TITLE:ZELDA: A LINK BETWEEN TWO WORLDS SYSTEM:NINTENDO 3DS REVIEW BY: GOLGO 14

THE REMBRANDT OF CLASSIC ZELDAS

The creator of Zelda; Shingeru Miyamoto, was inspired by his childhood adventures that involved exploring caves and from this inspiration birthed what would be known as The Legend Of Zelda for the NES. As a gamer, you could feel the inspiration every step of the way, that constant sense of discovery and adventure , that type of experience only offered from the most talented of developers. To say that The Legend Of Zelda is "inspired" is really an understatement. The Legend Of Zelda is quite possibly one of the greatest games ever made.It layed the foundation of what a non linear action rpg should be and further cemented Nintendo's dominance in creating groundbreaking experiences . Then Zelda: The Adventure of Link was released and well... I traded it for Bionic Commando the same week.To me, this was not the Zelda I yearned for.The design was radically altered into something ..shall I say unappealing. It took everything I loved about Zelda, threw it in a blender with Dragon Warrior and Castlevania 2 and voila! bad tasting Zelda smoothie all around! The gameplay was so jarring, I was constantly taken out of the experience and eventually just got frustrated and gave up on it.It wasn't until the release of the Super Nintendo that my faith in Zelda returned. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was launched and once again I got the same feeling I got from The Legend of Zelda on NES and was overjoyed! In fact, it became my favorite Zelda of all time.I truly love all of the 3-D Zelda's but I feel more comfortable playing the classic overhead style. Many years passed and finally my prayers for another "Link to the Past" was answered and I gotta say, after spending many, many hours with Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds the result is no less than pure genius.

GRAPHICS: 10/10 From a visual standpoint, Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds is one beautiful game. The animation and special effects astound me.The use of 3-D gives everything you see a great sense of depth that expertly plays into the design of the moment to moment gameplay. The world and characters I remember so fondly in A Link To The Past have been given fine brush strokes of love and attention with bold color choices that feel alive and fresh bursting with unrivaled charm. In a title where an important gameplay mechanic revolves around turning into art it seems all the more fitting that the graphics are in fact a work of art.To me,this is the new benchmark that all future classic Zelda games are to be measured against and has become my favorite looking 3DS game to date.

MUSIC/SOUND: 10/10  The music and sound design are awe-inspiring! Remixed classic Zelda themes with striking original compositions invoke that magic and wonder every step of the way and will surly cause you to hum along with glee! The instruments are so crystal clear and the variety of them overwhelms you're ears that at times I would die on purpose to hear that music track one more time.Epic, symphonic arrangements sell each boss fight with ferocity and urgency switching to more quiet, elegant structured pieces for the dimly lit caves that are scattered across the land.No matter where you are in this game the mood and tone is never lost on the composer and I'm confident there will be a high demand for this soundtrack. The sound effects are everything you've grown to love about the series. Each character has their own fun little "grumps" or "mumbles"that to me has always been part of the charm that makes all of the characters so lovable and every action you make is punctuated with clarity like the "crackle" sound you're flame rod magic erupts as it roasts an enemy or the "crashing" of giant boulders set to trample Link , all the sound fits exactly where it should.

ADDICTIVENESS/DEPTH: 10/10  From a gameplay standpoint Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds rises above all previous classic style efforts with it's fresh take on creative dungeon design and wonderful new mechanics that make this gamer very happy. The most impressive feature is the ability to become a living painting! It is very easy to do and adds a new layer of complexity to the gameplay. You just press a button whenever you are close to a wall and Presto! Link the Mona Lisa is born! This mechanic will be mandatory in finding all of the hidden or hard to reach places in the overworld and conquering the brilliantly designed dungeons.Additionally there are some new features in case you get stuck like putting on some glasses to see these little "hint" ghosts that are everywhere offering clues for first time adventurers. Finally the gameplay feels more empowering here because close to the beginning you can actually rent all of you're equipment at once which streamlines the experience as you have less back tracking to do more than ever before!Collecting rupies has never been so addicting and carried such meaning because if you save up enough you can eventually purchase the items for good ! There are so many little moments that I don't want to spoil so just know this. This is the most addicting classic style Zelda I have ever played and every moment I spent (and continue to spend) felt so genuine, assembled with thought provoking design and endless fun that I say" Raise you're Master Sword with honor gamers!" because the gameplay/depth has never been better!

STORY:7/10 To me the narrative in a Zelda game has always been like leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for the player wherein you get important plot points that you need then move along. The story in A Link Between Two Worlds is no different and takes place after A Link To The Past that revolves around an evil wizard named Yuga that is trying to bring Ganon back to life and in the process is turning everyone into paintings including(oh no!) Zelda herself. The plot points are told very nicely and integrated well into the game but more importantly the story here understands that as in any classic Zelda game the real story comes from the heart of the player and their journey in between the plot points. Throughout the entire playthrough this gamers heart was always on his sleeve and found his story to be very good indeed! To be blunt, I play Final Fantasy for it's cinematic story telling and play Zelda for the flawless moment to moment gameplay.

DIFFICULTY:7/10  I feel the challenge presented here is for beginner and intermediate gamers.Even though I found the challenge here to be much easier than most of the classics I NEVER found it LESS REWARDING.As usual, the challenge comes from the intricately designed dungeons that in this game are less difficult but to this gamer were actually MORE fun to figure out due to the new mechanics that challenged me to think differently more than ever.Harder doesn't always equate to more fun.

CONCLUSION: The Legend Of Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds though not as challenging as previous efforts has become my favorite classic style Zelda because it offers the most fun I think I've had with Link in many years .It presents fresh ideas that are executed in a way that gives me great hope for future releases. From the bottom of my heart-container, thank you Nintendo for not forgetting us older gamers that prefer the classic style Zelda and for granting a wish I made hoping I could re-visit the warm, fuzzy memories I had with a Link to The Past that in fact, congratulations... you have surpassed them.

OVERALL: 9.4/10                                                   A MODERN MASTERPIECE OF A CLASSIC GAME BRAVO!!!

Nice review dude, it is long, and if impacted with detail. Also I want this game really bad on my Nintendo 3ds. And another thing. If you do have a Nintendo 3ds how about we add each other as friends on there. I am looking for some good companions. Well anyways back to what I was saying is this game is good, and I hear that it is kind of like the original snes game The Legend of Zelda, A link to the past. Well anyways, that game is by far my most favorite Zelda game though. I go a long, and extended history with zelda. Anyways love the review dude, once again keep it up .
