The title is pretty self-explanatory, is there a character that is hailed as one of the best but you never got the appeal of?

I have a couple:
-Penny from the Big Bang Theory.
I've seen people say Penny is the best character, not just from the fans but also from some of the actors (like Jim Parsons) and I never got why. I don't find her to be funny, cute, smart, or really have any good qualities. Her "jokes" are awful and I just feel like she's a plot device, not an actual character. Characters (Mostly Amy) seem to glorify her like she was a goddess or something.

-Rose from Doctor Who.
Alright, I don't hate Rose, I like her a lot. But people say that she's the best companion the Doctor has had, and I don't feel it. She was important, yes, but not the best companion. She had her flaws. Pretty much every companion in the new series becomes the most important person in the universe/Doctor's life. She's overrated, but I do like her.

Rita from Dexter
I liked her for the first few times I saw her and then no...no...no. Every time she spoke I would start to cringe and I don't know why. I just really didn't like her. I think it's because she became whiny in my opinion.

Britta from Community
Britta's the worst! Okay I actually like her but it has nothing to do with her, more like I love everyone around her minus pierce. She's just in a good tv show because in any other show I would want to punch her in the face. She's like the at&t of people. (I'm done quoting community now, I promise.) She's the opposite of Batman! (Okay I lied, now I'm done!)

I love the show. Adore it but the show that's based on a person I would not like in real life. She goes to jail blaming her lesbian lover that she explains as a college thing out of boredom. I hate that if you're bored go read a book, don't change your sexual orientation for a bit and date a drug dealer. (I do love Laura Prepon in everything though.) But everything she does in the show pisses me off. I'll spare you my endless complaints and just leave now though.

I would have to agree with Penny. It's not that I personally hate her, but it's just that she is so lame compared to the others based on what they say and how they act.

Yes I dislike Penny as well. To me she's just a free loading, manipulative hypocrite. I just don't like her character that much and I agree that she's really not that funny.

And I'm not sure if I really don't like this character or I just hate what he does. Eric Cartman, he does some horrible things in the show and gets away with it half the time. It just frustrates me. But he does get his comeuppance quite a bit which makes up for it.

She was in a lot of the best episodes and she wasn't ALWAYS completely worthless, but she was that sort of sassy that's supposed to be all endearing and independent. But I just saw her as a horse that needs to stop talking. I feel like Amy got that way later on too. It's fine to an extent, but then she just got conceited and seemed pissy and pompous all the time.

Sometimes funny or involved in a good episode/gag, but mostly just really stereotypical cartoon character that grates on my nerves after a bit.

I get that he's a parody of sorts and his character is meant to be over the top, but it's just hard for me to watch. The whole original series is, but Kirk really drives it home.

I'm sure there's more but that's all I've got for now.

Spider-Man from Spider-Man.
Or any other good guy from a superhero movie/tv show. I hate how the good guys always win, give the Bad guy a chance once and a while.

Probably Sasuke from Naruto. Everyone loves him, but I think he can be an attention whore a lot of the time. Naruto all the way (At least he's full of comedy up his sleeve) 

I'd also say Ross from Friends. The only episode where I liked him is the one where he gets addicted to Mortal Kombat. Wait, do I even like ANY characters from Friends? No, I think not.

I don't like Sasuke anymore I really dislike how his character is when he gets order.

I also dislike Dawn from Pokémon I thought she was rather annoying. Didn't like how she didn't have her own thing and just copied May with the whole contest thing. I believe every girl from season to season should do something different and unique.

Pam from True Blood. I don't hate her character, but I just never got what her appeal was; or chalked it up to the fact that everyone is so fanatical for Eric that it kind of bled over onto her by association. Plus it always bugged me when you see some of the great back stories on how a lot of the other characters were turned, and yet she just decided she was bored with her human life and basically stomped her foot like a spoiled kid to get Eric to turn her into a vampire. That could just be personal interpretation though...




On another note, Emily Fields from Pretty Little Liars is now the one liar I absolutely can't stand at this point. She was alright for the first two seasons, but she's just kept going downhill since then. There is just... so... so much I want to say about her, but in short: She needs to wise up and not let her love for Alison keep clouding her common sense, and also take notice that Hanna is obviously in a bad place right now and has a problem, instead of just lashing out at her all the time. Especially considering Hanna and the other girls are the ones that have been there for her these past years; not Alison who got them all into the mess in the first place, and still hasn't seemed to have changed at all for the better...

I hate Kenny from south park, I really with he stayed dead, butters and tweek were much better replacements for him, Kenny's only purpose is to die and that's pretty much been abandoned as of lately, ugh #KillKenny

I am the complete opposite of you pixelbrick, I like sasuke slightly more than naruto, I used to like sasuke a lot more when he was younger, but when he got older he became even more of a jerk and he is also more whiny. His logic is flawed also, he hopes to avenge his slaughtered clan by killing one of the last uchiha left alive, his brother. The only thing I like about sasuke is his cold, icy personalilty, but other than that, he really isn't my favorite, that honor goes to Itachi, the coolest character in the show in my opinion. 



The reason I like sasuke more than naruto (whom everyone seems to love) is because he is intelligent and he actually has a strategy in battle and he commits to his training, Naruto on the other hand is a clueless tub of lard who wins by brute strength...if it weren't for his nine tailed fox, he would be weaker than Hinata. But since he is the main character, that means that he automatically wins everything no matter how much of a disadvantage he has, they will always make him pull through. I think it is dumb that they make it so that the main character?good guy always wins, but that's just me. 

Captain Falcon from Super Smash Bros. I cannot stand him! Everybody I know that plays SSB absolutely love him and I don't know why. The only thing that is passable about him is his Falcon Punch. Everything else is stupid...his Falcon Kick, his throw move, his ^+B maneuver. Its all stupid in my opinion. Every time my friends and I have a little friendly battle (most of the time its 4 of us), whoever plays Captain Falcon is always the first one to lose. Its no coincidence...he sucks people! For the record, my favorite character is Samus. I would blow him away with her cannon...easy!

If I had to pick anyone, it would be a Toby McGuire Spider-Man. It seems he's been ripped to shreds by the internet, but I seem to always enjoy the trilogy of him as Spidey.

Personally I dislike Sakura, not really sure why to be honest since I have no problem with Ino, and I find that a lot of people enjoy her character. Not sure what it is about her that I don't like, since I have no problem with other pink haired girls in anime. It could be the fact that she almost literally did nothing at all until Shippuden came out, or the fact that she lied to Naruto about loving him to keep him from going after Sasuke, or some other inane reason.

I would have to agree with most of the points about Penny. I don't hate her character, just dislike her. I feel that she doesn't bring much to the table in most of the episodes, and is mostly there for the cliché of the nerdy guy getting the cute "girl next door" eventually. Honestly I liked Rajesh's sister (sorry can't remember how to spell her name correctly) a lot better and felt that she fit into the dynamic of the group easier.

I'm taking a risk posting this since the topic creator is a Whovian and might have feelings about this one...

Dr. River Song.

I just do not buy this lady is the Doctor's wife. The personalities just seem to polarizing. Her being the flirty, playful one ALL THE TIME just shows me how bad a fit her character is with our chaste, frighteningly boyish looking (this time) alien. - what the heck man. Of chemistry, I felt 0%. Maybe with a different doctor, but nah, I don't even even then.

I also think that Penny from Big Bang theory is overrated. I much prefer the other main characters over her.

I would say Penny from BBT, but I feel like most people just dislike the character.

One other would be the new Peter Parker in the Amazing Spiderman movies.

I really don't like the personality shift, and overall intelligence shift from the original series. My bet is that they wanted to do something different with him, and I understand it. It just seems like a lot of people like him over the old Peter Parker, and I have to disagree.

Sticks the Badger.

I kindof apathetically hate and disregard the whole series of Sonic Boom, cuase it's not Sonic X. But my complaints against the show is another topic.

Sticks is annoying and immature. The focus she gets in the program and lack of action around Sonic, or even Knuckles can be really annoying. (Though Knuckles is too dumb to be much of anything interesting to focus on really)

Tails and Sticks seems to steal the show in my eyes, which is fine for Tails, but not Sticks. She's the most annoying Sonic character I've ever seen, plus, other people seem to like her.

Why? She's so stupid! UT pointed that out pretty well.

I can't stand characters like this, but the worst part is she's based off a side character from the handheld games, Marine the Racoon. (Who really wasn't annoying, she was just fine, it's her new incarnation as "Sticks the Badger" that's bad.)

And of course, people like her. Blast it. Characters like these, when the get the focus, just pull depth and stuff down with them. I get that this is for a younger audience and stuffs. Okay, but children like deep stuff too! See Star Wars!


She talks, says the first thing that pops into her head and just. . . get's her way in the most annoying fashion ever + does the most annoying and idiotic stuff for her team possible, like Making Eggman evil again after the cookie's episode, or getting rid of UT, whom Tails risked his life for, (or maybe not. . . he took a motobug out with a single whack of a pipe wrench,) and in the end, Sticks just threw him into the Ocean.

Of course Tails does nothing. Doesn't build another one.

She's inconsiderate, and I don't know how anyone could stand to be around her.

In fact, what is she even doing hanging around Sonic and the team?

Ugh!



She doesn't even fit. She's effectively the next Chris Thorndyke, and I don't even mind Chris that much. But Stick is too much. No, her boomerangs aren't that useful. (Neither is Knuckle's fists, they couldn't do anything against that one large robot in the episode, "Translate this" But whatever.)

The entire show is disappointing cause the only characters who are done right is Tails, Sonic, and Amy, (Who's fairly mature actually.)

Knuckles is dumb. (Why can't they remember Sonic Adventure?)

And Sticks is just annoying.


I'm not to worried about it, cause major series like Sonic, or whatever messing up I'm pretty used too, and I can't let myself get riled up over another bad job on their end. But whatever. It seems like a lot of the time I just have to watch as a series destroys itself-

-or moves onto another fanbase/generation.

Rachel Duncan from Orphan Black...Which I'm not sure anyone on vizzed has ever watched. lol Everyone seems to love her and personally I can't stand her. She's just a cold-hearted, manipulative witch. Sure, her childhood was messed up, but it doesn't give her a free pass to make other people feel miserable.

Something that always baffled me, was how the OB fandom was so quick to forgive Rachel for basically screwing over Cosima (who is arguably the fan favourite) and essentially handing her a death sentence. I hate Rachel with a passion. 

Another character I can't stand is Dawn from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. She's just so irritating. Buffy didn't need a surprise little sister, especially one who was given such flimsy plot-lines. She's the only thing about Buffy The Vampire Slayer that I don't like. 

Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle. Once he gets past that stage where he jumps on his brother and just tears at the boy's face, Dewey matures a bit and turns out to be a very clever, manipulative kid who plays the innocent card a lot more than any character on the show or any person who watched the show realizes(I still cannot recall all the times he 'seemed' innocent). If you've ever had a younger brother who has behaved in this way, you see that Dewey (like your sibling) can never be trusted for real. Sadly, everyone seems to adore this little punk.



Vince Chase from Entourage. Every guy who appears on that show is a tool but Vince more than most. Imagine living a life of no morals. You do whatever feels good to you because you are now rich and have high fame status which causes people to pander to your wishes. Vince himself is probably based on many real-life jerks who exist in the state of California(there are millions of them). Nobody else I see watching this garbage sees past the spectacle of the character's fame and the trappings of his wealth and fame. He's an idiot.



Tony Soprano. I see him for what he is. A small-time prick who lets his brutality do the talking in the chiseling criminal scheme he runs. Everyone else just says, "Oh that poor Tony. Look at what is going on in his life."

I say, "Look what he just did to a day in that man's life. Look at the other fellow that just died because he got whacked by a brute Soprano hired for enforcement."



Barney Stinson: How I Met Your Mother. Just how are we supposed to adore this despicable character considering his motivations and manipulations? The girls go ga-ga because he's handsome(so shallow ladies, tsk) and the young impressionable men who see him fantasize about how much play they would get if they were a guy like him. Stinson's life through most of the show is no life a real man would appreciate having but many covet it because they mistake his pathetic pursuits for fulfillment. The name "Barney Stinson" comes from the book "L.A. Confidential". The Barney in that book is a heroin dealer. Yay! Let's idolize people who are tearing little pieces out of civilization. This guy is another idiot. If John Goodman got this role, the women would agree with me.



Any character played by Mindy Kaling. Always the same character if you think about it. A person I really hate seeing on my TV screen. Kaling lands too high a percentage of her roles on shows that I love. I wish she would have just stayed a writer but no! She had to put her personal ambitions ahead of audience satisfaction and become an actor as well.



The 2 main characters of Nip/Tuck. They may have gotten in way too deep in the shadiest of legitimate medical businesses but that does not excuse their inappropriate behaviors. Since any sane person realizes that 1% of what we see on television is normal behavior and the rest is because it is television(this includes reality shows and the evening news), the viewer should see that the men portrayed are not living normal lives to begin with and should not try to mimic their actions. Surgery was only ever meant to repair damage. Do not be a cosmetic plastic surgeon. The practice is lucrative but you become a predator; preying on the narcissism of anyone with a disposable amount of funds. I absolutely hate these guys. You love them but have you stopped to consider the characters that have tried to kill them? There is a fundamental reason behind that. Jerks.



Charlie Harper from Two and a Half Men. Have I mentioned I hate men who live like this? Oh sure. We all laugh when he turns a joke. Lifestyle tells you what you need to know about Harper. At the end of his reign on the show, he at least seems to finally understand that women are not disposable items.



Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda: Sex and the City. An entire generation of otherwise moral young women idolized these characters for the way they (most not admirably) jumped into bed with anyone they fancied. This is the lone example I can pull up of how abnormal television behavior became the new perceived normal behavior across North America.
