Kirby is back in this adventure. Here is my take and review on this great and amazing game. Story: 9 The story of the game from the intro and manual goes like this. Above Dreamland is a mirror world. Most of the time the Mirror World is peaceful. However, the Mirror world goes into a state of turmoil. Evil matter has invaded it and threatens to expand into Dreamland. Shadow Kirby escapes to try to get help from Dreamland. Meta Knight one of dream lands finest warriors flies up to protect Dreamland from this new threat. The fine knight is overpowered by a dark Meta Knight. The dark matter attacks the mirror warp zone into 8 pieces and imprisons Meta Knight. Meanwhile Kirby is also attacked by dark matter and is split into 4 Kirby’s that are identical. Kirby and his new friends’ journey into the mirror world to save Dreamland and Meta Knight as well as liberate the Mirror World. Okay I really liked how Hal Labs was trying something new here. The past few Kirby games had the same plot. Dark Matter would usually possess King Dedede and Kirby would have to save the Kingdom of Dreamland in the mean time also liberating King Dedede. This is one of the few Kirby games were King Dedede is not referenced nor does he make an appearance in this game. That was something new to the Kirby games. Kirby’s Dreamland, Kirby’s Adventure, Kirby’s Dreamland 2 and 3 all had the king in it. So Hal Labs made sure to give players a different plot. I also liked the creativity in this plot. The plot introduces us to a new world as well as new characters. I like games that have an original feel to them but get creative with something new to offer. Hal Labs really did well on this game’s plot. Graphics: 10 The graphics in this game were very good. The worlds are nicely done. My favorites are the Castle, Ice and Cove worlds. Those had backgrounds that were just so special. I like how the trees look bright and colorful. The Ice looks shiny which is how Ice is supposed to look. The Cove just has that glow in the background. The other worlds had amazing side effects too such as clear ocean water, glowing stars and erupting volcanoes. The graphics are so good they make the player think they are there. In fact, the graphics just really jump out at you. In addition, to the graphics the controls are also perfect. Kirby’s controls are very smooth not one time does he feel sluggish. The sprints are very good. I have seen good sprints before mostly in Mega Man, Mario and Donkey Kong games. The sprints in this game are up there with those games. The enemies are done nicely their attack powers are also done nicely. Moreover, there are not any lags in this game. I thought there might be a few, but I have played through this game several times and I have found not lagging at all. This game should have set the bar what Game Boy Advanced games are supposed to be like. Also future Kirby games should have this games graphics, sprints and controls. Sound: 10 The sound in this game was also nicely done. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror had some of the best soundtracks in any Kirby game I have played. I really liked the music for the most part it was upbeat, smooth and very relaxing. In fact, all of the worlds have a different theme. But what is so special is the themes fit the worlds nicely. The sounds of the special weapons are also nicely done. Kirby when he has the sword weapon it makes a sound like it is really doing damage by cutting enemies. The bullet power up sounds like an explosion when it makes contact. The ice weapons sound like freezing rain. Also the enemies have their unique sounds depending on what their ability is. Furthermore, there are other sounds too such as unlocking another world, getting another item or defeating a boss are amazing. Since it is a Kirby game who cannot forget the infamous death sound of Kirby. I still find that to be funny. So, this Kirby game had a very good sound too it. I compared this to other Kirby games. The very first game had a tingle to the sound, there is not any tingling in this game. Some of the other Kirby games sound (music) seemed to be out of rhyme a few times. The game that had an awesome sound like this one and rivals it was Kirby’s Adventure. However Kirby’s Adventure was 8 bit and this is at least 32 bit. Addictiveness and Depth: 10 Of all my Kirby games I replay this one the most it is just that good. The game’s unique plot, awesome graphics and sound really add replay here. In addition, there are several items to look for. This game has huge depth. They are several treasure chests to find and I mean a bunch of them. I lost count on how many I have found. In addition, they are also several weapons in this game to try. Sometimes it is fun just to go through the game with a different weapon to see if I can win with that particular weapon. There is one thing that Hal Labs in this game and it really adds depth is different colors of Kirby. Kirby can unlock different colors by finding them. I will admit I have quite a few favorite colors such as Red, Purple, Blue, and turquoise. I like them colors because they represent my sports teams, and my favorite plants. I am also Autistic so I’m attracted to certain colors. Okay back to the game. I find it fun to play through the game with a certain color it makes Kirby look cool and groovy. They are also CD’s to find in this game. The player also must unlock 8 worlds to beat this game. All of the worlds have mazes in them and different pathways so it is going to take a lot of exploring to open all the paths. The worlds are long in this game. Unlike other Kirby games the worlds do not have stages to them. In the past such as in Kirby’s Adventure you would have a world with 6 stages in it. This game does not have that which for me that adds depth. So yeah, the worlds are long in this game but thankfully you can save your progress. To sum it up, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror really shines on depth. Difficulty: 7 If Kirby and the Amazing Mirror has a flaw it’s the difficulty. Now do not get me wrong here this game is difficult. But it is not the most difficult game. There is a secret way to unlock a room that has all the game’s weapons in it. So that kind of makes it easy especially if you get hit and lose your weapon in this game. This game does throw some curve balls at you. There are a lot of traps, pits and enemy placement in this game. Enemy placement is what really gave me the most difficulty in this game. It is so easy to find yourself cornered and surrounded. In addition the enemies in this game are sneaky they will hit you from behind some can even turn to stone and clobber you as you walk by. Also like most Kirby games you have a lot of air enemies that want to knock you down and send you crashing to your doom. However, this game gives you lots of weapons that you can use to get yourself out of jams. Also you can call for backup using your buddies so if you get cornered you can call for help. One thing that also drags the difficulty down just a little bit is you can call warp star. Yes you read that right if you are about to die you can call warp star and it will take you back to safety. It should be noted this does not work if you are falling in pits. So that takes the difficulty down. I was also expecting the final boss to be more of a battle. The final boss he is difficult but I have thought harder bosses in Kirby games. He kind of leaves himself open for attacks. So yeah, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror was difficult but not as difficult as it could have been. It feels like at times the makers of this game are giving you a way to escape a jam if you get caught in one. Still, this game does require creativity to get the items and they are even puzzles to solve in this game so that keeps the difficulty rating solid. Overall: 9.4 What can I say I love this game I got it when it first came out and I have not stopped playing it. I often play this when I want to take a break from Mega Man. I will be honest I thought Kirby’s Adventure was the best Kirby game ever. That was until I picked up this game it completely blew me away. In fact, this game has everything that a great game has. The graphics as I stated are top of the line, the controls are very smooth and the sound is special. Not to mention all the items you can collect especially the different colors. There is a lot going on in this game. I really enjoyed it in case you haven’t noticed The games only problem is sometimes they give you a lot of ways to get out of a jam as I mentioned in my difficulty analysis. I will also say sometimes the weapons seem to be much overpowered. However if this is minor even to guys like me who like challenges. I am going to go on and say this is a shot in the arm that the Kirby Series needed. Now the Kirby series as far as I know was not in danger of fading. I just think players might have gotten tired of seeing King Dedede get taken control of by nightmare (dark Matter) and Kirby having to go liberate him and Dreamland. After a while plots like that where there is little creativity kind of get old. For those that do not know what I am talking about. Compare the plots to Dreamland 2 and 3. Those two plots are the same pretty much nothing new. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror changed that by introducing something new to the series. I will make a bold statement and say that this game introduced Kirby to a new generation of video game players. It also got old school guys like me playing Kirby again. To sum it up I would highly recommend this game you will not be disappointed in it. back in this adventure. Here is my take and review on this great and amazing game.
