Back in the 3rd generation of videogames there were two big rivals that were the ones who made a complete reboot of the game industry after the crash of '83 and '84.
These two gaming companies were Nintendo and Sega. They were both good companies, however Sega wanted to take Nintendo down, but after many fails they got
it pretty good with their 4th generation console the Sega Genesis. Which is one my favorite consoles of all time. Anyways the console did pretty good, but Nintendo beated
Sega again with the help of the Super Nintendo. Have you ever wondered how did Nintendo did it? Well the Super Nintendo was far superior than the Genesis, but the Genesis
had its advantages. The Genesis was fast and the SNES was freaking slow, but the SNES was colorful and the Genesis isn't and that is why Sega invented 2 Console Add-Ons for its
console we will be talking about the first one. Ladies and gentlemen I present to you...
The Sega CD..

Why?!
Why would they do this?!
Ok at first glance you think the attachment would be awesome, but really its not what you are expecting...
Before we start I have to say...
So you invented the Sega CD to try to make the Genesis more superior than the SNES?!
Well too bad it wasn't superior even with its two Add-Ons, but like I said before lets talk about the Sega CD first.
Console Design:
Ok its not really a console, but to me it looks like one of those VHS rewinders which you put at the right of the Genesis. Seriously I am not kiding that is what I think it looks like. Well I am saying the Model 2.
The Model 1 is different story...
The Model 1 Sega CD goes in the bottom which to me it looks like a modern DVD player.
So anyways the design of the console... Or excuse me consoles are ok for being an Add-On
Game Format and Library of Games:
As its name implies this add-on runs on CDs, but here is the kicker...
Every time you want to play a game you have to wait for a loading time of course you might be patient but it takes ages!
However thanks to Vizzed that stupid loading time is gone, by the time the ROM is installed the game is already done loading, but overall the Game Format is not the best.
The Games aren't the best also.
Most of the games were already on the regular console, the Sega Genesis.
So what is the point of it?!
However there are some games that were exclusive only for the Sega CD
Two examples are Sonic CD and The Terminator, but overall the library of games for the Sega CD are not great...
Graphics and Sound:
The graphics are very similar to the Genesis same thing goes for the sound however since the
Sega CD can play cinematic cutscenes you think they would be good, but no...
The cutscenes are not even full screen they are "Full Motion" as it calls it and its horrible...
Just because the technology was very young back then...
Other Things:
Like many Console Add-Ons they are supposed to make the console better in some way, but here is the kicker the darn thing is not powered by the Genesis itself.
So guess what!?
The Sega CD has its own AC Adapter which makes it two.
May not sound atrocious at first, but back in the day we didn't use the normal plug we used this big o' box as a plug and it takes up lots of space
So really it was very stupid for Sega not to make a way for the Genesis to power the Sega CD the same way it does for its controllers.
However the Sega CD was a very facinating add-on it was actually able to play cinematic cutscenes, but it was horrible anyways.
Furthermore, its damn price which shall not be said.
Overall:
The add-on was one of Sega's first commercial failures and guess what they made another add-on.
Just to try to win against its rival the Super Nintendo.
Next time I will talk about the Sega 32X...
(By the way I think this was too short I might edit this to make it a longer review)
