I got a new DS A month ago and it worked fine. Then my L button gave out. I workes and dosen't work. The people I talked to said it collects dust and showed me how to blow it out. It works, but not always. Anyone have advice? Should I pay the $20 to get it Checked and another $30 to fix it?

You said you got the thing new, right? If so, Nintendo should have a warranty on that thing for either 90 days or 1 year, not sure which it is on the DS. (I know on the Wii it's a year.) All I can say is, if it is indeed new, have Nintendo take a look at it and they'll do it for free if it's in warranty as well as renew your warranty as a product guarantee. If you send it to the people you talked to and pay $50, not only are you wasting money, but you also void the warranty on your DS.

If you got it used, however, still send it in to Nintendo and pay their price. It may be a little more expensive (not sure), but they guarantee any repairs they make with a fresh warranty on your system.

No warranty came with the DS. I did have it looked at and it was dust. it currently works (thanks zeldafreak) but belive me when I say it will screw up again. I do have a Wii but never use it (exept for Guitar hero) I am not going to give $50 to fix it it is costly just to look at the thing. EDIT: I got it look at at gamestop for free, it works!

I'm assuming it is a DSLite or DSi?
If you bought it brand new from a store (not online) and it came boxed with manuals and such then all you need is to have your reciept as proof of purchase.
There is an automatic one year warrenty on DSLites and DSi's if bought new.

I think it costs about 60 bucks to fix a broken bottom screen on a DSi. The original Ds, however, I don't know. Like DH said, buy it at a store, get a warranty. Latly I have been hearing complaints about Ds(light,i) L keys screwing up. Everyone i've talked to has had problemss with that perticulay button. Totally weird...

I swear I've posted this before somewhere...

My (almost) guarantee method of fixing those damned shoulder buttons.

They always give out for me. I always revive them back. Thank you Nintendo for anticipating little kids beating up their DS'.

1. Put mouth on Shoulder Button.
2. Blow, not suck, blow into the gap between the edge of the top part of the button, and the indent and the DS.
3. Takes 1-3 blows really.
4. Tap the edge of the back of the DS as such:
If this is the back of the DS:
R___________L
l---------------------x-l
l---------------------x-l
l-----------------------l
l-----------------------l

Then tap the part with the X's. Use your fingernail and tap it a bit hard.

Usually works for me, don't know if it'll work for you.

Ok, I've figured it out, the L button on game systems is rarly used. The R bottons plate has a stronger sopport thing. The L button is taken for granet that it will not break, due to almost no use. I use mine alot, fix that problem.
