I know that anime has been really popular for a while, but I've never really gotten into it. Despite this, I'm always one for trying new things, so I was wondering:

What is a good anime to watch for someone who has never watched anime before? Also, where/how can I watch it?

All suggestions are appreciated!

I would like to suggest that you watch Full Metal Panic. That was the first Anime that got me really into it all. I mean, I did watch Pokémon, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Digimon as a kid, but I never really knew what Anime was. It did not get me into it. Then I started to watch Full Metal Panic, and it was almost as if a switch went off in my head, and I got really into Anime. If you are just starting, I would suggest watching dubs, unless you can stand reading subtitles. Nowadays, I prefer watching Anime with subtitles, so that I can get the Japanese voices, but when I was first starting out, I was unable to stand simply reading subtitles. Now, I do it almost subconsciously. Anyways, that is what I would suggest you start with. I might also suggest that you watch Darker Than Black, and Code Geass, as they are a couple other great Anime for a beginner. Hope you enjoy!

Well of you want to watch long lasting action type of anime, I recommend One Piece, Dragon Ball (any of the three, but I think Z is the best of the three), Naruto (original and shippuden) and Bleach. They are good action anime.

Dragon all, OLD pokemon, One Piece, and Bleach are the best that are out there, some of them require you to read subtitles, but it really isn't that bad as you get used to it.

Umm I'm not sure what kind of things you like so I'll leave some I like.
Hunter x Hunter starts off as a competition to become a hunter with interesting characters and interesting challenges. (The other arcs are great too.)
Fairy Tail, magic and guilds, they go one missions to make money. Great fights, great characters.
Sword Art Online, virtual reality game becomes real the players get trapped in the video game world where if they die there their real bodies die too.
Log Horizon, they get trapped in the mmorpg, it once was a game and now it's real life and they have to make it their own.
Soul Eater a cocky ninja, a girl with daddy issues, and the neurotic son of Lord death and their weapons. You watch them as they work to earn Kishin souls.

Their only two animes shows I really like they are Devil May Cry based on the video game And Xam'd lost memories about a boy that can transformed into a creature called Xam'd to fight monstrous invading forces to save his friend.

1.) One Piece. It's set in the pirate age about a boy who ate a magical fruit( Devil Fruit) That gave made him a rubber man, but now he cant swim. He then finds the best of the best to join his crew so he can be the Pirate King!

2.) Dragon Ball. It was meant to be aimed for the future kind of show, but you can take it future or past. But it's about a boy named Goku who has a monkey tail and is super strong. He meets this girl Bulma, and the search for the legendary Dragon Balls that are said to grant you any wish. They also meet a talking pig, a turtle hermit and a flying cloud.

That's all I've watched, Anime wise. They may be a bit childish, though, but they are still good!

I will give you 3 good anime to watch (in no particular order):

1. Dragon Ball Z - or any alternate version like Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball GT. Definitely one of the best anime out there.

2. InuYasha - if want to feel like you're watching a normal TV show, watch this one. This show has a little bit of everything in it. It was also my first anime

3. Claymore - I still feel like I'm the only one that watches this show. PLEASE watch this one first. Its short, like only 30-something episodes, but it tells a great story.

And as far as where to watch them, DBZ has its own website to watch it on (DBZTV.com I think its called). But you can pretty much watch any anime on animefreak.tv - that's the website that I watch anime on, anyway. I heard there are others too.

A few good, slightly lesser known animes.




1. Nichijou. A hilarious slice of life comedy, not much of a plot but is consistently hilarious and will leave you in a great mood.




2. Kokoro Connect. A more serious slice of life that explores friendship and romance in a deeper and more thoughtful way than you would usually expect from the genre.



3. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Not really lesser known, but no one's mentioned it. It's hard to explain what it's about to be honest, but it's very different from what you get in other anime. Start with the 2012 anime.

There are a ton of great animes out there.

I watch..
-One Piece. Its not serious and has good action scenes. If you want something with action in it that is also a comedy, this would be a good one.
-Bleach. Tons of action and can get a little emotional at times. A good one for an action freak.
-Blue Exorcist. I just began watching this but I'm hooked. It has a great story, great action,and great writing all around.
-Fairy Tail. Second favorite. It has great story, lots of combat, and is funny too! Perfect for any person.
-Sword Art Online. Best anime ever in my opinion. I plain loved it. It is very emotional, very suspenseful, and action packed to the core. If you haven't seen this or heard of it you are missing out!



There are a lot of other animes that are great like Attack on Titan, Code Geiss(I think I spelled that right)  Casshern Sins Deadman Wonderland, Naruto(not too good in my opinion) Full Metal Alchemist and tons others. Look around you'll find something for you.
