: You can use SO MANY COMBOS And now, my personal favorite copy ability is… Tornado: Let me tell you how I met tornado… It was an early level in Nightmare in Dreamland, I saw that spinning top enemy and swallowed, obtaining an unstoppable ability. I would fly through everything, timing the tornado, knowing when I’d be vulnerable, backing off, and then using tornado again. I loved this ability, but then there was an obstacle I couldn’t get past. Then I found it again 2 levels later in butter building… and I lost it. Then came the time of glory, I unlocked the ability room in Yogurt Yard! I would beat every level, backtrack JUST for tornado, and then start the level. I didn’t care about secret areas, I just used my tornado to whip through everything heading to the end of the game. You know how powerful it is? You are invincible while using tornado. You kill anything you fly through, and you can travel unbelievably fast. It takes time to learn to control, but once you can you can fly through the narrowest of corridors. If you time it right, you can fly through a boss, back off in time to un-tornado, and then tornado through the boss again, doing immense damage each time. Tornado is, and will always be, my favorite ability in the series. Sheesh man, you really put a lot into this. I agree with this in a way, but my top 3 would probably have to be Fire, then Star, then Plasma. |

I've only played 3 Kirby games so far but I have little-somewhat knowledge of Kirby. If I can list my top 10 favorite copy abilities, then I passed the Kirby test. 1-UFO 2-Sword 3-Fire 4-Laser 5-Bomb 6-Fighting/Kung-Fu 7-Bomberaang 8-Wheel 9-Lightning 10-Spikes How did I do? 1-UFO 2-Sword 3-Fire 4-Laser 5-Bomb 6-Fighting/Kung-Fu 7-Bomberaang 8-Wheel 9-Lightning 10-Spikes How did I do? |

ghostfishy : knowing is only half the battle but yeah, it's a good list. Really mine is based on my own preference. Tornado is a weapon of mass destruction when in the proper hands... but yeah, it's a good list. Really mine is based on my own preference. I absolutely love playing any Kirby game on any console! I can't really pick any ten, but here's 10 moves that I enjoyed using, in no specific order: 1. Fighting ability in Kirby: Super Star for the Super Nintendo - the same abilities he kicked butt with in Super Smash Bros. 2. UFO ability that first appeared in Kirby's Adventure for the NES - this would probably be one of my favorites. 3. Sword ability that first appeared in Kirby's Adventure for the NES - he was quite noble with this one. 4. Flaming sword ability in Kirby: The Crystal Shards for the N64 - just walking around with it seemed deadly. 5. Tank Robot ability in Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Wii - probably the coolest one of all. 6. Ninja ability in Kirby: Super Star for the Super Nintendo - he could stick to walls...that was awesome. 7. Fireworks ability in Kirby: The Crystal Shards for the N64 - pretty cool looking while taking enemies out. 8. Crash ability in Kirby's Adventure for the NES - instant death, but very limited. 9. Missile Launcher ability in Kirby: The Crystal Shards for the N64 - kind of like a spread gun, but with missiles. 10. Dual Lightsaber ability in Kirby: The Crystal Shards for the N64 - he did a cool spin with every attack. 1.
