A new Mega Man series started with Mega Man X. Players were introduced to this popular new Mega Man Series. It all started with Mega Man X the first of many X games. I will be doing a review of X Story:8 The story or plot was decent for the first X game. Here is how the story reads from the manual and introduction. Dr. Cain a world known scientists is exploring ruins of an old science lab. Dr. Cain discovers a capsule and opens it. Before that he reads a note. The lab is Dr. Lights Lab. The warning talks about Mega Man X or X as he is called. X has great abilities and unlimited potential. He can think and feel for himself however if he turns on mankind nobody can stop him that is my fear. I have sealed him up with testers as I will not live to see X. Dr. Cain meets X and tries to copy X's design thus Dr. Cain creates what is called reploids. The reploids start turning maverick. The world sets up Maverick Hunters. Dr. Cain creates Sigma who has the latest programming to lead the hunters. However Sigma turns maverick and leads a revolt against the humans. X joins with another hunter named Zero to defeat Sigma. For those that have not played Mega Man X games. Zero was once a maverick and we learn in Mega Man X2 he was created by Dr. Wily with a virus. Sigma is sent to control Zero, but Zero inflicts heavy damage. The virus leaves Zero and fuses with Sigma creating the Sigma Virus. Zero is now a good guy and is the new leader of the Maverick Hunters taking Sigma's place . Okay a lot of details for the first game. But it is the first game so a lot of explanation was needed. Capcom did good here explaining the story. Give players an idea on who the main characters were. The plot is well executed. Now, since I have played Mega Man X2 and Mega Man X3 as well as other games. I gave this story an 8. I just thought the plot in X2 and X3 were better written. However, this is the first game so it was a good plot overall. Graphics: 8 The graphics are very nicely done. The Jung stage, the ice stage, the air force stage and the mining stage were all done nicely. The colors really make the stages come alive. This was the first Mega Man game to have 16 bit graphics. The controls are really nice and so are the sprints. X for the most part is smooth accept in a few areas. The way the buster once upgraded has a nice color to it. I also thought that the sprints of the enemies were also nicely done. However, sometimes the controls can sometimes get a little stiff. Stiff controls are not a huge issue in the game but they are a few spots it just feels sluggish. The part in Sigma stage one is a great example of this. Also a few times when the game gets hectic I do find there is a little lag at times. But I would expect that since this is the very first X game. But to sum it up the graphics were good for the first X game. Sound: 7 The sound is probably average to slightly above average. They are a few memorable tunes here. Sting Chameleons is notable so is Armor Armadillo's music. However compared to X2 and X3, which had very great music. I just find that the music is missing a few beats. It is not bad do not get my wrong just not as good as other X games. The sound the enemies and weapons make are okay. X buster sound is really good because it sounds like a burst of energy. The way the storm weapon sounds makes a player thing it is one of the more powerful weapons in the game. So while Mega Man X did not have the music of X2 and X3 it was not a bad sounding game. Addictiveness and Depth: 7 Okay Mega Man X is a fun game to play. There is some depth here items to collect and power ups to get. However the game does not have that much depth compared to X2 and X3 which had side missions in them. Those two games also had more power ups than X one did. Mega Man X is a medium length game its not really short but not long like the X games that come after it. Considering they are only 8 stages and a few fortress stages kind brings the rating down on this one. However, every stage has an item and a lot of the items require going back to stages so that does add some depth. I find myself going back to X one the least. I guess because I got spoiled to other X games that had huge depth and were very fun to play. But, with that being said X one is a fun game to play and I still play it. Difficulty: 6 Mega Man X suffers from somewhat of a lack of difficulty. X2 and X3 as well as future X games just bury you with their tough spots as well as difficulty. Now, they are some tough spots in Mega Man X and a few of the Mavericks like Sting Chameleon and Armor Armadillo are hard to beat. But some of them are not to bad one the player learns their AI pattern. A lot of the Maverick stages are not bad at all. Now the Sigma Stages can be of a problem such as the first one requires a lot of jumping. It is so easy to fall into the pit. The fortress bosses are also very tough so that is were the difficulty comes in for this game. X2 and X3 were very difficult games the bosses were hard, the fortress stages were also very bad in difficulty wise. Not to mention that in future games they hide the items very well. In X one Capcom did not really hide the items a lot of them are in plain sight. Maybe Capcom wanted the first game to be less difficult so it would not scare away players. So giving that the bosses are not too bad till later in the game. Giving the game a 6 rating was the best I could give. Thankfully, Capcom made future X games more difficult. Overall: 8 Well considering this is the first game that started it all it is actually a good game. Capcom created a good game to get the X series rolling, which they needed too. I like this game despite some of the negative things I said about it. However, as I stated I have gotten spoiled to Mega Man X2 and X3. Those two games were gems. Mega Man X has a good plot and good graphics and overall is decent. Capcom fixed the problems in X2 and X3. But hey Capcom had to get a start somewhere to launch the X series and they did a good job. I would recommend this game to anyone who is new to the X series Story:8 The story or plot was decent for the first X game. Here is how the story reads from the manual and introduction. Nice job on this review man, you broke it down nicely and from there you did a fantastic job of really reviewing this game in detail which is the whole point of a good review the way I see it. Aside from that, it turned out looking very professional and you have a good amount of space in between each category rather than one giant paragraph which is a pain to read. Plus you bolded the criteria at the top and separated everything quite nicely which all contributes to the professional look of this review. Overall nice job on this man, it came out not only detailed, but also organized and to the point. You are really on a roll with these reviews man. Keep up the awesome work man Overall nice job on this man, it came out not only detailed, but also organized and to the point. You are really on a roll with these reviews man.
