I am a weather person and forecaster and here in America tornado season is about to begin. You have probably heard tornadoes categorized such as EF2 or EF5. Those numbers represent the category that the tornado was believed to have achieved at its peak. These ratings are based off of the tornado's damage. The scale was developed by tornado expert Dr. Ted Fujita in 2007 a new version of his scale was invented. Today I am going to be going over the tornado categories.

EF0 (winds 65-85 mph or 55-75 knots). Damage potential: large trees uprooted, power lines broken, windows blown out, mobile homes damaged

EF1 (winds 86-110 or 76-95 knots). Damage potential: large trees uprooted, power lines taken out, mobile homes destroyed, and roof are damaged

EF2 (strong tornado) (winds 111-135 mph or 96-115 knots). mobile homes damaged, walls blown out of well built homes, roofs are lifted off, cars picked up and small debris missiles generated

EF3 (winds 136-165 mph or 116-145 knots) well built homes are often demolished as walls blown out, roofs carried several feet, cars picked up and thrown several yards. Trains are usually derailed, well built buildings are often damaged  medium debris missiles launched

EF4 (winds 166-200 mph or 146-174 knots) homes are demolished all that is usually left is walls attached to the foundation, buildings are often severely damaged, large missiles are launched. Cars and trains are often thrown several yards

EF5 (winds over 200 mph or over 175 Knots ) all that is left of homes is the foundation, buildings are often leveled. Large debris missiles are launched. A formidable event will occur.

Just a few days ago, during a tornado watch, a storm came through the area, knocking out internet for several hours. Since I live on a hill, that was one of the only times I actually worried.

tornadocam : Very informative, dude!

Have you been up close to a tornado? Just wondering from your username.

Living here where there are no tornadoes, hurricanes or typhoons, it would be really nice to see one once from a safe distance ofcource. I cant  even imagine what it is like.

tornadocam : You are a storm chaser??? That must be a very um.. energetic job. Though i can tell it's also quite dramatic and dangerous. I have never actually seen a tornado, but over the last 6 or so years, there have been, let's see.... maybe 5 to 7 Tornadoes where I have been. Back in 2010, there were 2 tornadoes on the same day here and school had to be closed the next day because of trees and tombstones.

Well, living in TN I've seen a LOT of tornados. It kinda sucks to be honest, especially when they come at night and it's like 1 AM and suddenly you've got to crowd down in the basement.

Basically, science aside, tornados blow (pun intended).

NVTaks :
We are from the same state. Our state can get it bad because they come at night, our mountains make tornadoes to see, and they are rain wrapped sometimes.
