... this was the first theory I could think of putting here...

Now yes, I'm sure half tho population of youtube is familiar with Game Theory and how Link is dead and BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Well the reason I'm doing this series in the first place is so I can put the theories together, not express my own input. And seeing how the 5 main areas of Termina are the most mainstream thanks to the dead Link theory I guess we can start with this.

And a quick disclaimer, Matpat wasn't the first to realize this, but he couldn't get the facts 100% straight. He assumed with all the obvious signs circling around death that LINK IS DEAD OMG but not EVERYTHING is about link hokay? No, Link isn't dead. He just visits a parallel world. But death is very present within the game.

Well for one the moon is set on a crash course with Termina, but let's look at Termina itself. The name Termina, is based on the word "terminal". Look up terminal, not only does it mean a place where a toll road begins or parts where a plane connects with an airport, etc. It also means DEATH. Yes, a baby Nintendo game surrounded around death. Oh sure death of everyone can be handled in a game, but saying damn!? RATED T!!!

Now Termina is separated into 5 parts, central Clock Town, southern Woodfall, northern... what were the mountains called again? Western beachy place, and eastern Ikana Canyon. Of course I remember the first area, central hub, and the area people won't shut up about... now with 4 main parts of Termina and a central access point for all 4 of them, that makes 5 parts.

Now I'm not sure where this originates, but there's something called the 5 stages of grief. Basically, imagine your most loved person in the world went skiing one day, crashed into a tree, the tree fell on that person, and the person and tree slid off a cliff into a volcano. That person is now in the hospital, and seeing you care about each other a lot you are given word that your bff, bf, gf, family member, poster of Selena Gomez may not live for long.

STEP 1: DENIAL

C'mon, it's not like someone you care about would die right? This is all a misunderstanding, everything will be fine. You neglect that something so bad would happen until, well, it happens. Clock Town just screams out denial. Everyone hears the moon will crash into their world, they see the moon getting bigger, and they're hosting the biggest carnival all year and no one is actually coming yet. If you enter the mayors office anytime during the first 2 days you will find a little war going between the guards and carpenters, with the mayor caught in between. While the soldiers are trying to convince the mayor to have everyone evacuate and seek shelter (not like that'll help anyways) the carpenters are against it. They call the moon falling a groundless and ridiculous theory. Now the guards exist to help the people of their town and assure their safety. (that's why they lock all children in the town if their parents left without them) The carpenters on the other hand have waited all year to set up this carnival so everyone can have fun. Once the fact the moon is getting closer, the guards take high precaution by trying to get everyone to leave since they care about safety, but the carpenters deny the fact, seeing as how they can't let something come out of the blue and ruin their jobs. And it's not just them, many other people in the town don't seem to care, but by the final day everything changes. The postman gets torn between his job and his safety, the sword master once saying he'll chop the moon to pieces now cowers in fear in his hidden chamber. They all denied what was coming and now as it becomes apparent... well crap.

STEP 2: ANGER

UGH!!! WHY DID HE/SHE/IT HAVE TO GO SKIING INTO A TREE AND FALL INTO A VOLCANO! IDIOTS! Look, when you really care about someone who now has his/her/it's life on the line you'll try to help, but as everything fails and you can't get the help that person needs rage builds up inside you. "If these people just prevented this from happening or if they'll just try and listen to me when I say how to help her, WE WOULD'NT BE IN THIS MESS!" So that leads to the first area of the game, the swamp of Woodfall. The deku kingdom is having a bit of a moment as it appears the princess has gone missing. Basically something was wrong with the temple, so the princess and her monkey buddy went to check it out. When the princess is kidnapped by Odwala, the monkey runs away to seek help. But or course all the deku scouts or whatever saw a monkey they'd never seen entering a temple with the princess and leaving without her, so they jumped to conclusions and now they're gonna punish the monkey for supposedly kidnapping the princess. Oh yeah, take your only witness and lead to where the princess is and BURN HIM WITH FIRE!!! Instead of trying to resolve the problem, they have resorted to taking out their fury on a... monkey? Well return the princess, everything's rainbows and lollipops. Next area.

STEP 3: BARGAINING???

Ok, so my loved one is gonna die... TO THE CASINO!!! Naw, that isn't it. Now this step isn't very clear, and neither is the area with it. Keeping up with the dead Link theory, Matpat assumes that by bargaining, it must be when Link makes a deal with Darmani's soul. Link can use his awesome goron powers and Darmani has one more chance to help his people. Well that's far to shallow, I mean it's clear Darmani means a lot to the goron tribe, but is that all you got? Well I've found out exactly what this step means in terms of grief. Think about it, if someone is in deep trouble, you pray. Pray that everything will be alright, but what if that isn't enough. Maybe this happens because you haven't been a good person? Well what happens when this comes to mind? You bargain with whoever your praying to. If this person can be alright, I'll do anything. I'll stop drinking, stop smoking, I'll donate to charity. Heck, you can kill ME instead if this person stays ok. And that's the bargaining. Like I said, Darmani isn't alone on this. It appears this tribe of gorons is like the type of friend relationship with your friend being the one who does anything for you and never wants anything in return. During this blizzard keeping away the spring, the only people who do anything are Darmani who dies on the way to the mountain (thanks invisible biggoron) and the elder, who ends up freezing on his way to make it to Clock Town. But even then, the reason the elder leaves is to find help. The gorons seem to be at a lost without aid. They won't do anything on their own and expects a miracle to happen. When Darmani dies, they bury him and lose hope, but as Link comes and Darmani seems to raise from the dead everyone begs him for help. Make the baby stop crying Darmani, stop the blizzard Darmani, blow up this rock so we can race Darmani. (though trust me, you do wanna hurry up and win the race before day 3) This area represents how they've been begging, hoping, bargaining for a hero and then they get one.

STEP 4: DEPRESSION

Your loved one died... do I even need to explain this one? Yeah, fortunately the last 2 steps are very clear. I mean would you be HAPPY to see a loved one die? Well for area 3 what's the most depressing thing we can think of... I know! DEAD BABIES! Basically Lulu, lead singer of the band the Indigo-gos gave birth to 7 eggs. However, some pirates stole these eggs to sell them for a fortune. They even lost 3 eggs over the most dangerous part of the ocean. What's worse is that with the condition of the temple the ocean became very sickening, and the eggs can't survive like that and need purified water. Lulu herself now feels endless depression over losing her children to the point where she does nothing but silently stare into the sea. And the worst part? Those eggs sell for as much as a BUG! Seriously, I started a new 3 day cycle and got an egg to see how much it sells for, worth 70 rupees. That probably isn't a lot, maybe if we tell the pirates they'll let the eggs free and go around bottling bugs instead? With Lulu unable to sing, the entire zora band staff is in the dumps. Mikau singing one last song before his death, the leader guy unable to think of a song, and the show being cancelled. Wow, worst day of their lives eh?

STEP 5: ACCEPTANCE

What did Matpat say about acceptance in Ikana Valley? Going to Stone Tower temple and Link being in heaven with light? Umm, dude... DID YOU EVEN PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PLACE!? Well yeah, after a while depression goes away, you accept this person is gone from your life, and you just continue on. And LINK goes to heaven cause he's dead... oh Matpat, you're losing it. I mean I'm sure many of you must have realized how weak that was. Ikana Valley is full of none other than dead people. And once you come along, you help them accept their death. Look at the lab in the middle of the place, the daughter of the scientist has accepted her dad turning into an undead... thing... and tries to make the best of it. Meanwhile all these ghosts and undead mummies and skeletons linger in the canyon. As you help them, they say "well, I'm dead... bye!" As you defeat deceased warriors like the stalchild captain and the shadowy ninjas they see how they have finally been surpassed and now leave feeling confident the world has new warriors. In the gibdo well each gibdo retains a desire from their past, and if you give them what they want they vanish away, saying they now bear no remorse of their past and thus move to the great beyond. Upon fixing the bond between the composer brothers they can both move to the afterlife as well, and in the old castle it seems the commanders don't even recall what the war that they died in was even about. It shows they resolved a conflict through violence and now feel something missing as they wonder the point of war when things can always be resolved peacefully. Each ghost, zombie, mummy, skeleton, entity here can't transcend because they are missing something. They can't accept death without it, but feel glad to go once they have it.

So no, Link doesn't have to be dead when there are plenty more things in Termina expressing the coming of death. We haven't even scratched the surface yet of the meaning of death in this game. Be sure to check out the next theory to be tied in with the game.

And as a disclaimer, no. I will not be discussing theories on Link's elegy statue.

Go *#&$ yourself Ben.
