Batter Up and take me out to the ballgame. Okay in all seriousness today I'm going to be reviewing one of the first baseball games I played.

Plot: N/A
There really is not a story or plot to this game. This is a sports game. However, the goal of the game is to create a baseball team using the 30 major league teams and win a world series.

Graphics and Controls: 9
The graphics in this game are amazing. The stadiums look like the actual stadiums they were made to represent. The spectators in the stands look like real people. The players even look real. 989 who made this game really knew what they were doing when they made this game. The clouds in the sky look real. In fact, they look so real they remind me of clouds right before a rain delay while watching a real game.

The controls are very good too. The players bat swings are nicely done, the pitchers pitches are nicely done as well. I really felt like MLB 2000 had some very good controls. I would expect the controls to be state of the art since this is a playstation game. The only thing is sometimes when you get runners on base there appears to be a lag especially when trying to advance a base runner. It is not too big of a problem but it is noticeable and that is why I give the graphics and controls a good 9 out of 10.

Sound: 9
The sound of this game is very good. I like the cracking sound when the player hits a home run. To me that sounds like an actual home run being hit in a real game. Also the way the players make a sliding sound. What I find is amusing is if you hit a team mate or a batter the hit player will go arrrggh which is hilarious. The announcers in this game are very good. Commentary is done by Vin Sculley and Dave Campbell. Both are legendary in commentary and baseball analyzing. So 989 knew what they were doing by having them do commentary in this game. The only thing was at the start of the game there is a tingle in the opening sequence. Still I give the sound of this game a good 9 out of 10.

Addictiveness and Depth: 9
If you are a baseball fanatic like me and have more than one team than this game has high replay value. I like to play through this game with each one of my teams. That really adds replay value and depth for me. Also this is a long game as its your standard 162 game schedule. Exactly just like a typical baseball season. Also the makers of this game have several other mini games in this game. You can play through spring training in this game which adds depth. You can try and draft players in this game to create a championship game. That also adds depth. Since this is a sports game there are no items to collect. I give the depth and replay value of this game a 9 out of 10.

Difficulty: 7
The difficulty in this game was hard for me to rate. There are no stages in this game so I can't compare it to a Mega Man game. There are no enemies in this game so I can't compare it to other games. The difficulty is going to vary in this game and it depends on how you play this game. If you play this game without trading players and keep the players and keep the players on your team's roster. Than that could be difficulty because the game is based on the previous season. How your team did in 1998 determines how your team does. All stats and rosters are based on the 1998 season. Another thing that can be difficult is hitting the ball and trying to drive in runs Pitching can be difficult because the other team is going to try to hit your pitches. Yes, it works just like a real game. Based on that I give the difficulty a 7 out of 10.

Overall: 9
As I stated in the difficulty section the stats and rosters are based of the 1998 season. So you are playing through the 1999 schedule. I kind of think calling this MLB 2000 is misleading. When I first got this game I thought it would be the 2000 schedule not 1999. They should have called this MLB 99 and MLB 99 should have been called 98 and so on. But aside from that this was a great game. I got this game for Christmas in 1999 and I had fun playing it. I remember playing this game everyday when I got done doing my school homework. The graphics were really good and so was the sound. I really enjoyed playing this game when baseball season was over with. MLB 2000 satisfied my baseball fever. I also like how they included some of the old stadiums in this game that are no longer used due to new stadium's being built. The Kingdome, Astrodome, Cingery field, 3 rivers stadium, and Candlestick park are all used for games in this game.

Now, this game is not as good as some of the other MLB games out there. Eventually MLB 2002 and 2003 passed this one on my favorites list when they came out.  Those two games were just special for me. Still, though I often go back to this game and play it. I would recommend playing this game. If you are new to baseball games I would try to go and buy this game from places that sell old games. You will find this is a fun game to play especially if you are a baseball fanatic. I enjoyed creating players from today's game and putting them on my team's roster. I also enjoy playing through this game with all of my teams. So go out and play this game I highly recommend it. I give this game a solid 9/10 rating.
