Clock Tower is a fantastic point-and-click horror game that keeps you frightened around every turn.  It's the story of an orphan named Jennifer.  She and some of her friends from the orphanage get adopted by the Barrows family.  The Barrows live in a giant, beautiful castle secluded in an almost whimsical forest.  As you can imagine, being adopted by a rich, caring family who live in a forest is probably the dream of any orphan.  This dream, however, is short lived.  Not ten minutes after arriving, things take a very dark and twisted turn.  It's up to Jennifer to face true evil and survive in a truly hellish situation.

Clock Tower is a beautiful game.  Every environment you find yourself in is incredibly detailed and very life-like.  Corridors are brought to life by flowing curtains and nerve-racking lightning strikes, candles and stained glass windows create awesome lighting, and scenes of blood and gore make sure you never feel secure.  Character animations are fluid and very realistic.  You can sense the terror in Jennifer as she scrambles to hide under a bed or uses a weapon in order to narrowly escape with her life.

Sound - 9

Most of the time a horror game is defined by its sound and atmosphere.  That being said, Clock Tower truly sets the bar high.  The game boasts a soundtrack that is perfect in any situation you encounter.  The music really makes you feel that danger can come from anywhere.  The sound effects are top notch, too.  The sound of footsteps, breaking glass, and ear piercing shrieks will keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat.

Addictiveness - 8

The game is a solid 4 to 5 hours long.  It won't take you too long to finis it the first time through.  However, there are multiple different endings to discover.  The choices you make throughout the game will determine which ending you get.  This makes sure you'll come back for more after completing the game because all the endings are very unique and worth the extra time spent to get all of them.

Story - 10

The story is really what makes Clock Tower shine.  It begins by Jennifer, the main character, and some of her friends being adopted by the Barrows family.  They proceed to the Barrows Castle.  This castle is where the Barrows family calls home, and where Jennifer and her friends see their lives taking a turn for the best.  They couldn't have been more wrong.
The game is filled with amazing plot twists, great character development, and many choices that you can make along the way.  You find yourself becoming attached to Jennifer.  Her fear translates directly to the player, too.  You really feel what it's like to be helpless in an unknown place.  You try your best to survive not only to finish the game, but to see the outcome Jennifer faces at the end.

Depth - 9

The game has many nerve racking moments, head scratching puzzles, and tons of exploration that will keep you pressing forward even when you're afraid to.  You fight.  You hide.  You run.  You try your hardest to find some way out the many sticky situations you'll find yourself in while playing.

Difficulty - 7

The game gives you multiple options out of the bad situations you'll find yourself in.  While you'll no doubt yours be scared through a lot of the game, with a little patience and brain power you'll be okay.  The game isn't too hard to finish.  The real difficulty comes from discovering all the different endings.

Overall - 9

In the end, Clock Tower is an awesome game that horror fans will thoroughly enjoy.

golgo 14 :   I've played it.  It's really fun, too.  It's definitely more action oriented than the first two.  That's not a bad thing.  There's still plenty of running and hiding.  Running from Sledgehammer always got my heart pumping!  Sadly, I've never finished the second one...

golgo 14 :   Yes!  I love the PS1 Clock Tower.  He jump-scared me so many times!  His chase theme song is still fresh in my mind.
