SUX2BU : Oh no I don't do that mashing in the cup anymore not unless it is needed for a reason.  because of how the way it is packed I used a table spoon sometimes or would pour mostly at times because I would know how much I am using. And it isn't as dry as the icing sugar, it is just soft sugar. Buy it to feel it in your hand. But be careful it gets a bit sticky as well when touching it. I'm no cook, but I remember that brownies were the first thing I ever made by myself with no supervision from anyone, and they were fine, delicious in fact. If I can make brownies with no experience, then anyone can. Like I said, just read the directions, and you'll be fine, I promise.
