Vizzed was down due to a server migration that went wrong. Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. Server migration are aweful, especially when you've got very large databases and can't transfer them simply using the export feature in PHPMyAdmin. It pretty much took me 12+ hours and the whole time I kept thinking about Murphy's Law. It's almost 4 am, I've been at this for 12 hours straight and finally the board is up.

The new server is 2 times more powerful than the last one but you guys probably wont notice an increase in performance since the board is mainly slow due to big php scripts.

But anyways, now that we got the migration out of the way, we shouldn't see any down time for a very long time, and no weekly 1-4 hour down time either.

As I said in the other thread, this new server will cost me over $100 a month and you guys might see an extra ad or 2 go up to help pay for it.

EDIT: Also worth mentioning that any post made within the last 24 or so hours is gone due to me using a backup of the database from a little over 24 hours ago.

Thankyou for the long hours you put into the migration Dave, Ive never known any forum admin/owner to put so much effort into their projects. Ill be sure to donate some coin sometime towards the bandwidth fees.

I haven't noticed too many posts missing, but I have seen a few.

I've known for a day already that 3 of my posts disappeared. Fortunately, I still kept the Viz earned from it. Good job with the migration. You have a great amount of dedication to this place. That's good to see.

I hate migrating too, I remember switching hosts such a pain to fix everything. I don't even know how you managed to move the database that thing is HUGE! Good work, and I do see a slight difference in speed here stuff seems to load a bit faster for me then it did before.

Yeah there should be a slight increase in speed but we should definitely notice no more down time lol.

With the new version of Plesk on the new server, it allows you to migrate to a new server easily. This new version of Plesk basically has an export feature which easily allows you to export all your files, settings, and databases and easily import to another Plesk on a different server (plesk is server software on the server which lets you manage the server from a web page, sorta like cpanel but more powerful).

at first it was actually slower (a lot slower)... I was getting the 30 second time out message .... but now it's noticeably faster...

not sure what changed between now and 3 hours ago, but it's nice to see pages loading faster.

It's weird, some times some pages seem faster and than sometimes some pages seem slower. Like right now, everything seems to be really slow for me, anyone else having this issue?

It's only going slower for me because I've left my computer running for a day and a half. I honestly haven't noticedn a big change speed-wise. Things were running smooth on my end. The only problem I had was the site crashing once in a while. If' that has stopped then I will be content.

Well, I have noticed the new server and it's running faster on my end as well.

Seems like moving a server is a b****, and as such, thank you very much David. I don't know anyone who would spend their day working on their site, just for a change of server.

Yeah I'm very committed to Vizzed Board and I can't stand seeing it down and can't sleep knowing it's down. My goal has always been to provide the best experience possible to the members and I think I've done the best I can up to this point but that definitely doesn't mean there isn't more to come (a ton of stuff coming to vizzed board in the next 6 months).

Yeah well as I said, I wasn't going to go to sleep until I got the board back up. I just really hate seeing it down, bad for website rankings also
