Are there any public spots that you really enjoy to visit because its either beautiful or peaceful and calm? I love Governors Island, a small island off the coast of Manhattan. I had just gone there today for this years opening and its a beautiful place. Half the island has been under construction for the last few years and just opened today with many new features. The island is very small but has so many wonderful things packed in. Just the part that was already open before has a beach, multiple wide fields, art facilities, bike paths, and a promenade that wraps around the island over the ocean. This is really the most beautiful place I have ever been to in the city, I could just stand on the promenade by the rail and watch the waves hit the island for hours. What is a place that you really enjoy? It doesn't have to be some sort of a park, it can really be any public spot.

Let's see, there's a really nice public park near my residence, and I mean it's really nice. It's always completely clean, the people are never annoying or unlikable in any way, and to top it all, it has a nice garden area with lots of fountains and chimes; it's the perfect place to relax. Honestly, I hardly ever visit, but when I do, I use it to help concentrate on my studies or just to escape from everything for a little while.

One of my saddest days was when I moved from Hawaii to Michigan.

There was a beach in Hawaii called Yokohama on the far west side of Oahu.  It was at the end of the highway and people had to drive through some fairly suspicious neighborhoods to get there.  When you arrived, there was a bathroom (with plumbing).  More importantly, it was beautiful.

The ocean was a rich blue like you've never seen before and the shore break made the waves swell up 5-10 feet before they hit.  The sand was coarse and gritty and the wind blew from offshore but there were so few people there it made it perfect.  It was deafeningly quiet with the strong breeze and roar of the ocean and one could commune with nature.  There is a mountain range directly behind the beach and your back has several hundred feet of rock shooting up through the ground.  It's pock-marked with vegetation and the green nicely breaks up the brown and purple color.  Birds test the winds and sail high overhead.

There weren't boats, no planes or helicopter tours, no jet skis, no families of tourists screaming, and no parasailing.  It was everything Waikiki wasn't and it made you think, "This is what it's like before humanity finds a beautiful place."  There are some people spread out over the half mile beach but no one is there to talk, make noise or draw attention.  They're there for the same reason I am: Solitude.

It is perfect.  I cannot wait to go back.
