Wow, a whole lot more competition than the first one. And it's only just the third day. It makes me a little nervous, but it's still so very exciting. I'm very eager to see the end results.

I guess I'll participate this time. Put your headphones on, ladies and gents. I'll try to pick some songs from slightly more obscure games, so I'll probably lose, but whatevs.

Submission 1:
Panel de Pon (SNES): A Walk on a Rainbow

It's a really pleasant and relaxing song that plays during the credits. The song starts at 34:44 in the video, but the link should start the video right at that time when you click it.

Submission 2:
Mega Turrican (GEN): Stage 3-1

A fun and upbeat song. This game's whole soundtrack is pretty amazing, which is evidently what got me to play it in the first place. Love that distinctive Sega Genesis sound. The song is extended to about 10 minutes long.

Submission 3:
Drill Dozer (GBA): 3rd Gear

This game doesn't get enough love. It was developed by Game Freak, the people behind Pokemon. The song definitely has a Pokemon-ish feel to it (especially the Ruby/Sapphire generation). Oh, how I wish they would make a sequel to this game. . .

Second choice: "Sigma Stage 1" in Mega Man X (Super Nintendo)

Wow, this was quick! I wasn't expecting another video game music competition for a while. The console restriction is going to make this interesting. I'll update this post with the links as the videos are uploaded.

Like in the last contest, I'm starting with a song composed by Tim Follin. But once again, that's a good choice, because... this. This song, weirdly, is actually a remix of the Starsky and Hutch theme, but it's really cool in its own right. Follin later composed the music for an actual Starsky and Hutch game for PS2, GameCube, etc., which means he ended up remixing that song again 10 years later.

For this game's music, the composer is actually credited on the title screen. That's not unheard of when it comes to retro games, but it's still pretty uncommon, and it usually means the in-game music is going to be fantastic. No exception here, as the Streets of Rage series on Genesis/Mega Drive has some of the best music on the system!

Song 3: Knight's Errand - Langrisser II (GEN)

In my opinion, this game has some of the best music in video game history. Luckily it has a sound test, being that I have no interest in actually playing the game. (this is one of those games I know of solely because of its music.) Of course, the first song you hear in actual gameplay is this, but I didn't know that in advance, and I didn't bother to play the game long enough to find out if anything happens if you just wait and don't do anything. So I just stuck with the sound test. In any case, YouTube uploads of this game's theme always call it "Knight's Errand", so that's what I'm titling this. As for when it plays throughout the game, well I can't really tell you that, because I don't know other than that it's the first song that plays when the first mission starts.

Right, so we're allowed to resubmit songs that we uploaded for the first competition. I guess I'll do that, and do it with the song I posted that got the most votes last time, Ballblazer's title theme. I might as well go into more detail about it this time. In the last one I said that this technically doesn't loop. That's because that lead that sounds like a jazz piano improvisation is actually pseudo-randomly generated; it is an improvisation. It does this using fractals, and unfortunately I can't explain it past that because I have no idea how the process works at all, or even what a fractal is. Basically, though, it means that the song will never play exactly the same if you boot up the game twice, and it will never loop.

Sorry about the terrible gameplay and intrusive sound effects. I'd recommend you look up an actual upload of this song on YouTube instead. Basically, this game doesn't continue to play its music when it's paused, and it doesn't have a sound test as far as I know, so I had to play the level. I only had heard of this game because of its awesome music, so I never played it before today, and I only played it to upload this song. The password system helped, but I still suck at it, having never played it before. This isn't my favorite song from the game, but the song that is my favorite only plays on a level with a constant engine noise in the background, so I couldn't use it. The music for this very French (technically Belgian) game was, oddly, composed by a guy named Alberto Gonzalez, who's Spanish as you might have guessed.

Totally stupid question (please bear with me though) how do I upload to the Vizzed Channel?

Voldo : After I finished recording with the Vizzed plug in, it popped up a new window in my browser for uploading it to the Vizzed channel. I think there's also a way to get to this via the game page the vid is for in the video section of that game.

The new window has an option to add a title and description to the video. It has default ones, but you can edit them to how you like it (though, I'd keep the default description part in the vid somewhere since (I think) it's a requirement for uploading to the channel).

After all that, hit continue (or next, or something like that), it'll take you to the uploader. Just choose the video file from your computer and hit upload, and it'll start uploading automatically. It should say in the lower left of the screen how far along the upload is percentage-wise.
