Spring is my favorite season of the year. I also like trees especially Maple Trees. Spring is a great time to plant maples. Maples, provide good shade, can make a yard pretty, and provide excellent fall color. I hope you enjoy this thread.

Red Maple (Acer rubrum) Red Maples are well known, as they grow in a ride range of climates. They grow in zones 3-9. This maple grows from Quebec City Canada all the way down to Tampa Florida. It has been introduced in places out west such as Denver and Seattle. Red maples grow to be about 40-60 feet high. This tree is very sturdy and very popular. There is also several cultivates some of the popular ones are: October Glory, Autumn Blaze, and Scarlet. Red Maples are also a fast growing tree growing 2-4 feet per year.

Sugar Maple (Acer saccarum). This is also a sturdy and very popular maple. This maple grows in zones 4-8. It can be found from Montreal Canada all the way down to Atlanta Georgia. It has been planted in Seattle Washington. Sugar Maple's grow to be very tall ranging from 60-100 feet high. They provide very colorful fall colors and excellent shade. This tree does not grow as fast as some of the other Maples growing 1-3 feet per year.

Norway Maple Crimson King (Acer platanoides). This tree was introduced by colonists and has since become popular. Norway Maples can grow in zones 3-9. It can easily adapt to several terrains and climates. Crimson King is a popular cultivator the leaves remain red during Spring and Summer. It also provides great shade. However, this tree can be invasive so if you plant this tree make sure it has plenty of room. Also make sure its at least 5 feet away from sidewalks. Still do not let this stop you from enjoying this tree. It is a medium grower growing 2 feet per year.

Silver Maple (Acer saccarinum) This maple is very adaptable growing in zones 3-9 can be found from Quebec City Canada to Tampa Florida, and it has been introduced out west. Silver Maples can reach heights up to 70 feet. However, this tree does have some drawbacks. This species of maple is not durable like the Red, Sugar and Norway Maple. Limbs often break easy from this tree. Also this is a tree that will invaded septic systems. So make sure you have a large area for this tree, It is recommend that the tree be planted 10 feet away from septic lines. Silver Maples do provide good shade they just need to be planted a certain way. It should be noted this maple also can form a hybrid with the Red Maple. Silvers are grow very fast growing 3-5 feet per year in their early stages.

Freeman Maple-This Maple is a hybrid between Red and Silver. So it has characteristics of both. It tends to grow fast, but have the durability of the Red Maple.

Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) This maple is exclusive to the Pacific coast it grows from Southern Alaska, all the way down to San Francisco. This Maple can grow to be very big as heights of 100 feet have been reported. It is also very durable.

Japanese Maple (Acer palmatium) This is a very popular maple and is a good choice for small yards. The Japanese Maples come in a wide range of cultivates some have green leaves others have red leaves. This Maple grows in zones 4-8. Japanese maples grow anywhere from 8-20 feet. Some have been known to grow 30 feet. This tree is slow growing which makes it ideal for small yards.

Amur Maple (Acer ginnala) this is a maple that is more like a bush. It grows in Zones 2-9. It has been grown in Anchorage Alaska all the way down to Tampa Florida. it grows to about 10-20 feet but can be made into a bush like maple. Ideal for small yards.

Box Elder Maple (Acer negundo), Okay I do not recommend planting this tree. It does grow quick, but this tree is short lived. It also has the nickname fall apart maple. It is the least durable of all Maples that grow in Canada and America. It is also more invasive than the Silver Maple. This Maple grows in every climate in Canada and America accept in the Arctic, tropics and desert. If you plant this tree plant make sure it has lots of room. I recommend you chose another maple over this one.

Interesting. The only problem with maple trees though is that they grow pretty big. You can't really plant them unless you have a big yard.

There's a plum tree next to my house, but I'm so impatient to wait for them to grow. Not to mention I don't really have enough space for a maple tree.
