Cherokee (also known as south Iroquoan). I'm half Eastern Cherokee and my family takes pride in our lineage. I tried learning a little bit of the language, but it's extremely hard for a native English speaker.

Honestly i would rather learn to speak a practical language such as French or perhaps Spanish or Portuguese simply because they are used in various countries around the world...

I think i would probably have to pick French simply because i have a few friends that speak French and maybe one day i would perhaps be able to just take a short boat ride to France and enjoy the sights.. And meet up with a few old friends from the Internet

If I could be fluent in another language, it would be German.

I plan on taking a course in it next semester.

I had learned quite a bit of it when I was younger. And I've heard that it's a helpful language for the sciences, especially if I wanted to study abroad for a few weeks.

In my opinion, I think I would like to speak Igbo. It is one of the main languages spoken in Nigeria. I would, like to speak this, because I would like to talk privately to my family/relatives, without others understanding what I am saying.

nreid1 : That's sad but true. There will always be people like that.

DARKANINE : I've never heard of that language, what an interesting name! What makes it so hard to learn it?

sonicmcmuffin : There are a lots of words that you recognize in both languages. For example, many verbs sound like they come straight from English. If you know English you'll have more of an advantage of learning French then knowing Dutch only

EideticMemory : I've never heard that Germany is useful for sciences, where have you heard that? I myself find German easy to learn, but that's because it's very similar to Dutch.

TheGhostlyChig : Aha, so do your parents originally come from Nigeria? I didn't know the language there is called Igbo, is there any reason for that?

Edit: I found this interesting page on 9gag:

juuldude : I'd make it Dutch, just because I've always wanted to sing "There's a double dutch bus comin' down the street" in Dutch OK OK, maybe just for fun. I really like Spanish, I gotta admit. I enjoy speaking it quite a bit, but I've gotten rusty.

I really want to be able to speak Latin. It's always seemed like a really cool and fun language to me, so next year after I finish Spanish 2, I think I'm going to take Latin 1. I wanna be able to sing One Winged Angel correctly!
...Oops, no one was supposed to know about that last part ^^'

StarKitten : That's cool! Are there certain Spanish things you like?

supernerd117 : Hehe, that would be your dream
So you want to catch up with Spanish? When did you learn it?

nreid1 : :

DrakPokeMaster : Well, it's an unique language in many ways but what I love most is to read old stories and to translate them, especially how people made stories back then is amazing.

juuldude : I learned it throughout my youth and high school years, and a little in college. But it was off and on, so I never had a strong grasp of the language, with the exception of pronunciation. But I loved it so much.

I would like to learn either Ancient Greek, Latin, or Japanese.

I want to learn Ancient Greek because I'm a bit of a history buff and I was always fascinated by Ancient Greece. I also want to be an architect and most of my inspiration has come from Ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Same reason I want to learn Latin to be totally honest, for both the history and to see if there are any original blueprints of the Coliseum and Athens in the original language.

Japanese I will admit is mostly to be able to see anime in its original form, since for some reason it's nearly always better in the Japanese version. But also because I want to study a bit of Japanese history and culture and it would be a lot easier if I could actually go to Japan and study there.

Also knowing the language is a must since my uncle was stationed at a military base in Okinawa and said that nothing there has an English translation except on the base. Everything from restaurant menus to street signs were only in Japanese and he had a hard time getting around or getting anything when not on the base, so he warned me to at least learn how to read it before trying to make a visit.
