Today, Sony has announced that they're completely ceasing support on the PlayStation Portable and all of its related products.

They will now place all of their mobile focus on the PlayStation Vita.

The PSP has been around for 10 years, and has sold over 80 million consoles. The only Non-Nintendo console to be even mildly, if not tremendously successful.

Hopefully the Vita will do the same.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Rock Band Unplugged, Persona 3 Portable, Assassins Creed Bloodlines, and so, so many others are all such great games, on a great platform that everybody loves.

How do you feel about the PSP? What do you think about its discontinuation?

Though, the psp will be missed, there were so many great games and it was basically revolutionary in terms of handheld consoles with movie, music, and web functionality. And true, if the PSP hadn't been so succesful, there might not have even been a demand to make the Vita at all.

So instead of fixing what they "forgot", as soon as they remember the original and actually successful PSP existed, they discontinue it? Because logic!

But really, in all seriousness, I'm gonna miss it and its great games, but not as much as them discontinuing the PS2. Not gonna miss the PSP go though.

No! Never! This sort of thing cannot possibly happen! Sadness. I will miss you PSP. Oh wait, I still have mine. Still fine here. No more games though, sadly.

Eh. To me the PSP wasn't anything special. I was only fond of Metal Gear Solid and Mega Man. It's not like I really care if it's discontinued. Also isn't the vita a carbon copy of the PSP with an added touch screen or something?
If it is Sony sure know how to waste our money.

~Pikachi~ : There are actually pretty significant differences. Take a look at it yourself, if you really want to find out. That is, if you care. Although, if you only enjoyed MGS and MM, the odds are, it won't matter.

They were more or less favorites to me, but they were popular.

If I was going by sheer popularity, I would have mentioned God of War: Chains of Olympus/Ghost of Sparta, Patapon, LocoRoco, Pixeljunk Monsters, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, etc.

1sam234 : No dev wants to work on hardware that old, currently massively unpopular, and general outdatedness. The Vita is having enough dev problems as it is, but it's new, its powerful, and there's so many possibilities of games that could be done.

It really is great they're completely moving on to the Vita. I hope they give it the attention it deserves.

Oh Monster Hunter, my favorite PSP game. Now that was a classic. I know it was the best selling PSP game of all time for a while.

I personally don't really have a problem with it actually. The PSP is a great handheld and it's been around for ages. I actually don't really play the Nintendo handhelds like the DS, 3DS. The Gameboy Advanced is probably the only Nintendo handheld I like. So this was basically my favourite modern handheld. But it's been around long enough and the PS Vita can get the attention that it deserves. I don't really like the look of the PS Vita compared to the PSP but hopefully they can do some great things with it now.

After 10 years can you really blame them for not discontinuing it though? They probably don't make much prfit anymore so there's no point.

They stopped profiting on the PSP when they released the PSP go. They released it because the old psp got hacked and they weren't selling any games for it, and if someone DID buy a game, nobody was buying new ones. It was futile though, because the PSP go got jailbroken like 3 months after its release. Personally, I never paid for a single game.. only thing I ever bought were memory cards (which were absurdly overpriced). But my PSP go was my favorite console. It was the first one I ever got to play homebrew on, and it was the first thing I got to run emulators.

FUN FACT: Geohot found his ps3 exploit hiding in the PSP software, which led to the kernel access being released.. If you don't know, that was when we got to jailbreak our ps3's, which is AWESOME btw... That was why they released the ps3 SuperSlim, because they couldn't fix it lololol

That's just crap. I just got my PSP for Christmas last year!

Rest in Peace PSP. The PSP lived through half of 2 generations basically. I remember playing a lot of monster hunter, and when I was younger, an RPG that looked like crisis core. But eh, what'll you do if you can't make a profit on it anymore?. I'm gonna miss it along with the PS2, except PSP Go.

On a side note, I really want to try out the PSP version of Corpse Party, but since the PSP is now discontinued, I probably won't find a working copy of it. Anybody have any ideas? 

I'm kind of indifferent to this news because I have always been a DS gamer and not PSP. I know that there are many good titles worth playing for the system but none other than Peace Walker really got my attention.

I liked it, but I never owned one. What I am wondering about if they are going to keep the servers up for it, or if it is done and dead.
