You see, my friend, juuldude and I don't even need Google Translate. (Which gives the wrong Afrikaans translations half the time---I checked ) We can speak the language(s) ourselves, but prefer to use English because that way, everybody can understand us.

It's called Afrikaans...

It is derived from Dutch, because the Dutch people who came here and colonized this country centuries ago started making up a language of their own and then my ancestors (and a lot of people's South African ancestors) started speaking it, too.

Oh yeah! And before you make a statement, make sure it is correct, please. And like I told Slythion, if my reply is correcting your statement, or an opinionated statement, please DO NOT take it as an insult or bullying or antagonism. I want to teach you about how exciting our country actually is.   I want more people out there to know about us. I want us to be heard.
That's why I started this thread.

It. Was. EPIC. I was young, so I didn't really understand everything that was going on, but oh my goodness, it was marvelous. I had never seen Cape Town more alive. It was colourful, it was bright, all our cultures and races mixed into one awesome diverse nation. It was the best holiday I ever had. No school for a month, tourists everywhere dying to catch a glimpse of everything South African.

I don't think there'll be anything like it again.

Unfortunately, my family and I weren't able to see any games at the stadium (in fact we have never even been inside to this day!). We were simply glued to the TV. I think I remember the odd team bus driving through to Green Point (where Cape Town's stadium is) but that's about all I remember.

You had to be there. You'd have loved it. Anyone would have loved it.
